I love planning, shopping my stash for fabric, and sewing, vacation capsule wardrobes. A couple of easy pieces that have a vacation vibe and coordinate with each other. Also wearing and photographing them in the vacation location to post on my blog and Instagram.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 💕 Love this approach!! Sometimes just a couple of easy pieces are all it takes to feel put together with our special me-mades. Hope you're having a great week!
Hi Angela. The Maxine Crop by Elizabeth Suzann (with some length added) could be a good dupe for the Madewell tie-back top. Have fun sewing for your vacation.
I’ve made clothes for a trip before. My favorite make was a Songbird from Pattern Emporium. I wear it often still! I agree with the Nosara from I2S for the short button up that another suggested. I would consider modifying the Cadence by LN for the open back top. It has similar front lines and a seam up the back. Redraft the back facing and add ties!
Hi Donna, thanks so much for sharing your experience and for the great recommendations! I really like the looks of the Songbird, might make a great swimsuit coverup 😊
Oh my gosh, you’re going to have some cute vacation clothes, Angela! I can’t remember the last time I actually went on a vacation. Ha! If I have a special occasion, like going to a play, I sew for that. Easier than planning a capsule vacation wardrobe for sure.
Hi Lynn! Thanks so much for stopping by. After last year's marathon capsule sewing, I told myself I am going to sew only for fun and take it as I go this year. So I might just make a couple of outfits and call it a day 😂😂😂
You did a good job matching RTW looks with patterns. That navy linen dress is spot on! When I saw the boxy top with collar, I immediately thought of the Itch to Stitch Nosara top--probably because I recently made it. I try not to feel pressured to make new clothes before a trip, but it happens anyway! I can tell you what I've made that definitely didn't work--a jumpsuit! Trying to take off all my outer layers first and maneuvering in small public funky bathrooms in England--yikes!
Hi there and thank you so much! The Nosara looks really cute. I agree with you on the jumpsuits - they're so cute but man, can they be a real pain to maneuver! Thanks so much for visiting and sharing your experience. Hope you have a great week! 💕
oversized revere collar shirt blouse by make it yours looks so close to the boxy shirt. I love the shirt dress! I'll need to make one once i finish what im working on right now
Hi there! I'm not familiar with Make it Yours patterns and I just took a look. They have so many cute patterns! Thanks for introducing me! Best wishes with your shirt dress, let us know how it turns out. Have a great week 💕💕💕
That tie back top you liked. By all means, use the pattern you have! (I always swear i’m not going to buy another pattern 😂) McCalls have M8321 which is a new-ish release and on my list of patterns I’m definitely not going to buy next time they’re having a sale. It’s similar to your Style one but the skirt back ends at the waist with an elastic casing. It might be easier to adapt. There’s a lot of tie back patterns in the last couple of years, you might find a closer one.
Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing this!! M8321 does look adorable. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I hope you have a great week ahead!
Ah, I'm not alone! I used to get really stressed about it (well, truth be told, once in a while I still do), but now I just remind myself that my life is very full and I'm thankful to have my job, family, home, garden, etc that all keeps me very active even if it means that sewing can't be #1 all the time. Thanks so much for sharing!
Vacation? Whats a vacation.... I'm married to someone that does not "vacation". After 3 days MAX he sours. So we have not taken a vacation in YEARS. I am so hoping to get him to do something special for our 40th anniversary next year but I am not holding my breath. Ah well... your plans look GREAT have have sewing up those new goodies!
Basically that shirt is the Friday Pattern company Donny Shirt. You can hack to add a button placket. Or just keep it simple and follow the pattern.. I love the navy linen dress❤may copy your plan. 😊

Great plans Angela!
My recently made bathing suit is my favorite vacation make 🙂
Thank you, Michelle! That is awesome! One day I’ll get the courage to try a swimsuit 😊
You’re like me…I see something at a store that is really expensive and I tell my husband “I can make three of those for what they want for one!”
Absolutely!!! Sewing is our superpower! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I made a PM pattern Ethel dress in a vibrant colourful fabric in order to take to the Caribbean ❤😊
Sounds lovely! I'm not familiar with that company and I will check it out. Thanks so much for watching and for your thoughtful comment!

I’ve just duplicated the Carved wood Sea-salt midi dress from the style arc Armindale pattern and it’s turned great
Pretty dress and I think you found the perfect dupe to sew one up yourself! I’m happy to hear it turned out so well ♥️

I’m also a slow sewer. I try not to stress myself out about making something. ❤

there's a free pattern from Sarah Kirsten called Morning Glory that is similar to the tie-back top.
Thanks for the tip! Just took a look at it & it looks great 👍🏻
