Matt, I like your tip from another video and I now use it for every swing on the course or the range: Take your stance and grip as if you're ready to swing and then softly let go of the club with the trail hand. If that hand moves outward away from your body, you're too far away. If it moves inward toward your body, you're too close to the ball. It should simply fall to a neutral position. I think I got that right and it's a very simple measuring stick to use.
My pleasure and thank you for the original question. You helped me discover an important aspect of the swing and that I never really thought about covering before.
@@yoursimplegolfswingI consider myself to be a diligent student of the golf swing so I’m amazed to discover this after all these years. How could I miss this? I went back and started to review my resources and found that many teachers and lower handicap golfers subscribe to the idea of increasing upper body lean or knee flex as the clubs get shorter. It appears to be somewhat taken for granted. Your explanation however makes perfect sense. I went to the range yesterday to try it and I can say it feels much more comfortable and natural to maintain a more upright stance throughout all club lengths. I did shank a few with the shortest clubs until I realized I was thrusting my right hip toward the ball on the downswing. Once that was under control all was good. Thank you very much, Jack
Jack thanks for sharing that about going through your resources and finding all these instructors that tell people to introduce more lean with the shorter clubs. That’s just horrible in the lower back and like I said in the video introduces a lot of inconsistency. I’m so glad you went to the range give it a try. Thanks for all your comments I appreciate it.
Fantastic video! During a round it is often necessary to reset your golf swing. Grip for me is the first thing I do, ball position another, but this one may be the easiest reminder to get into position on a consistent basis.
That speaks to the importance of developing a pre-shot routine. If you practice doing a pre-shot routine before every shot, it will help keep you from going off the rails mid round
I had not even considered how this video would impact our previous discussion on one length clubs. Thanks so much for commenting. I’m glad this helped you keep some money in your pocket.
I have two points to make on that. For the most part golf club lie angles and lengths are standardized, but peoples heights are not standardized. That alone should tell you the concept of a 30° bend on everybody with different heights, would make the club work most efficiently is rubbish. The second point is we want the most efficient swing. Efficiency is in how you use the tool not in the tool itself.
I had a lot of fun making this video. It seems like nobody realizes that all the clubs are the same height. I can’t remember exactly when I discover this for myself but it was a game changer. I’ve never heard anyone mentioned this before.
@mikemoodie pretty funny when you think about, isn’t it? They have always made clubs like this, so you would never have to bend over more for the shorter clubs yet nobody seems to realize this.
@mikemoodie it may be lost corporate knowledge. They’ve been making clubs to a certain standard forever, and they might not even know why anymore. We lose a lot of knowledge when our elders pass away. Just look at how much knowledge the golf world lost with the passing of Mike Austin, and Mike Dunaway. It seems like modern golf instruction is lost, and desperately searching for answers to questions, already answered by the generations before us.
Well explained 👌
Thank you 🙂

Yes, you got that right. Mike Dunaway taught that and I’ve never seen anyone else teach it. I think it’s brilliant
Well demonstrated, thank you.

Brilliant! Simple! Clear! Thanks,

Thanks Schaun, I appreciate your comment
Interesting..will try this out..never heard this concept 💡..thanks..I am grateful
You’re welcome 😊
I really appreciated this advice. I have never heard this before but now that I see it I believe it. No more back aches :)
Glad it was helpful!

Great comment. Resetting your golf swing mid round is so often overlooked. Thank you for reminding everyone.
Thanks, I'll incorporate that into my practice.
Excellent
Great tip . I find myself starting out upright but during a round leaning over without realizing it .

Thanks for enlightening me, I did not consider this manufacturing quirk of golf clubs I have decided there is no need to buy one length irons. 🤔

We are at 30 degrees in our forward bend? I’ve been told, at 30degrees our golf clubs were made to work most efficiently.

Good morning. Done making vids? Haven't heard from you in a while.
No. It’s been a combination of weather and home projects I’ve been working on. I’ll have more video soon.
Good lol, because I'm still working the swing and fighting for distance. Accuracy is there tho.@@yoursimplegolfswing
Wow, this really clears up a lifelong misconception. Hope Bryson DC watches this video!

@yoursimplegolfswing exactly - that's why the lie angles steepen as the clubs get "shorter " . Seems so obvious now!

@yoursimplegolfswing you'd think the club manufacturer's would have pointed this out by now!

great instruction!
Thank you!
