I was a merrelll guy for years. I changed to keen on my 3rd set of keen my right knee started hurting I changed to merrell and they feel great. I woulld never get a pare of steel toe in anything other than a boot.
I hate the way steel toe shoes look but. For work I climb high painted metal steps to fuel tanks and walk on alot of gravel fields with lots of elevation changes in the ground. Also steep vessel gangway and painted metal vessels decks where I have to be stable and agile at the same time. I feel like this might be a good way to goo. But man they just look so funky!

Work shoes scare me. Because of the steel swing arms on lifts. Better to have protection on the ankle than none.
