The set of squats - I’m following a program and I report back the RPE. Was it easy, yes. So I make that clear in my program and my coach amends it next week. RELAX. 😂
Very refreshing to hear somebody admit “they were just not good enough” at something rather than give all of the excuses, we have all met that guy down the pub smashing back the pints. Yes, I’m talking about me
"Enjoyed" the adoption bit mate, got a very similar story - and like you say, my parents are my parents - I found out bio-mam had died a couple years back, weird feeling but again her decisions back then have set me up for an outstanding life. Good to see you so open about it mate.
Put this on hungover thinking I’d just watch you workout and talk shit but it ended up hitting a lot harder than I was ready for as someone Irish (and hanging out my arse). You continue to motivate me mate, down 35kg and still going ❤
Love these videos of you just chatting and working out... You doing a workout isn't something we've seen a lot of, i dunno why but it adds a different element... I love this and hope we get more of them 🙌🏾
Hey speaking from someone from Ireland , yea the guilt that young women where put through to give up the kid and the shame they where made to feel because it’s not apart of the churches idea of an idea woman at the time , I’m sure she thinks about you too mate and all the love in the world to you mate , to your family you know and don’t know.
@user-Real_JamesSmith Sorry, but I don't understand what the emoji means! By the way, my comment was not a personal attack! Just a fact. My eldest was born in 1990.
My dad had a hernia op recently. When he first developed it doctors said to wait till its worse, when it was worse he had to wait 15-17 hours till they operated. We're in New Zealand so it'd be safe to assume the op would go pretty smoothly, nope, the surgeon cut into his bladder and was left with a catheter for a month. Turns out the surgeon was a junior doctor and after all that waiting he was left worse than when he first developed it. If you do plan on getting the OP please do it under the supervision of a senior surgeon, no one should go through what my dad is still going through.
I have noticed that much more surgeons are being negligent nowadays? Same thing happened to my mom they severed an artery during an operation and she nearly died from internal bleeding when leaving the hospital and had to be rushed back , thank god she was with my sister or I would have no mother now, it’s scary how the ones who control our life don’t actually care about us but knowing god exists makes it worth it for us in the end and not for them wrongdoers
When I had my triple hernia surgery I had a very good senior doctor who actually found the third hernia on the operating table before Anesthesia. During the lead up to surgery however I had a few specialist checkups, one involving a junior doctor who couldn't even find the hernias I could physically see in a mirror and were poking visibly out. That was scary.
I don’t like single arm rows either- so awkward. I appreciate you sharing your story about being adapted and your thoughts on your biological mothers choice back then.
Been watching for a while but I enjoy your approach to all this - sensible no nonsense information that everyone can understand. Also love the fact you have a ThruDark T-shirt on - my favourite clothing company. Even have the wife watching you now as well!!! 💪💪💪💪
He's becoming more and more Australian 😂😂 he has the emergency bathers, the bare feet, loves the beach life. Next he'll be sinking VBs and doing burnouts through the city.
Can't forget adding "eh?" to the end of most sentences. I spent 4 days around Aussie's when in Europe, honestly the most infectious little addition ever
In regard to the barefoot comments. I think you'd enjoy Gary Ward's book What The Foot. He talks about the importance of how the feet influence the rest of the body and vice versa. I think you'd enjoy the first part which is rants about myths and conceptions like core stability and static stretching.
Would be interested in the BJJ specific strength training program you are following and how many days that is. I've always just kept to main movements (Squat/Deadlift/OverheadPress/Bench) with either barbell or heavy kettlebells but if I'm doing BJJ 3-4 times a week plus an open mat on the weekend I'm already spending hours in the gym. Any suggestions/recos would be appreciated!
I've got an umbilical hernia too. They said the same to me, and now I've been on a waiting list for months. It's mad that our intestines are just poking out sometimes, and sometimes shit gets stuck in it. If that ever happens, lay down and let gravity suck it back in
As a novice, surprised how much of it was pissing about, chatting shit and resting. Worth bearing in mind as I work up heavie weights and it gets harder.
Really enjoy your videos and banter ! Not telling a pt how to train but your knee on bench dumbbell rows have been shown to cause the problem you have with your bellybutton hernia .
The mic on the hat did make the audio quality better, however, it also made all audio quieter in comparison to your previous videos. Hope that helps for next time.
Hahahhahaaa this vid cracked me up ... your French is better than mine and Im an English Coach working in in the land of Frogs ... I know my French isnt great the joke is that my clients dont correct me, so I think im speaking okay until I venture out to the real French speaking world and realise I should stick to anglais hahaha
Love your content James, but can you explain more about these dead half squats? Doesn't look beneficial. Why do those instead of full rep squats? If I saw someone in the gym doing them I would be judging - but then again I'm not a PT
We were both in Cadets 😂💪 I was the only cadet to have all the training, but I was never promoted. But I was mates with everyone so it didn't matter 😂. I was the best fucking marksman too
I’d get along with you an as ex PT. Also as a lad down the pub. But fuck me I was screaming pick up the weight and stop fucking around! 😂 Love the sets though. Strength is king. For every walk of life.
I'm really curious about the "look up when you do squats"-thing... If I look up while doing squats i tend to make a hollow cross, because my Head pulls up my neck, pulls up (and back) my shoulders. This is why i worked into myself to look down at an angle, somewhere several meters in front of me... So my whole back will be straight... Am I doing this wrong?
James as an enlightened lifter i payed attention to the sets of squats, you could've gone harder.. and to me that's denying growth you had atleast 20 more. The layman lifter never asks himself after a set could've i gone harder?
first thing that came to mind mate is that you don't need a coach i think you are knowledgeable enough but be careful last thing you want is your coach spelling you some mumbo jumbo getting you deadlifting on a bosu ball eyes closed
I knew a guy called Creepy for years, one of my father in laws friends. He always seemed sound but thought he must have been a dirty bastard for something to be called Creepy. Nope… I found out after asking my father in law what on earth he did to get that name. “He didn’t do anything, his name is Kevin Crawley🤷🏼♂️” Brilliant.

James Smith is the future of RUclips
This was actually quite good, felt like I was casually having a chat with my training partner

My wife was adopted. It was the equivalent of a lottery win for her (without the cash, unfortunately 😂). Her parents are great people.
Put this on hungover thinking I’d just watch you workout and talk shit but it ended up hitting a lot harder than I was ready for as someone Irish (and hanging out my arse).

Fun training session that became realer as the video progressed. I appreciate you and you just talking to us. Cheers 🍻
Great video. The adoption views too show a very mature and well adjusted mindset. Loved it.

Trained in that gym under the Rugby club at Maidenhead, many years ago ,was a good gym.

I always find it more impressive to control a deadlift on the way down too, rather than dropping it.
Still a great video - thanks James!
As a swimmer I instinctively know every 45s cause that's when you might do a rep of a single length, so you learn to remember each interval.
Lets see Andrew Eubanks be like Sam for a day
