Manfrotto heads are not comparable. I tried adapting my Manfrotto head to this Gorilla tripod. My old Joby Gorilla uses a Swiss thread screw to mount the head to the tripod. I forgot the name of the other proffessional tripod manufacturer that uses this Swiss mounting system for fastening the head to the tripod.
The 501 plate annoys me on the Befree live head. The others in the befree range use smaller plates, why not stick to one? The 501 looks like overkill on the 3K legs?
The longer plate is used to adjust the camera position on the head so that it is balanced. With a standard plate and larger lens it would be front heavy, which can make tilting less smooth
Trust me, this heavy Gorilla pod is very well thought out. It's tentacles are very stiff and sure gripping. Each ball joint has a fantastic neoprene grippy rubber that stands up to brutal weather yet will not scratch delicate hard surfaces. Those neoprene gaskets are what make this bendy pod so tough and versatile.
Looks nice and compact. I wonder if you can buy the head separately?
It looks A LOT like the Manfrotto BeFree Live head except with the modification of the accessory arm
(Which you can buy separately from the BeFree Live tripods)

Not sure that is such a good idea, their existing product is unique and works well, this is... like putting net curtains on your camper van ?

I was actually thinking of building a small bendy tripod with fluid head the other day,then I saw this... 🙄
