Truly a man of the people. I steam my brats in beer and then finish on the griddle for the nice brown color. Add peppers and onions cooked in butter and Bertman’s mustard. Any Johnsonville is good but original is best.
You can't beat a good brat! This gave me inspiration for my next family cook out. Gonna get a bunch of different brats, bun them, cut 'em in to smaller sections and have a bunch of various toppings and condiments. Thanks Johnny.
I do appreciate you taking one for the team and eating those Brats and ridding the world of a few beers. I always remind my wife that those beers in the fridge aren’t going to drink themselves. Someone has to step up.
Living in Wisconsin, I've never had a brat that wasn't boiled in beer first. Those brat buns are way better than a regular hot dog bun. Great comparison video as always.
Good video Johnny ! Just got back from a rifle match , I cooked 30 brats for 15 people at supper out on the prairie in Montana .Italian style my friend .. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
I saw that tab twist on the beer. When I lived with my buddies years ago, we did that to know who’s beer was who’s. I still turn mine to the left 15 years later. I want to try the queso. Just found hatch green chili at the store yesterday.
I haven’t watched the video yet, I just paused at 00:16. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the winner is the cheddar bacon version. I hope I’m not wrong because it will be the first time this century for that to happen! 😁Let’s roll!!! EDIT: 🥳🍻 By the way, are you day drinking and eating brats during the work week? I didn’t see a soul outside in their yard at any point in the video. If so, you’re living my dream! 💪🏻🇺🇸
Johnny, if you can find them, Johnsonville makes one called The Firecracker. It’s spicy and hands down my favorite. I think they only do them around the 4th of July so you may find them soon, they’re awesome! I’ll have to try the Queso, that sounds good too. Great job as always man.
Those are my favorite. I also like it taken out of the casing and grilled over charcoal. It gets really crispy and charred. On a bun with mustard, so good
I just bought the johnsonville grill plate. Its 24.82 with shipping. Thanks Caleb6221. I love these channels where people share cooking tips. And NO, you cannot eat a brat without onions and mustard. I think it might be illegal in some states to eat a brat plain. My ruler/kroger grocery store doesnt carry aunt millies or i would buy those buns. They look good!
The sacrifices you make for us are truly touching. I don’t know how you do it. I hope your wife truly appreciates you. On a side note, at the start of the video, I thought the background music was one of my grandkids’ toys randomly going off and I’m the only one home. I started and stopped the video twice before it dawned on me it’s the background music. 😂😂😂. Growing old is killing me.
The music was fine. It was my ears and mind not working together. 😄 Take care. I appreciate all the videos. You have taught me a lot and you are still teaching me. Thank you.
Johnny I think the best thing is sauerkraut and mustard when cooking Bratz just fry the sauerkraut for a bit and of course with a bit of beer on it it is always a crowd-pleaser because the vinegar won't give you acid reflux
Nice video, but you made me hungry again, so I just went out and bought some Johnsonville beer brats. I made them with beer and onions, and they are delicious. I must say I've never had the other brats, so I need to do that as well.
Thank you Johnny for making this video for the people. After watching this we invited a few friends over next weekend and will be doing some brats on the grill. I’m a simmer in beer and then grill them up nice and brown and add onions and peppers to serve with brown mustard on the side. Great video as always!!!
I’m a little different, I grill em’ first, then into a beer/Milwaukee Brewers stadium sauce bath with onions and peppers in it. I keep it on the grill, but don’t let it boil.
brats go in the beer the night before in a serving tin then the next day whole tin on the griddle - after a majority of the beer has evaporated add a jar or two of sauerkraut - about 10-20 minutes before you're ready to serve drop the brats on the griddle to brown them up and some of the kraut if you'd like....
Thanks for saving me from having to eat 5 brats…wait a minute! Great comparison video! Maybe for the next installment in your little “Sausage fest” series, you could compare the various ways of cooking brats. Grilled, simmered in beer before/after grilling, griddled etc… Also you could throw a smoked one into the mix. Hope you don’t mind suggestions for content. For me, it’s plain/original grilled over charcoal served with pickled red onions and mustard.
Usually, as I'm drinkin/testing "Cold" beers, I boil them in beer, then griddled or grilled, griddled onions, mayo on buns toasted on griddle, thick sharp melted cheddar, special mustard, sometimes krauted, just depends on my effort/mood/hunger. Johnsonville makes great Brats!! Johnny makes Great Vids!!! I might try some Bell Peppers next time. Heck maybe some crispy dill slices......??? Who knows?? Griddles are Great!! Thanx Johnny!! I'll order a coupla koozies when you decide to offer them!!!
My opinion is that the original is the best. Cheese (as well as bacon and citrus flavors) belongs on top of the brat, not inside. And tacos have their own place in life. Another great video, Johnny!
