"Dont associate stress with the things that are fun in your life." AMEN.
I've had my 2016 GTI for some time. Bone stock still. I love love love it as it is. I always get an itch for wanting to do some basic mods (rims, summer tires, tune, coilovers), but ultimately I have some financial goals that don't align with dumping more money into it. This is a great video because it highlights the strengths of the car, while admitting that you can get so much more out of it, if you'd like. In my opinion, in stock form, it is a great all around daily driver, with a little spice. Great video!

MK7.5 6mt owner here, also had a MK5 6mt. I agree with most of your thoughts, but if you drove a 6MT I think you would be more positive about the performance. Yes, this is no super hatch, yes, it is underpowered, is it fun? Hell yeah man! Do I have to row the gears more to stay in the power band on back roads? Of course I do, but that is what makes this car fun. Can I get a Stage 1 tune? yeah, will I no. The car is fine the way it is for me with the exception of the exhaust note, and that will be changing with a AWE track back. All in all a GTI is a culture, a car for enthusiasts who want performance yet want practicality. I am 50 and I do agree with how this car transcends generations based on my experience of meeting younger and older then me folks who have one or have had one and we just talk. about the cars.

I'm currently looking at getting an mk7.5 GTI as my new daily and am excited to upgrade to something faster that I can modify and tune over time. The excitement about the car is the potential. It has the potential to make a lot of power with only a couple stuff. It has the potential to look and feel good. With high power and a good tune, tires, and an LSD it will perform well. Also, it offers a lot for the money you pay.

as someone that uses their GTI for commuting 95% of the time this car is perfect. Its comfortable, has a great sound system and a easy shifting manual. I know there are more fun cars out there like Veloster N. But those cars look and feel like shit boxes. I can enjoy the GTI more of the time. For majority of the people I would think that the car would be used mostly stuck in traffic also.

    • @gooeykev
      @gooeykev 2 года назад

This is actually very true. The Veloster N might seem cooler to look at and seem better, but it isn’t. I test drove one recently and it was kinda disappointing idk if it’s because the previous owner was harsh on it or what, but the brakes seemed like the were corroded already and was only at 8k miles. Keep in mind I do live in Alaska as well so perhaps that could be why, but I don’t think a new car should feel like that. It’s also hard to see out of the rear view window.

I’m 65 with a ‘21 GTI S; have owned just about very fast car from ‘72 to current. For calibration sake one of my motorcycles is a Kawasaki ZX14, I raced cars and motorcycles (street and motocross) successfully. I agree, for the most part, with your GTI overview. However the GTI is a momentum car, not a dragster; having said that it actually quarters with the same ET and a bit higher terminal speed than my ‘70.5 Z28 LT-1 Camaro with an M22 rock crusher 4 Speed. Go figure... I can’t possibly know your driving capabilities nor you mine, but, I assure you were I to take you, or most any enthusiast for and all out run, street or track, the last thing most would say post ride (especially on the street) is “that car needs more power”. Perhaps they’d complain of the plaid seat material ingested by their sphincter, a well driven GTI can do that. Depending on how you use it it might not have as much power as you want (who would argue that, I’ve modified my ZX14 for more power), but far more than needed for sane street work for the vast majority of owners. Want and need are two completely different things of course. The GTI only needs light wheels, sticky performance tires, and maybe better brake pads (~2.7K) to induce said pucker factor. So the GTI is a truly balanced street performance car design for those who understand the goodness baked in over a many years of continuous, well researched, refinement; there is a bit of 911 in its genes. I’d suggest for those who measure a cars worth by pull victories buy any of the wonderful super charged muscle cars, leaving the GTI’s to those desiring a complete, and balanced, highly capable all around enjoyable package. A bit of a MVP. Thanks for sharing an entertaining video and continued success with your channel. Subscribed. Ciao.

I had a 08 MS3 - with only an intake and 128K on the odometer, it felt faster than my 16 Golf R right after I bought it in late 2015. Fortunately I was able to rectify that with an APR Stage 1 two weeks after taking delivery of my Golf R. That was an instant cure for my buyer's remorse. Now with an APR Stage 2, the car is now the fastest car I have ever owned or driven.

Just picked up a 2021 a couple weeks ago. Just subbed for some upgrade tips👀 love my stock GTI coming from a MK6 TDI hatch. Traded massive torque for a more sporty feel and better upgrade abilities.
Do you have any issues with warranties with your upgrades?

My stock MK6 GTI is plenty fast for me! Straight line speed doesn't matter to me. It's carving up a twisty mountain road that I enjoy! Drive mode should be called "bog" mode. I drive in manual mode most the time because I like the engine to rev up when I'm getting up to speed and once I'm just cruising along I put it in high gear to let it get max MPG.

I did stage 2 and it’s faster than my friends stage 1 mk 6 gti in straight line 😂 with car seat in back for 1/2 the price

the 1st time you drive a GTI...should be with a Manual...just saying...my 1st manual was a Mazda protege5 and when I 1st drove a gti I was impressed...i don't really get the whole love for dsg unless u get the dsg tune to match..then its a blast

I got mine a month ago , has intake, turbo inlet and TCR axle back, most likely getting a DP next month and tune or jb4. Probably going jb4 to try and save the warranty lol I only have 2500 miles on the thing

Which would you pick; a 2020 STi or a GTI? I am between the two and a camaro SS. At least the GTI gets pretty dang good MPG and they are quicker than an STI. Really it takes a lot of mods on an STI to keep up with a GTI with lesser mods. Plus the EJs from everything I am reading seems to be very unreliable. I would love an STI but I hate reading the posts every day on FB that someone blew up their STI. Granted the one I am looking at has the stock powertrain warranty left for 4 years and 35,000 more miles, but it would greatly suck if it blew and I was down for a while. I do have an F150 and Jeep wrangler, but that is back at home and not here with me at graduate school (well I can't have two vehicles at one time). I take very good care of my cars but I do drive them pretty hard at times.

only mods you really need is a stage 2 and a Downpipe. Prolly an intercooler too if you really wanted. These cars max out at 350hp for the stock turbo. No point in spending a ton of money on an exhaust, intake, etc... all these manufacturers want now a days is money so of course they are gonna try to sell you mods that you don’t even need.

To your knowledge Cameron is there anything you can do to focus SE. It's treating me well so far I've had it for a year and a 1/2. I know your audiences more favourable to Turbo charge but what about naturally aspirated engines. And what I've seen on mountains website as they have stuff you could buy for a duratec HE but it's not much but I want to know from you what you think whether you do a comment or separate video. Thank you for your time buddy

I love my Focus ST but when it comes to 5 hours or 6 hours in the car, it is not comfortable. Going to the beach a few hours away or to the mountains for snowboarding it is fine but anything past that 5 hour mark..the seats just start to get to you, your legs get tired, your back is ready for a break. Like I said just my .02... super excited for this build series

a easy and quick way to make some more power without touching anything is the ecu tune. u can get a easy 20hp from a stage 1 without doing any other nodding or damaging the engine at all

Payed my CTR off and didn’t enjoy the fact not having a car payment because I was spending 1400 a month on parts payments, as soon as I payed it off boom my dumb self started another order.
