  • Welcome (Bienvenidos) to Neil’s Spanish Fly Box, where we take a look at some of the flies used in Spain and elsewhere.
¿Hola, que tal? En principio, este es un video diseñado para pescadores que entienden inglés, pero por supuesto, ¡cualquiera puede verlos! Si eres un pescador de habla hispana y te gustaría comentar en español, te responderé en español. ¡No seas tímido!
Learn about some new (some, not so new) and interesting fly patterns, that can be found in every Spanish fly fisherman’s armoury, including some ‘must haves’! Real flies for real fly fishers.
I have fly fished in Spanish competitions for over a decade, on rivers and still water, learning a great deal about the Spanish way of fishing and the flies that
    are used.

    Simple yet looks potentially productive.
    Thanks for sharing!

Hello Iva, good to hear from you. Indeed, a simple tying that shrinks down when wet, but like all streamers, will catch its fair share of trout on its day. Thank you for your kind comment.😊

You snuck another mid-weeker in on me Neil. Good looking fly. I've never tried a brush before. Maybe I should.

Hello Michael, indeed, another mid-weeker, just for you!🤭 I have already said that it looks a bit scary, but it does fine down, leaving a very attractive set of legs. Do give it a go. I hope that your back continues to improve.😉

Interesting. How big would a fish have to be to be interested in that size of a fly?

Hello there, how are you? It looks a bit frightening, but when it is wet, it slims down quite a lot, which leaves the legs tantalisingly moving in the stream. To be honest, trout are naturally greedy, in the sense that, they need to get to the food before another trout! So any size could attack it, but probably not something smaller than around 8”.🤷‍♂️

I cringed when you cut the running brush core with your best scissors.
Did you make your own running brush or did you buy it ?
It looks a great fish catcher though

Hello Keith, I misplaced my old scissors at the wrong moment! I did however, use the lower, thicker part of the scissors. I checked afterwards and no harm done - heavy cringe avoided!😉 I didn’t make my own dubbing brush, it was purchased from ‘Doug Swisher’ some years ago. I also purchased some of the ‘leg’ material to make my own when I run out. This streamer is not for the faint hearted, it looks fearful, but catches its fair share of trout.😬
