Telling Simon that Kaylee died, was a way for Mal to test him, and see if he would redeem himself. Had Simon not rushed to the infirmary, Mal would have known that he only cared about himself and River.

Welcome to the Firefly ‘Verse! Yes, The Alliance is the one government. That’s what the war was about in the beginning. Captain Reynolds and Zoe fought on the side of the Independents, against the centralized control of The Alliance. The Independents were called Browncoats because of the clothing they wore. (Fans of the show often refer to themselves as Browncoats, in honor of their Captain.) 😉 Even though they were on the loosing side, Captain Mal doesn’t believe it was the wrong side. Serenity represents freedom to him. He just tries to stay as far away from The Alliance as possible. And you’re right, River and Simon being on the boat is going to make that complicated.
I saw "Firefly" just after the turn of the century, and watched what episodes Fox TV deigned to broadcast. It was challenging to find episodes, because Fox TV preempted it for sports events then moved it to the "Friday evening Death Slot." Naturally, it failed to build a big enough fandom and was mercilessly cancelled. Due to these shenanigans, I didn't see all of "Firefly" until I got the DVD set. It's a well-written series with believable characters and great dialogue. You are in for a great ride.;)
You know the misinformed Advertising of the TV series, not showing the pilot episode first, showing episodes out of order, and changing the day/timeslot was not by accident but done intentionally by the Executive that took over the position of the one that had green-lit Firefly. He wanted to cancel the series. Reasons I have heard he didn't like Science Fiction and wanted to reduce costs. The other is revenge for his niece trying out for a part on the show and getting turned down.
They used to say sci-fi tv shows were just westerns in outer space. This show just ran with the idea. And it does make some sense. On the frontier, new worlds are not going to have industry or infrastructure. So you would expect a mix of high tech and primitive until new colonies are well established and built up.
Companion = Space Geisha. Yes, there is sex. The main job is as arm candy and conspicuous consumption. "I can afford to hire a companion," sort of brag
@@WereintheBasement this is one of the greatest series ever, with a fandom to match. I'm still irked that only 5 of the main characters got action figures made of them. (Yes, I have them all)
Fox: The show is cancelled.
Fans: Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.

Thank you!!! Enjoying the series so far, episode 3 will be out Monday!
First rule of Firefly - don't be rude to Kaylee!
Welcome to the 'verse. It actually gets much better from here.
Telling Simon that Kaylee died, was a way for Mal to test him, and see if he would redeem himself. Had Simon not rushed to the infirmary, Mal would have known that he only cared about himself and River.
That Mal is one clever fella!

That scene right after Doc finds Kaley alive, and they are all laughing about it-they are actually laughing at the audience-they got you good.
Shiny!
Welcome to the Firefly ‘Verse!

The theme song is inspiring.
Loved the theme song and all the background music! RUclips on the other hand did not. Lol Lot of copyright issues on this one.
The other language they speak is Mandarin. It plays into the world building, but also allows them to swear without getting censored.
18:45 there was a question about Star Trek that went around among the fandom- "Where are the bathrooms?" Whedon answers this right off...
I was thrown off when he was playing with his fly then I saw the toilet drawer and was intrigued. 🤣
The thing about this show is every episode is better than the last. I hope you like it...we "brown coats" sure love it.
This should get you more views, it's the best TV ever.
I love this show so much!! Its space cowboys, and who doesn't love space cowboys?
First episode was a lot of fun!
Yay😂 another Firefly reaction ❤
Happy to have you along for the ride! 😁

@@ThePharaz Off the Nakatomi Tower Plaza building with you, benighted Fox TV executive!;)

I just found your channel. Welcome to the 'Verse! You'll love it ;)
New Firefly reactor?!? Instant sub! Looking forward to the ride!
Nobody sheds a tear for Lawrence when he gets dumped out the cargo hold doors.
Nope just a chuckle or two. 🤣
Shame this only had 14 eps. At least they made a movie to tie up a few things.

The Companion is Deadpool's girlfriend.
You mean Anna the leader of the Visitors? THE REPTILIAN IN DISGUISE?!?!
Welcome to the noble ranks of the Browncoats!
Thank you kindly! I'm having a lot of fun with this series!

It's Chinese they use to swear. There's in-universe reason for it beside the obvious getting past the tv censors.
