I think P1 and 2 will get a remake at some point, but I think P4 will get a remake first. I know P4 doesn't need a remake but look at it from Atlus perspective, it's a popular game with PS2 level graphics, the original P4 is basically a ROM hack of P3 so they can use a lot of assets from 3 reload and a few from 5 royal, and 3 Reload is the fastest selling games that Atlus has ever made, so this remake will probably also sell well, the game will be released after P6 so they can also use ideas and mechanics from P6 to make an even better game
there is an argument that can be made that 1 and 2 will get a remake first and it's based on survey statistics. the survey was what lead us to a p3 remake and both p1 and 2 outdid p4 result wise and some heads of atlus are in fact interested in doing so, they can also argue how a p4 remake may not be the best pick because they can bring up the argument of p4g being so accessible on modern hardware would people purchase full price over a older version that's reasonably cheap
@@nightwish1453 I definitely think that P1 and 2 will get a remake at some point, that's for sure. but just like Sonic adventure 1 and 2, that's easier said than done. Even though the story of P1 and 2 is great the gameplay hasn't aged well especially because 80% of Persona fans started with 5 so they have to change a lot of things for modern audiences. they should take their time for a remake of P1 and 2
@@joopvanhedel1372 the gameplay for the old games can be good but it's better to refine what's there rather then dumb it down in place of the modern stuff which admittedly the sense of difficulty in the likes of royal is kind of depressing specially the pay to win personas now given to you in the base game. if you go from IS and EP you can see the improvements
@@nightwish1453 I don't think they should change it completely, but things like a bit of the combat and especially the dungeon design didn't age well. they really need to take their time with the remakes and change that
I 100% agree with you. Persona 1 and 2 Duology would be amazing. And Persona 4 deserves a remake and it’s still an amazing game today but it is noticeably dated. Though I wonder if they would Include Marie and The Hollow Forest but probably not it would be weird to add it as DLC because P5R and P3R have the third semester and Episode Aigis at the end respectively. P4 has Hollow Forest in between Magatsu Inaba and the final dungeon but idk and not sure what DLC other than costumes and music they would add or even extra bosses. Maybe they do a boss rush type of thing like the data fights in KH2 or Mario Party 9 but just make they much harder and whatever else they can do.
Big correction. The JP voice acting cast is all the original, including Metis. Katsura Hashino was also the director of the original Persona 3. Bringing back all of the JP voice actors is impressive because all of them are A to S tier VAs in terms of notoriety and cost. But most of the original P Studio are working on Metaphor.
Really good video, and I understand what you mean when they modernize a game for a remake and how they change things some things for better and some for worse which is a big topic of debate in the final fantasy community with remake and rebirth and how they changed things so I think it comes with the territory of remaking an older game.
I don’t think reload really changes P3’s vibe that much at all, and this is coming from someone who’s played every version of P3 (including vanilla) at least once. The only things I noticed them removing was shit that was just edgy for the sake of edgy because it was the 2000s and that was in at the time. In the main game I didn’t really notice much of note and with episode aigis the only scene I can really think of is the shadow Makoto scene, which I personally never saw as “disturbing” I always just kinda saw it as more edgy 2000s bullshit, and that’s coming from someone who loves edgy 2000s bullshit 😂 And when it comes to them “censoring” more controversial stuff In possible future remakes, I don’t really have any reason to believe they would do that. The only thing even close to that stuff is with Yukari in the answer and even that I thought was (mostly) harmless. I feel like they kept enough of her arc for it to still make sense and I even think them changing it so that she didn’t know that Aigis’ life was at risk was a good change, I’m fine with characters being pushed to dark places but Yukari straight up being willing to sacrifice 1 persons life for another never sat well with me (especially when that person is also a close friend who she becomes roommates with not even a day later) cause I just don’t think it’s in her character to go that far, whereas in reload it feels more like she’s just acting on impulse without stopping to consider how bad the possible consequences could be which feels like a more realistic thing for someone who’s grief stricken to do. Though I do agree that removing her trying to snatch the key kinda lessens the impact of that scene.
There some weird errors with the yukari change where the scripts from the other characters are left untouched so sometimes it overplays what she actually said
People have just fundamentally misunderstood Persona 3. It was always a bittersweet game that ultimately ends on a hopeful note but for some reason people just fixated on the bitterness which yes, while important, was not the entire picture. Reload is not a bastardization, the authors intent was always there. (granted some changes like the answer were 100% just changes I'm not saying there's no differences) but other cases it's literally just misunderstanding what the original game was actually about. and yeah interpretation is a thing but authors intent with a story is also a thing. The "death of the author" debate has become such nonsense in modern times just as an excuse for people to get mad when something doesn't align with their headcanon
I think they should. I would love if Persona and the two Persona 2 games get a modern remake. I want people to experience the stories of those games. Also I wouldn’t mind a Persona 4 remake so then all the games are up to modern standards.
in an ideal world, your hopes and expectations would be the case but i don't really see that as a possibility anymore. the old atlus staff have expressed that they want the new blood to take the series in their own direction. it's vague, but i think this could also extend to retroactively changing things about the previous games to keep the series uniform (or at the very least, they never said it was off the table). at this point, i'd rather the new staff to just try to give their remakes their own identity outside the originals instead of fumbling to replace them and preserving the originals thru straight ports/a classic collection of sorts.
Also I agree with this with some extent Having a completely new direction when making remakes is fine But should we still keep the story honest to how it always was? FF7 is a gold example because they genuinely changed a lot of the story and the fans weren’t happy And yes they should definitely try using more ports
I think if Atlus is going to remake, re-release or remaster Persona 2 (both IS & EP), they could re-release the duology with fully voiced story dialogue in both Japanese and English.
Honestly, SMT games getting a remake is indeed a rarity, but getting a similar treatment to Reload is even more rare considering how they handled Nocturne HD.
Persona 3 Reload has become the fastest-selling title in the history of Atlus. The remake sold over 1 million copies within one week. So financially makes sense to continue remakes, it got people that never heard about persona interested just by opening song and cinematic. That said atlus could've done several things better about reload, foremost before release and pre-order dont lie about not releasing the answer when it was ready before release to farm money while not including it in the aigis edition. Secondly i never want to hear the words ''faithfull remake'' and joker in the same sentence, not elovating the tactics system used in p3p is one thing but completly letting it rot with braindead ai is sad. And lastly if you're gonna remake prior games into p5r versions atleast add the good parts about p5r not the bad parts like its difficulty. Praying atlus doesnt butcher p4g but you already know they'll find an way to add joker somehow 💀
I haven’t played Reload to really dislike it but I gotta say it’s one of those things I wouldn’t call soulless because you can tell in the voice acting-even if people hate the dub voices the new actors DO try-art direction and the music the people working on this was super passionate, it felt like it didn’t need to happen and only existed for money. Obviously a remake primarily exists for money but yeah this one does feel like a cashgrab even if it’s not a soulless one because I was rubbed the wrong way they remade 3 when p3p was already on consoles. And people complained the port of that was sloppy and p3p being a visual novel hinders the experience, but femc is still content the remake choose to not include, but it feels like femc not being in the remake and p3p being cheaper is the only justification for reload to exist because they refuse to port fes, especially given they turned the answer into dlc. And now with the possibility of more remakes while P1 and the P2 duology would have more of a reason given they haven’t been ported, if they remade P4 it be unnecessary as hell given golden has everything you could want in P4 so I hope Atlus at least learns from the mistakes of Reload cause the game isn’t as bad as it could be, but it definitely missed the mark in some places and they should take all criticisms moving forward into at least all persona remakes.
