My wife is the same. I started researching the matter and it turns out most women have no soul. That "cold" they feel is just "evil"

Good idea to air the house and beds if there's less damp moisture in the house the warmer it feels and the cheaper to heat or get dehumidifier.

Just borrowed an IR camera (from Cambridge Carbon Footprint) and discovered just how good 1900s solid brick walls are at losing heat! External wall insulation looks the way to go!

THE DIY draft excluder that you made. You are forcing more heat out into the room instead of going up the chimney Sir ?? The hot water tank insulation you used is 4 layers that cover the tank ?? HOW much did you save with your upgrade that you showed Sir ?? Thanks fella. I will start on my place this week.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video.
It stops warm air escaping up and out the chimney as seen with the thermal imaging camera. It's still quite a cold room but it appears to be helping.

Could you do a video showing how quickly the heat leaves a room from an open door? For example, warm your living room up and then open the door and film how quickly it empties out, from inside and outside of the room. Ive been trying to find a video of it but no luck so far. Would be helpful to prove a point about keeping doors closed.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video.
I don't have the FLIR camera anymore. I think trying to objectively measure that may be difficult but certainly from looking at the data on my Tado thermostats it seems to help maintain the temperatures in heated rooms.

I find you don't loose much heat having a window open a bit as long as the door to the room is shut I was using an electric fan heater with thermostat and there was little difference air doesn't seem to move that much smoke in a kitchen shows you that, a couple of curtains across a doorway help stop heat loss.

A little late, but the answer to your query depends on the temperature difference and air flow. It’s not like residential room air moves as sudden as a gas leak (or it shouldn’t be) so depending on that, the process could take minutes or even hours.
You’d be FAR better off marking a dozen test spots on a wall surrounding the room, taking a base reading from each test spot using a handheld thermometer, then opening the door and measuring those spots every 10 minutes.
I have/use a FLIR One and it’s just going to recalibrate, you’d need to be tracking test spots anyways.
Edit: Thermal cameras look at surface temperature, so this furthers my point so unless you have a thick wall of air moving (like steam for example), the camera isn’t going to pick that up.

Hi Clive - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
It's a FLIR thermal camera as seen here #ad:
Want to get your own FLIR thermal imaging camera?:
      UK: Android: amzn.to/3Gu6EZv (Amazon)
      UK: iOS: amzn.to/3ZAmyur (Amazon)
      US: Android: amzn.to/3QoFuId (Amazon)
      US: iOS: amzn.to/3Ix88ov (Amazon)
You can share photos so I suspect if you share the image via email you should be able to. It took around 30-45 mins to charge to full for me and I got around 2 hours of use from it although not all in one go. I had no problems but it isn't as good as this one: Pocket 2 here:
      UK: amzn.to/3T0y67i (Amazon)
      US: amzn.to/3ZrYIjZ (Amazon)

To expand on this a bit further for those interested, you choose whether you have a choice between Android or iPhone models. If you want to switch between phones, then you’ll need to get an adapter like USB-C (Android) to Lightning (iPhone 14 and below) or vice versa.
To clarify “all”, you’re probably not going to get this to work on anything outside of Android or iPhone (requires the FLIR app).

What about the floor? Is yours insulated? Concrete or timber?

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  2 года назад

It's a good question. Our house is around 20 years old and the EPC suggests solid floor, limited insulation (assumed).
