Ok you werent kidding you really did get an SSG M1 - fantastic review Ray I feel if your not European Mil / LE they dont really care about supporting this weapon system IMO they dont care bc they have lost those markets to AI/Sako My fear is if you buy this weapon and want to change calibre get new barrels etc you'll be up the creek without a paddle unless your name in Hans and your in uniform
Great Review! I have the AI AXSR, Barrett MRAD as well as the Steyr SSG O8-A1 and the M1 is my next buy. you are correct that service is terrible, waited 6 months for a mag for the 08-A1! Love the cutout in the mag well and the rotary safety. Keep the reviews coming!
Man that’s a beautiful tactical Steyr bolt action rifle. Back in the 90s I came close to buying a Steyr SSG but they were just a bit too expensive at the time so I got me a poor mans Sako (Tikka M55) instead. Great review as always 👍.
ROFL, $9k rifle and customers can't get support. Sounds like Beretta USA and that's definitely not a complement. Thanks for the review though, love seeing these as I might never in the wild.
Fantastic video, mate! You may have a look at the follower of your magazine! Depending on the calibre you are using, the follower changes. The follower is changing whether you shoot .308 or .338LM, just to give you an example. If I'm right, the magazine box itself is the same. So you just have to change your follower. They are marked for the specific calibre. That could potentially solve your feeding problem. Greetings from Austria! I live next to Steyr Arms.
You get your hands on all the pretty little cool kids your! Great job Ray. Can't get any better than being released from hospital to having a XRing video waiting to see!!
Interesting the Steyr no support issue. The SSG M1 certainly performs well, shoots well and presents well but is let down by the importer. Excellent no BS review Ray - as always! With such a potential market in the US and such a high potential platform, I would think Steyr would definitely up their game. I hope the manufacturer in Austria is listening!
Nice video w/ honest opinions! And that's why among the European brands AI dominates the US market, with same price range, same ergonomics, same or even better accuracy, and much much more manufacturer's and aftermarket supports, it is hard to beat.
Thanks for reviewing this. Not very much on the internet about this rifle. I think that Steyr is one of the most under-represented rifles in the US market. I have 2 and love them both. BTW, as an AI owner I've not found "quick change" systems to be the convenience that most folks would think. A true conversion (say from .308 to .300 Win Mag), requires a bolt, magazine, and barrel and that's not a cheap investment with some of these high-end rifles. It's not bad if you want another barrel in the same family (say .308 to 6 CM), but that's still pretty limited in application. Also, unless you change the scope, the rifle will need to be re-zeroed which is not very exciting once you have good data and zero for long range.
It's pretty friggin stupid actually which is why I got a sako trg 42 for way cheaper. Just get an entire 2nd rifle in a smaller caliber. Makes no sense to me. Can buy 3 complete rifles for the price of one of these mukticaliber things.
Very nice Ray , always enjoy your content. Looked over my dad's shoulder while visiting him and he was watching one of your videos lol. I told him to pay attention and he could learn something
Should say that, on a barrel change, you’re actually meant to wind that bolt out until it goes tight and then a bit more, to spread the threads apart. There’s a washer that sits on top of the bolt head that protects the receiver from the rotating bolt head.
@@XRING No worries. How many rounds have you put through it so far? I got to 150, with an increasing amount of erosion seen at the crown (literal tiny chunks missing) and never got an explanation as to the likely cause.
Nice video. Everyone is jumping on that quick caliber change. I have been looking for the documentation because I believe as I understand it that it was part of a military ask.
Put a layer of 2 of moleskin under the follower to take the slack outta your spring n follower connection. Some put the moleskin on the base plate but I've had better luck under the follower. Good luck. Nice rifle. 🇺🇲
@x-ring wonder if you could 3d print a follower for that magazine that sits higher so it could catch that last round not sure if the material ill hold up tho such a nice & expensive riffle to have that happen.
I know it's not the same, but for a lot of these Euro rifles that are hard to get parts for, you could just 3d print the non-critical parts. Magazines especially can be 3d printed without too big of an issue, barrels no, but mags I'd say is worth it. I'm thinking about doing it when I get my MRAD as nearly $100 magazines are kinda stupid imo, especially for some of these other precision rifles that have mult-hundred dollar magazines.
There is no excuse for that. Steyr USA should have air mailed you new magazines free of charge for your review. Zero excuses. You just convinced people to buy an AI or Barrett MRAD. Steyr’s actions and barrels are among the best made. It is a shame they cannot provide you with support. This is worse than buying a Ferrari or other exotic car.
Thanks fer sharing, not refined enough for me, & definitely not an ai fan, imo, with near 60 years of longrange, the Sako is still my preferred switch-bbl./cal.
Ray, at 9K I was ready to order, then you said 275 per mag. I'm out. LOLOL Kidding, what a great review and as usual such great shooting. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for the share.

Love the dust cover too, hope to see more of them on bolt guns in the future.
Fantastic, first class as always, thanks
Thank you Ira!
Southern southpaw here, much obliged for your insight regarding the shell deflector.
I have had test the same rifle in 308win. It is a nice rifle, but i like more the Sako TRG M10. Trigger on the Steyr was nicht gut.
Sako m10 has a better trigger? Which was more accurate?
@@ryaniam22 Sako trigger is better

@Smatnm 200 or so
@@XRING Hopefully mine was a one off. My main worry was that I’d done something to cause it (and without knowing specifically how, repeating it).

oh and thanks for the great reviews as always! 😂
Yeah that’s disappointing for a 9k rifle. Heck Ruger rifles are 10x cheaper and their customer service will bend over backwards to help you.
👍🏻👍🏻 Great as always Ray!
Big fan always have been always will be
Thanks Sam! 👍🏼
Nice weapon you got it shoots well great shot and video for sure
Quality content as always. Hope all is well 👍
Thanks Ray awesome video! Cadex Kraken?
The 'ch' in Austrian German is pronounced the same as the 'ch' as in the Scottish 'Loch'. The 'st' is pronounced as 'sht'.. like "Shtyer".. 😊

Oh boy. @jaredlostetter is going to have to change his shorts.
Hahaha
How about compare with Sako TRG M10? Which one is better?
Any word on if these will ever be available in 300 NM?
Ray - what velocities are you getting on the 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain Match on the Garmin?
Can you do a video on your generator setup?
These rifles readily available in Australia and New Zealand
at x 2 the price
It’s a great rig and it should be for the price , it’s a shame the amount of support for the American buyer does it come in different color schemes
So much cool stuff, so little finance. I should've invested better. Thanks for the video. Be Safe
How do I sign up to come shoot the mile challenge??
Nice
I had one (SSG M1) but had to send it back. Ultimately got a full refund…..it was such a shame, I loved the rifle.
What rear bag you using ray?
How’s the 7prc?

Thunderbeast Ultra 7. 👍🏼
@@XRING thank you!
That looked good, until I saw 12K€ price, and a twist of 1:12 for the 308 barrel. They'll never reach AI/Sako/PGM. Too bad.
PGM?

Where is the magnus rr at?
On the 7PRC for the Elk hunt coming up. 👍🏼

Beautiful stick but too rich for my blood.
If you could only have one multi cal, between the Barret, AI, and Steyr, what's your choice?
Sako lol.
