This really came at the right time because having self hatred and jealousy at the same time is a wretched combo😭

This video is such a masterpiece. I always feel jealous of artists who are so talented! But I remember that art is supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be a way to express yourselves! On another note, this drawing is absolutely stunning! I love how flowy everything looks

I tend to flip flop between being jealous of other artists- or feeling superior over them. It's something I've been trying to work on- it's not healthy for me or any of my relationships. Also- this drawing is GORGEOUS!!!! I love your lineart 😳

It’s ironic that they’re talking about feeling bad about their art sometimes and that you shouldn’t compare yours to others when they’re literally making a bloody Van Gogh in the background wtf
(Also this is a CRIMINALLY underrated channel, I’ve just binged literally every video lmao)

Lmao that's literally the point, even "good" artists get jealous sometimes bc people always want what they don't have haha

Honestly, I used to compare myself to people but overtime I’ve learned to just… stop, I guess. It’s just not worth it, and it makes the whole thing less enjoyable. Theres also bigger things to worry about. So I’ve learned to just stay in my small lil isolated corner of the internet and be happy with what I’ve got.

Ah yeah this kind of stuff is tough... I too can be envious, especially see people do absolutely amazing things.
It's not even about their art itself. I always prefer to rather take an element I like most in art then try and work it into my own style. Eg. A lot of artist I like use bolder lines which work for a cartoony style that I like! Becoming someone else when it comes to art and not trying out styles or mediums that I am interested in can really be a downer. It's like, "Your art is so cool but I KNOW for sure the amount of effort will be too draining for me if I were to try it."
The thing for me when it comes to artist envy I get jealous of their life, their time, how often they work on what they love where I'm just doing stuff like studying for a job on some other thing I only care about because I want to make a living and the work environment suits me. They have to do what they LOVE! They also have cooler setups, use these amazing programs and talk about how much they love their tablets or CSP. All that kinda stuff too.
But then I realize that everyone is of different ages, different lifestyles etc. etc. and I should not just see them as these godlike machines making quality work all the time. They have work, they have life problems, they have things that get in the way of what they want to do and so on. As for what they have in terms of software and hardware, I just accept my life as it is and that I need patience in the end to actually afford it.
In the end I definitely do not let it become passive-aggressive comments and rather try to make jokes of it at best with all of these in mind. I'm proud of what people do!
Hope my ramble expressing my envies make a little sense. Just felt the need to do it. Congrats on the sponsor too!

Preaaach! There are so many things that factor into a person's work & no one should feel the need to compare. Be inspired, yes, but never feel like we are less than or inferior.

I really like this video! I love how you both took a deep dive into where jealousy comes from, as well as exercises to help get through it and instead focus on improving as an artist.
I personally think because of the way social media is, where everything has numbers attached to it and you're constantly seeing everyone else's art in an infinite scroll, it's almost designed for everyone to compare themselves to each other and become jealous/feel like they're "behind"
It can be easy to feel like something you've made isn't as "successful" or doesn't mean as much if it doesn't hit a certain number, so I appreciate that you said success in art should be defined by how happy it makes you, that's probably the best mindset to go into art with!

      Thank you!
Social media is fr the worst culprit for making artists feel bad about what they do. The amount of ppl i think have gorgeous pieces or seem rly put together saying they wish they were different is baffling :c

When I get those feelings and when trying to analyze an artists work fails, I find it helps me to fall back to the basics: compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today. Even on off days I can still see the improvement, and maybe remember something cool I tried a while back and forgot.

One thing I did was collect works from a bunch of artists I like and put them in one folder, not separating them. Not only does it give me inspiration but seeing all the different styles side by side makes me feel less jealous

this video feels like such a callout to me. and thats a good thing because it indicates i really needed this
thank you for posting. ive recently started to struggle a lot with jealousy. having a now ex friend (bc i dove too deep into the trauma dumping rabbit hole. im sorry) because that friend was so popular
their posts always did so well. their account was growing, and lots of artists with very large followings always shared their art. its like a third of the people following them liked their stuff. and it always made me feel jealous because i would never believe anyone who said I'll be successful too. because i never felt like i would
but thank you for uploading this. i hope I get the help i need for all of this

