  • More Man United misery for Aston Villa, who also suffered the incredible misfortune of ANOTHER season ending ACL injury, this time to Boubacar Kamara. In a fixture that had "statement game" written all over it, the visitors took the initiative and then won it late, to close the gap on 5th, and maybe sow the seeds of doubts on Villa's Champions League ambitions. Pete the Canadian Villa fan picked himself off the floor, before rewatching the match and sharing some thoughts on the affair. Believe it or not, there were positives and a noticeable response to both the midweek cup defeat, and the performance at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. Still, 3 defeats in a row at home, and another year without taking anything from the Red Devils is tough to swallow for diehard Villans.

Yes all of us are really disappointed by the result, and also by the news about Boubacar, but I urge all our wonderful fans to savour this moment in AVFC history with Unai Emery. He is by far the best manager in my time, and that includes Ron Saunders and Graham Taylor. We basically outclassed MUtd, we had them running around in circles for the most part, our passing networks and the quick movement of the ball was at times quite breathtaking. We just lacked an end product, our front guys were a little unlucky and credit to their goalie. After the huge decline post Martin O'Neill, relative to those years, now is football-heaven. Thanks Pete for the show. UTMV!

As I'm neither a Villa or Utd fan I say this without any bias or anything like that
First off there's no such thing as a Utd hoodoo
Game could easily have gone either way,it's not like Villa were outplayed.
Second. It's not terminal to your season. You are effectively in a 3 way fight for a top 4 finish with Tottenham and Utd .and there is still 12 games to go.
It's not about the defeat to Utd now it's about how you respond.

Great show Pete and thanks for the mention of the appalling abuse on social media of our players- it is a disgrace and is no way to support your team. I thought it was an excellent performance, especially going forward; we deserved the three points. I am worried about Boubacar and his absence; he is the keystone of our system and will not easily be replaced. It was good to see an impressive 90 minutes from Jacob Ramsey, I think he is finally back. UTV

The fact that we were positive and create chances is always a good thing. Yes, its disappointing we didnt convert them and lost, but its way better then being played out the park as seen on previous occassions when ever we faced Manure. Im enjoying the positivity from Unai's team... we will overcome...im onboard the Unai express

As always a good review Pete. However the blame for Man U second goal clearly lies with the two centre backs. Neither were in any position to deal with or challenge for the ball.
Cash only gets blamed because he actually is the only one trying to make any type of challenge. These two guys have done well for us considering they are our 4th and 5th choice’s.

    • @mattwarner8273

The performance was very good but the result and our poor finishing was bad. The injuries we have suffered this season have been very tough on us. But all is not lost. We have some winnable games coming up, we are 5th in the PL one point behind Spurs and will play them at home soon. That will be a massive game too, hopefully one that we win. And we are still in Europe. Mings & Buendia have been out all season. And Ramsey, Moreno, Pau, Digne, Konsa and now Kamara have all had long term injuries. Kamara was also suspended for 3 games after the sending off at Brentford. We are doing amazingly well this season despite all of this! Even finishing 5th or 6th would be an improvement on last season and would secure Europa League football in 2024/25. Supporters who don’t support the team and our top class coach are not supporters but whingers. Still 14 PL games to go folks. So let’s get behind our boys in claret & blue. UTV.

Great analysis Pete, you just knew it was going to happen against utd.
We can never get a break against them,l I've been going to Villa park since the 67 and we very rarely beat them even when playing well .
As for the keyboard warriors, you're allowed opinion but some of the vile things written are not constructive criticism,I just hope the players are intelligent enough to not read it.
    They are just attention seeking.
All the best and Up the mighty Villa.
