  • Based on the fact that parrying lights and deflecting are really hard for some people to do, i decided to combine my knowledge and experience into a 8 min video. I really hope that this helps someone.

    Guys, other 2 tips you can use. First one: its quite obvious, but people underestimate this one a lot. Be consistent in hero picking. When you feel comfortable on your hero and got some mixups trained and used - your brain is not spending too much resources to think about how you operate your hero, so it can provide you more resource for keeping attention on your opponent, remembering his patterns, reacting to smth. Second: you can consistently deflect cheeky enemy, that tends to light from one direction or zone a lot. Try to move all the time in the direction you expect him to attack so all you have to do is just press space button for deflect. Also, it makes it easier to parry attacks from other 2 directions since when you're tunnel-visioning your opponent you're already covered one of them and expect attack from it constantly. For example, you play against tiandi that loves to zone and does dodge light from top all the time. You walk in the direction of his zone and ready to deflect in any time on reaction. You got 2 directions left to keep track and since he is more likely to attack from top - you'll more likely to expect it and parry it. Its like increasing your guessing probability from 33% to basicly 50/50. Choosing between 2 options is much easier, than guess 1 to 3 options.

      @@SoriethRisika Then i think it's just not the time yet. Progress gain always slows down progressively, just keep training and your new mixups will develop by themselves eventually. Also, is that you, who sings there? Watched your vid on your channel.

    Your biggest advices for me are 2 things:
    1. Stop spinning your stick and leave it resting, only move it to the direction of the incoming attack when you need to.
    2. Tunnel Vision, this made me do sick outplays and I didn't know why. Hearing that in your video made me realize why.
    Thank you so much for this video!

    I am on PC, not a noob and have good fps. Your quick video deifnitely brought soemthing to me. The tunnel vision thing and the "try to block first" are good stuff. I can light parry but I lack consistency so even a noob Kensei's light spam is a challenge for me tbh. And my deflects are always accidental, gotta work on that too.

      If its too fast you can click the basic combo. R1 after hit.
      Press heavies. You can see the direction.
      Press light when you want a quick one.
      Is what i do when i cant react.
      Leave a heavy hitstun parry the light.
      Sometimes people just press a light before switching their guard. Itll look alot like you vs the bot

    3:14 I've started using this after Aramusha and Shaman release. I approve to everyone this works. My method is that put your guard at where the fastest attack is according to your preference. For example Lawbringer top light, then keep your guard on Top, this keeps the enemy to attack at only right and left. Keep practicing. You'll get there

    I actually really like for honor, but i used to hate how difficult it was to parry. at first i thought it was just because i was on ps4 but even when i upgraded to ps5 it was still difficult, in training mode i was able to have bursts where i could consistently parry, and even block and then parry or deflect the second hit of vipers strike or retreat or whatever its called like you showed in the intro. but on a wifi connection i could never get a parry without hard reading. i would force myself to hard read and use characters with other consistent defensive options like aramusha, kensei, bp, orochi, etc. I changed the guard angle deadzone to zero degrees. i made sure every time i played i was well hydrated, had gotten exercise earlier that day, was in a good mood, and not drowsy. I put extra rubber pads on my controller that let me grip it more quickly from other ways of holding the controller, and had ribs on it for me to more easily index the direction. i even considered notching a ps4 controller just for for honor. for even more context my reaction speed ranges from 190-235ms (the range is probably so wide bcus my heart is arrhythmic). i eventually found out that the reason why it was so difficult was because i was playing on a full sized modern tv, so the latency was super annoyingly high. basically the takeaway is that ubisoft intentionally balanced the timings of attacks around normal human reaction speeds, and if you cant do these consistently and its not because of indecision or missing the direction (which will naturally go away from game experience) then its probably just your hardware and internet speed

    • @SneakybeakyScrub
      @SneakybeakyScrub Год назад

      to clarify about the vipers retreat part i enabled both regular r1s and vipers retreat on the bot, so it was actually on reaction. if you know theyre gonna do the second one every time its not that hard to parry. still rlly important to wait for it with deflects though bcus if u deflect the r1 she can just follow up with it or she can go into her hidden stance

    Just a little FYI, "Light after 1st attack" does not mean the AI will light immediately after its first attack.
    It means after YOU hit the AI with a light, it will then attack. Its mainly used to check if combo moves are interruptible or if you have frame advantage after a finishing move.