    Omg a sponsor! Congratulations!
And thank you for talking about jealousy in a neutral light! I agree, it's really not something to feel bad about unless we're doing/saying something rude or mean as a result of our jealousy.
Speaking of saying things, artists who talk about being jealous abt others' art seem to often get responses along the lines of "but your art is absolutely stunning, there's no reason for you to be jealous!" Tbh, I feel like I usually end up responding that way too, but watching this video (beautiful art btw!) I realized it could also be rooted partly from jealousy. I can't imagine that these artists I look up to so much also have artists they are jealous of, but in the end that just causes me to sort of deny them of their right to feel jealous, if that makes sense (makes me feel even worse, ugh). Realizing that gave me the opportunity to think of more positive ways to encourage/support artists I admire who feel bad about their art, so thank you so much again!

This is a really good thing to keep in mind, thanks for bringing it up! It can definitely trip ppl up remembering that anyone can have low days, and reminding them of what they already have can just make them feel guilty or ungrateful. Everyone should be allowed to have the space to experience these feelings & work through them in order to grow ^^

I get really jealous when I see younger/around my age artists who are better than me at art, especially since I have a hard time with animating/creating videos due to my ADHD and executive dysfunction. Same goes for not improving as fast enough as my friends or the aforementioned artists, especially when it comes to humans and different angles. I never really had a lot of the opportunities that other creators my age/younger than me when it came to art, with having a HORRID art teacher when I was in grade school who hated me, among other things.. I still get very jealous by artists being boosted/getting better and whatnot on twitter, youtube, discord, etc.
While im floundering trying my best to be seen when others are flourishing; partially because the algorithm also freakin hates me I guess, but also because my jealousy can get really unchecked and I just stew in frustration and sadness. I WISH I could talk about my characters and getting better at my art and animation n actually getting money for my artwork, but alas. I'm just unlucky, I guess.
Sometimes I do get bad vibes from certain artists and they usually end up being right which is... kind of vindicating in a way? That a person who I was jealous of, and was envious of their success but also felt this weird vibe from them, and finding out this person was fucking awful? It was... yeah. But it's not an excuse for being jealous or whatnot.
I still struggle to get commissions, and all the other stuff I mentioned, but I kinda accepted that fact that I'm unlucky. I have all the higher chances of the jealousy thing too, being autistic, and having adhd, depression and anxiety.
    Sorry for my ramblings ahjfsbashbfhs

Jealousy is very rare for me I noticed.
I think it's mostly because, while other artists are by far better than me, none of them express what I desire to show or in the way I want to show it.

I know this comment is extremely late but what I like to do when I’m feeling jealous about my art is that I think about the two cakes meme. You might compare your art to another artist and think “damn, that cake is better than mine” but when the audience looks at it they don’t think about one cake being better than the other, they’re just happy there’s 2 cakes! It works wonders for me

“I wish I can draw like you, my art is terrible and can only draw stick figures 😭😭😭”
My 1st Grade self: *”AM I A JOKE TO YOU?”*
I actually made a reboot of one of my oldest OCs due to jealousy of another person’s OC (with a crappy quality backstory) having popularity due to being featured in a LOT of commissions and I got salty for YEARS, so I vowed to myself that if I can’t have commissions of my character, then I’ll do my art with it. And trust me, rebooting my character in a drastic way was one of the toughest choices I’ve made for an OC, but it was one of the best that I’ve done. My OC, Varuna, is now a much better character than her “Varuu” counterparts. I made better OCs designs and a LOT more OCs with better names in the Zelda and MHA universe and not just the Beyblade universe, and I thank my blue and white emotional trainwreck of an OC for it.

So, there’s this one person I’m jealous of, but I don’t think his art is better than mine. I’m just salty that when he shares it, it gets all the attention and people are like- “WOW, that’s amazing, you actually took the time to learn how to improve, blah blah blah,” but when I share mine, no-one cares. Guess what? I ALSO took the time to learn how to improve. I used to suck at digital art. Someone else is getting all the credit for the same f’ing thing as me. Even though I’m mad, I haven’t taken it out on this person.