Thanks for your unwavering commitment to the people! I've never done the brats in beer. I'd cry too much wasting the beer! 😅 Well done on another great video, Johnny! 🍺🍺 Cheers!
If I may be so bold to make a suggestion... When you make these comparison videos, you should have a trophy at the end and award it to the winner. The base most definitely should be a beer can. Another great video that's relevant to your subscribers Johnny! Thank you.
I layer onions & brats in a Dutch oven, then cover with beer and simmer. Don't really keep track of the time. Throw on the grill and make them nice and charred. I'm a purist and like the original. To eat: RAW onion and mayo...yummmm
Johnny, I didn’t ever realize Johnsonville had that many different flavors of brats. It seems like my taster never actually detects the descriptions. I am always trying new flavors of beers, especially ipas. I read the label buy rarely do I taste what the description says. Oh well, this was another fun video that I really enjoyed. Keep griddlin, Johnny❤️😂❤️
Sent to fast ( again ) PS at 70 years old I remember riding my bike to the local store in New York back in 1967 to buy the Beatles Sgt. Pepper album ... Yes I was a kid back then . So gotta say I like your shirt !!
Not tried a lot of them but my favorite is the original. Yellow mustard and kraut are the way I eat them. Work at an Ace Hardware. Anytime someone buys a griddle I recommend your channel. You are the best!
I love brats boiled in beer for 10-15 minutes before tossing on the grill or griddle. I also add a splash of beer in my onions/peppers. I also do some sauerkraut (with beer of course). Great video. Guess I thawing out some brats for dinner🤔
Just remember you can’t spell USA without sausage! Probably said it before, but Johnsonville had a promo with that, where if you bought so many you could get a shirt that said You can’t spell USA without sausage. If only they offered free briefs that had that printed on the front, I would have ordered a pair. ;-) LOL
That's taking one for the team! Going to try those buns. Meijer carries that brand. I know you toast your buns, didn't need to for this video. Thanks again, Cheers
Thanks for stepping up and taking one for the team! I will need to look for the Cheddar Bacon one here. Is it bad that I like my brat with a slice of American cheese laid in the bun under the brat with spicy brown mustard and kraut if I have any? Tastes good to me so I guess that's what matters! I checked and Millie's isn't available in my area. Too bad because those buns look perfect!
Hurrah for Johnny, taking one for the team. It was hard to know you would have to drink beer and eat brats for this video lol. I love Johnsonville but there is a local meat market that has the best I’ve ever had. I didn’t know Aunt Millies got together with Johnsonville to make those buns, I will have to look for them.
I just looked it up. I have never seen that before in my life, wow. Is it cast iron? Thats is a great idea by them. It would probably be great for camping. I wonder how many they sell bc $16 isn't a bad price at all.
Yeah, it works perfect for camping! I use it with my blackstone at home and camping. I work for Johnsonville and they sell them online or at the Johnsonville Marketplace edit.. I enjoy the videos. I've learned quite a bit, thanks!
Tough, tough choice. But if I could only have 1, it is the Queso. I love those with grilled onions And pico de gallo with a side of guacamole. And stuffed jalapenos when I'm feeling real ambitious...
Taking one for the team! Love brats, I actually grind my own sausage and brat seasoning and sometimes case but lately I've left them in burger style. There's a great sausage mix company I use if you're interested let me know, they have an awesome garlic onion and a German brat seasoning. Surprised you didn't add peppers.. good video my freind !
cook the brats a couple min. per side for a little color. not fully cooked. in a pan beer lightly caramelized onions garlic add brats simmer until the brats are fully cooked to 155F. then enjoy on a bun with mustard and lightly caramelized onions. dribble a little of the beer over the bun for flavor too. then drink an ice cold beer to wash it all down.
Now thats what I am talking about...these are the types of reviews I think u should do. Do one of which is the best melting cheese on a burger...which frozen burger is best...so on and so forth
I've only tried original and beer. I think those are the only 2 varities that I've seen at the grocery store. I prefer the beer over the original. I just grill them over indirect heat on the grill.
Don’t kid yourself. You’re a pro now. Professionally fucking up and covering up. Like any pro musician. The sounds you cook are griddle to my ears. Don’t lose the spirit of Julia!
Bratwurst 8s like the chicken of ground meat. Its real flavor is the spices, meat, and fat that make it up. Its logical that the strongest EXTRA flavors make a more tasty brat. Ban & cheddar #1. Queso #2. OG #3. Liquid foavored brats tied for #5 (because liquid infused in sausage indirectly washes away the natural fat flavorings of the base brat).
Had you done this from Wisconsin, then we know it woould have been a cook tor the joy ot beer & brats. S8nce youre not located there, we know this is for the people.
I wouldn't say which one is the worst...Johnsonville probably does not want to hear that... so you stay on their good side...I would just rank from 1 to 5...