    As someone who hasn't played FH in awhile this video is good, no a great refresher on parries 😄 however I still have some questions if you don't mind
    Basically, I can see the lights coming and I proceed to predict them but it's almost like the light attack is there steps infront of me.
    I remember back in the day there was a lot of talk about milliseconds per second or something I bought a tv monitor years ago that was like 200 milliseconds or something that helped with parrying
    But i assume in this instance your talking about FPS? Would there be a way to get higher fps on console? Or improve speeds? Or are we kinda stuck??
    Cheers and thanks for help in advance 😎👍

    • @fr3shclipz
      @fr3shclipz  Год назад +2

      The 200 millisecond thing is most likely latency, latency is the time between you pressing something and it actually happening. Fps are about how smooth the game runs. Both important. The truth is as a console player, you are at a disadvantage, and there is no possible way to improve your fps past 60. The devs have it locked for console vs pc players getting over 144 fps.
      I'm a rep 280 on console and literally started over because I enjoy the smoother game play on pc. Now I'm a rep 2 working my way back up while trying to not discourage new comers from playing.

    Frame rate matters soo much i feel. I have a ps4 and my friend got a ps5 during last Christmas. We were easily so matched in skill, fights were always soo close. After he got a ps5 he literally could parry just about anything i threw at him (im exaggerating a bit but light parries went from uncommon to quite common). It went from being a even 50/50 to like a 10/90 it felt. However all i have to do to win is pick my pk against him. However then i told him my weakness against valks and how i could never beat one. Safe to say I got pounded that round lol
    Edit: i said this before i watched the video and know that was what it was and yes my assumption was true

But then i realized that the biggest problem is not on my pc's ram, but on the graphic card. So i step back the display in display settings and it finally ran so smooth. Now i know the game looks like absolute shit rn, but i recommend to at least to set the shadow quality to low, this will helps your eye a lot.

    Just predict, you cant possibly react on lights. The less combos a hero has the easier it is to light parry him. ok let me explain, you cannot possibly react on a light because you cant differentiate between a light and a heavy until its too late, so predict that your oponent is going for a light and then parry

      Hey, not being confused with your opponents gaurd and yours will take some getting used to. I dealt with the same thing in the beginning.
      Also characters gaurd change time are all equal. The only thing that affects that is your deadzone or sensitivity. In other words if you feel like lawbringer gaurd change is sluggish, it will be the same for cent. Play with you deadzone settings. Find that sweet spot

    A big point for me... the xbox controller.
    The heavy is on the trigger with the biggest course, if you switch it to the LB... you will react WAY MORE FASTER.
    Because most of the time, when I tried to react to a light, it was always to late because the trigger doesnt take the click in account... but with the small trigger, it works way more better !
    Good luck my guys.
    And fuck hitokiri and valkyrie players.

    How does latency translate to fps? Or better yet how do you check your fps on ps5 if possible? My latency ranges from 10-30 depending my internet (usually bad weather slows it down) and im capable of landing light parries if some one is just super predictable but im still practicing and only just starting to learn deflects.

    • @fr3shclipz
      @fr3shclipz  Год назад

      Latency is how long it takes the ps5 to respond to your controller input. Fps is how smooth the game appears on screen. That would allow you to react better. On ps5 make sure you are on the game in a match(training arena), then go to settings, press "screen and video", "video output", then "video output information ". You will then see the resolution and framrate. The screen you are using also determines your Fps so be aware of that, most tvs can only go to 60. A few can go past that.

    Can you help me get the habit of hitting dodge. I sometimes get nervous when getting slammed up with attacks. So I’ll start to dodge or dodge attack which leads me to getting parried. And sometimes I just press heavy to try parry which gets me parried in return 😅

    • @fr3shclipz
      @fr3shclipz  Год назад

      Getting nervous during being lighted is very common. You have to build confidence. When you throw a heavy to parry your opponent and end up being parried, its showing lack of confidence. You have to learn to feel as if you are in control. The in control feeling comes from out smarting and predicting his next moves or reaction. Making people do what you want them to do makes it easier to counter them. Btw you don't want a habit of dodging. Gaurd breaks will become your opponents best friend. A number one rule. Especially for high level play. Dont develop habits. Be unpredictable. Habits lead to muscle memory. That would get you SMOKED! Lol

    I don't get the difference between block and parry. So you block when u hold at some direction and u block an attack; And you parry when the indicator flashes and you parry it when u put ur mouse over, or you have to dodge in the direction and hold the guard ?

    • @fr3shclipz
      @fr3shclipz  Год назад

      When you block its literally just to have you gaurd to the side the attack is coming from so that you don't get hit. A parry is when the attack is about to touch where your gaurd is and you throw your opponent off balance so that you can get on offense. When you dodge into a incoming attack and end up sliding underneath thier weapon that is called a deflect. That's only accessible to assassins and some hybrids.

    • @fr3shclipz
      @fr3shclipz  Год назад

      To activate a parry, press the heavy attack while guarding the side the attack is coming to right before it connects with your weapon. That will throw your opponent off balance to give you opportunity to get on offense
