Great episode. Our garage was filled to the brim with junk, tools all over the place etc. I put my foot down and told my husband we need to clean this out. We'll after 3 weekends and junk to the dump we finished. Then we hired a handyman to redesign the garage. Now we can get 2 cars in it. My husband thanked me for pushing him to do this project. I learned from your episode not to start many projects at once. We are more relaxed now.
I'm addicted to the show Hoarders because it motivates me to get my life together before it gets to that point. But what I love about this show is how they give tips to clean and manage different things. I have cedarwood essential oil and never thought about mixing it with water in a small spray bottle, spraying paper towels, letting them dry and then "stringing" the paper towel through the loop on every 4-5 garments hanging up. Genius and very inexpensive! I also like the suggestion to use lemon on the door handles and light switches. The whole premise of the show is that the hosts are proper and civilized. They exaggerate this quality for entertainment purposes.
That's all very well until they're given a final non negotiable deadline by social services or environmental health after years of prior visits & patience.
These aren't recent, you know. They're from 2007 thru 2009, as How Clean is Your House was winding down (it had to be cancelled because Kim and Aggie reached the point that they could no longer tolerate each other's presence).

Kim and Aggie had a huge falling out about 12 years ago, and reached the point that they could no longer stand to be in the same space together. Production for the final season of HCYH had to be done with Kim doing her shootings in the morning, with another woman standing in for Aggie; then Aggie would go to the studio in the afternoon, and the producers would do the filming with her. They'd then blend the two productions to make it look as if that week's show was done with the two of them filmed together. It was decided that they would not continue making the show under such tense circumstances, so 2009 was the end of it.
So the kids are in all these activities, the parents take them to all these activities, the parents work full-time jobs? Seems to me, they are training them to be selfish. How about less activities activities and helping out more at home ? There's value in home Life .
Apparently Kim is, ahem, difficult to get along with. Very difficult hear tell. With Aggie it reached the point that they would not be together at all ever. Too bad, really. One should try to treat others kindly, not rudely.
Anyone else watch this with the sound very, very low, look at the beginning then kind of skim tot the end? The cleaner/lifestyle expert on this show are so annoying it's unbearable. And they push the same old tired gendered assignments. Men do repairs, women do the tidying.
It’s not that it’s “of its time” because these episodes are only about 12 years old. It’s that the families featured are already running things that way. I wish they’d have chosen a few less tradtional families, but there’s no sense in making the moms in these episodes organize the workshop or the garage if they aren’t the ones who trashed them.

Kim was a professional cleaner for something like 52 years before retiring from that, and the show How Clean is Your House? ending.
Exactly, I learned so much from her shows like cleaning off stickers/ labels from surfaces, and the miracle of baking soda.