Probably being a sausage snob, but I lived in Germany for several years. And calling Johnsonville sausages brats is just blasphemy. Are they good sausages, yes, but they taste nothing like a real German bratwurst, not even close. Even American made “German style” bratwurst made in delis are better and closer to the real thing.
Truly a man of the people. I steam my brats in beer and then finish on the griddle for the nice brown color. Add peppers and onions cooked in butter and Bertman’s mustard. Any Johnsonville is good but original is best.
This is also how I do mine
You can't beat a good brat! This gave me inspiration for my next family cook out. Gonna get a bunch of different brats, bun them, cut 'em in to smaller sections and have a bunch of various toppings and condiments. Thanks Johnny.

Wisconsinite here as well. We get bakery buns and slice them from the top. They don't fall apart.
Beer Brats. Two of my favorite food groups in one convenient package.
I have a new moniker for Johnny..... 'America's Neighbor'! Who wouldn't want this guy living next door! Another great video Johnny, keep'em coming!!
Thanks Kevin!
Good video Johnny ! Just got back from a rifle match , I cooked 30 brats for 15 people at supper out on the prairie in Montana .Italian style my friend .. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
Living in Wisconsin I boil in Miller beer and onions
I saw that tab twist on the beer. When I lived with my buddies years ago, we did that to know who’s beer was who’s. I still turn mine to the left 15 years later. I want to try the queso. Just found hatch green chili at the store yesterday.
Lol ya that's why I do it. It was a house of 7 guys in college. Can't shake the habit, even when I'm home by myself.
I haven’t watched the video yet, I just paused at 00:16. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the winner is the cheddar bacon version. I hope I’m not wrong because it will be the first time this century for that to happen! 😁Let’s roll!!!

You nailed it!!!! It was around 3 on a Friday so I don't know if it was full day drinking. But yes I am living the dream and can't believe it.
Thanks for your sacrifice. lol. I like johnsonville brats. But I’m a fan of the white brats. Kahn’s brand as I recall growing up in sw Ohio.
Johnny, if you can find them, Johnsonville makes one called The Firecracker. It’s spicy and hands down my favorite. I think they only do them around the 4th of July so you may find them soon, they’re awesome! I’ll have to try the Queso, that sounds good too. Great job as always man.
Someone else mentioned those. I can not believe they weren't at my store. I'm definitely buying them.
Those are my favorite. I also like it taken out of the casing and grilled over charcoal. It gets really crispy and charred. On a bun with mustard, so good

Ya isn't that grill plate cool, I had no idea that even existed. I need to get on and ado a review.
Now I'm wanting brats before breakfast lol. Great live last night
Thanks Randall.
The sacrifices you make for us are truly touching. I don’t know how you do it. I hope your wife truly appreciates you.

The music was fine. It was my ears and mind not working together. 😄 Take care. I appreciate all the videos. You have taught me a lot and you are still teaching me. Thank you.
I have never had a brat! I love Johnsonville Italian sausage!!!

Appreciate the sacrifice brother!
You're welcome, not all heros wear capes 😂😄😂. Seriously though thank you for watching.
cheddar jalapeno is my new favorite
Nice video, but you made me hungry again, so I just went out and bought some Johnsonville beer brats. I made them with beer and onions, and they are delicious. I must say I've never had the other brats, so I need to do that as well.
For a while, Johnsonville had the "firecracker " brats that were sooo good, but I haven't seen them for a couple of years. They were nice and spicy.
A lot of people mentioned those but I didn't see them in my store either. They must o my put them out in certain areas. I really want to try them.
Thank you Johnny for making this video for the people. After watching this we invited a few friends over next weekend and will be doing some brats on the grill. I’m a simmer in beer and then grill them up nice and brown and add onions and peppers to serve with brown mustard on the side. Great video as always!!!
Usually go with original but also like the Johnsonville Tailgator Cheddar & beer. Think I'm going to have to try the Bacon and Cheddar now.
Bygumby, I'm gunna try the Johnny Brew-net/Johnsonville Brat Challenge myself!!!!! Great idea!! It's wonderful your name has "Brew" in it.

Ya it's hard to beat original
Beer and onion bath before trowing them on the grill or griddle, but I prefer beer brats, if doing cheddar jalapeño just direct grill or griddle
Thanks for your unwavering commitment to the people! I've never done the brats in beer. I'd cry too much wasting the beer! 😅 Well done on another great video, Johnny! 🍺🍺 Cheers!
Ya it's hard to waste that beer 😞

lol that's a fantastic idea Mike!
A few years ago A&W restaurants used to sell Johnsonville Backyard brats. They were the best! Unfortunately, they were never sold in stores.
I never had one of those but man I wish I could try one.
I layer onions & brats in a Dutch oven, then cover with beer and simmer. Don't really keep track of the time. Throw on the grill and make them nice and charred. I'm a purist and like the original.

