Salt gets trapped up inside between the two panels and sits there all the time. Then every time the truck gets wet, that salt activates and keeps rusting those panels. If you point a hose just right, you will see gray water flushing out between the spot welds, you can slow it down by doing this, but it will rust eventually. My truck is a 2008 and bubbles just this month showed up.. December 2021. I popped two of them and nasty water sprayed out like zits, it was salty water. Yes, I tasted it, gross...I know. Awesome series, thank you for making these!!
this is why you take your taillights out and pressure wash frequently, then drill a 1/4" hole on the inside for oiling. park the truck nose down, open the doors and squirt wd/40 in the bottom drain holes, pop the hood, wash inside the fenders and oil, some yrs of dodge have a louver type thing in the bottom of the rear door ,stick the pressure wasdher tip in there and it washes out the cab corner and inside the rocker panels
Sounds Good. I like to do body work. (well I used to, Bad Health now) But, I still like to watch car's being built and Love to see Rod's being built. My last one was a 38' chevy p/u Street Rod.
MY 03 RAM IN OTTAWA CANADA IVE OILED IT 2 TIMES A YEAR..REGULAR CHAINSAW OIL N MOTOR OIL ..USED OIL .. DIF FLUID TOO.. WITH MY 20$ RUSTPROOFING KIT ON MY COMPRESSOR.. MY RAM HAS NO RUST WHAT SO EVER.. .. THE OIL IS SO THICK IT CANT EVER RUST AND EVERY BOLT COMES LOOSE WHEN THE TRUCK NEEDS REPAIR..
*NOT THE SEALER! if you would reach your hand further up in the fender there should be some cheap sound deadening foam up n there between the inner fender and the inner bed side. your fix is right on the money with all the others i've seen but if you don't pull that foam out of the inside of the fender it will come back rotting faster than the initial rust that appeared*
hey Man just found this vid. i am about to do the same on my truck. My question is i never want this to happen again and most problems start on the inside where you can't see it until is to late. so how do you protect the inside where you can't get to it after you weld?
I was informed by a friend of mine who does body work that dodge used a different type of paint from 04 - 09 on their trucks and this is why they rot out? I have a 05 dodge ram 64,000 on it and the rockers and box look like they have 164,000
Double R Restorations i just got a 2008 eith 84,000 im in canada and its just rotting on the rear wheel wells, doors, the tailgate. Even the bolts holding down the seats are rusting
It is a low budget fix but you'll have rust that develops on the seam of the patch. Its rare to fin a 3rd gen Ram in the upper midwest without rusted out beds wheel wells and rocker panels. You should see mine. I put flares on it to first cover up the bubbling paint and it progressed so bad the flares fell off.
@@mcdivittscustomauto9894 where do you order them thru? Thanks. I restored a 77 chevy years ago but those parts are easier to come by and much cheaper.
That just made me cringe when he put that screw driver to the metal. Get yourself a soap stone pencil, they work great! I know it will all be weld over in the end.
Wtf doNOT do this unless you don't want to keep your truck for more than a year! This "repair" will fail faster than the OEM panels did. And NEVER listen to someone who says "we don't put those back on around here".
@@jonathanyates5198 the original one was genius. Why use panel bond if not mating surfaces? Always nice to get unsolicited opinions from someone who doesn't know anything

Where did you get the patch from?
Not only in the Midwest.

Not much you can do, other than give it to er with the Under Coating
Oil, or quality bedliner
What the name of those panels and where can I find them, thanks

Good video
Like the rust repair vids so I'll be watchin'
That's a lot of rust. I've seen a lot of those trucks here in VA rusting in the same area.
+Double R Restorations everything around the midwest is totally rusted out new trucks make it only a few years before they start showing rust bubbles.
Especially the Dodge Rams.

Not if you treat the back side. It's not hard
Mine has the rib rusted out. Can you replace that? Or needs whole new box?
you will most likely need a complete box side or a new box.
@@mcdivittscustomauto9894 Thanks, Might have make her into a flat bed lol Cuz these getting harder find 2nd hand
Nice video. Do these patches work on Silverados?
we changed over to only using full bed sides now . these patches are only good for a quick fix on a beater truck.
yes they do make them for every brand of truck but if you want a good long lasting repair dont use these

They don't fail if you do them right. Just like anything else welded, the backside of the panel has to be treated or install with panel bond

No