I have queso and firecracker in the fridge right now that needs cooked up. My favorite is the Irish O'Garlic
A man of the people!
Thank you sir!
I take my brats with mustard or plain. I will let the brats marinate in beer for a while then cook them on the griddle or in the ninja grill.
Sent to fast ( again ) PS at 70 years old I remember riding my bike to the local store in New York back in 1967 to buy the Beatles Sgt. Pepper album ... Yes I was a kid back then . So gotta say I like your shirt !!

Thank you so much Tommy! Which Ace hardware are you at? Is it in Ohio? Also I totally forgot about kraut 🤦♂️
Local franchise out of WV with a store in southern Ohio (Protorville) Kenny Queen Ace Hardware.
I love brats boiled in beer for 10-15 minutes before tossing on the grill or griddle. I also add a splash of beer in my onions/peppers. I also do some sauerkraut (with beer of course). Great video. Guess I thawing out some brats for dinner🤔
Man I can't believe I forgot kraut in this video. I think I'm going to have to do another taste test, I like Cleveland kraut a lot.
Great video Sir I actually tried Brats on Father’s Day weekend and I agree you can’t go wrong with Johnsonville Brats !!
Just remember you can’t spell USA without sausage!

Hey Johnny! A little inside baseball... check out the Johnsonville Grill Plate. Perfect cook on a griddle every time

You're welcome MIke and thank you for watching them.
Glad you’re getting sponsors
Thanks Tony!
Why I got the halo griddle cook with the lid down brat cook great on it !
Nice!
You’re a Great Showman Johnny ……
Direct placement Mustard and Onion to the Chomper 🎉
Thanks for making my lunch menu :-) Great video
cook the brats a couple min. per side for a little color. not fully cooked. in a pan beer lightly caramelized onions garlic add brats simmer until the brats are fully cooked to 155F. then enjoy on a bun with mustard and lightly caramelized onions. dribble a little of the beer over the bun for flavor too. then drink an ice cold beer to wash it all down.
Queso for the win
Thanx for your sacrifice Johnny!!!!

Those are great ideas.
Great video. Thanks!
Way to take one for the team. Love it.
🤣
But do you remember the time we both used our hands together to stuff hot Italian brats together? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Great Video!😂 Keep them coming!👍
Johnny! Have you seen the new Camp Chef Gridiron 36 griddle yet? Makes me want to swap out my missed ftg600.
Ya they look pretty sweet.
I've only tried original and beer. I think those are the only 2 varities that I've seen at the grocery store. I prefer the beer over the original. I just grill them over indirect heat on the grill.
Love this recipes might have to try this in my videos can mention your channel if thats ok
Yes of course you can. Thank you for stopping by. I checked out some of your videos and love them.

Original is the best. I can add goodies to make my sandwich taste the way I like.
OOOooooooooooooo my, loooook at that!!!!!! Yumsterific!!!!!
The Kirkland brats at Costco are really good as well. They are just a plain brat… nothing gimmicky
I think the Kroger brand of brats is better tasting than the Johnsonville and less expensive
Thanks for taking one for the team, Johnny lol
😁
Thank you for sacrificing for us. Please keep up the good work 😅
😂😂😂I do what I can!
Thank you for your sacrifice
You're welcome Mike. 😁😁
Cheddar bacon out of nowhere! Cinderella story!!
OMG, I thought I put on The Joey Chestnut channel. LOL where’s the water to soak the buns?
🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't say which one is the worst...Johnsonville probably does not want to hear that... so you stay on their good side...I would just rank from 1 to 5...
i guess next time write on paper the order of the brat flavors as you pull them out and keep in that order throughout the cook and pull, then you dont have to worry about flags (plus itll keep the juices in)
None get usinger’s brats instead. So much better
Thank you for suffering through that taste test for us. It looked brutal. lol
😁😁😁 your very welcome. Someone had to do it!
just griddlin' a triple listening to this bob ross style relaxing video. Hope you are gettin paid honkey 👍🍺
Firecracker
I didn't see those at my store but saw them on the website afterwards when I was doing research. I need to try those now.
Zweigle White Hots, Rochester, NY. Mic drop.
Great vid but Zweigle loyalists just smile when others expound on their best brats.
🙄😬
I'll definetly give them a try if I find them.
Original is the only way to go.
I steam mine in beer and then grill.
Bacon makes everything taste better
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't want to either.
,😁
You should always cook with beer. You can even put it in the dish. 😉
😁😁😁😁🍻🍻🍻

It’s a trick question because none of the Johnsonville brats are anything near the real thing.
You don't want to drink beer and eat brats all day? SERIOUSLY, WHO ARE YOU???? 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
I appreciate you "not" beer boiling them for science.........Well sorta.
