i will never forget the day i met Chester. i was at jimmy kimmel live before the show and they were rehearsing for a performance. a friend's father of mine worked for the show. i got to meet Mike, Chester and Steve Aoki. when Chester greeted my friend and I, he was the warmest person ever, so kind and clearly wanted to hear what we had to say. we told him he was a huge inspiration to us and he asked us what our favorite album was. when my friend said Minutes to Midnight, Chester replied with "good choice" and gave him a high five to fist bump. When I said my favorite was A Thousand Suns he looked at me with shock and said, "no way, thank you" and gave me high five to hug. I couldn't believe it. Easily one of the best days of my life. I love at 24:00 minutes in (roughly) where Mike goes full on dad-mode with the band. And the moment where he is like, "Chester, are you with us?" Legitimately, the dadest of dad moments.
I don’t care what fans say about A Thousand Suns, I think it’s one Linkin Park’s greatest albums ever made for how ambitious it was. It’s also my favourite album, no shame in saying that!
I admit. Didn't like it at first... but its definitely become my most played LP album... I've played it more than Hybrid Theory, Reanimation and Meteora combined and THAT'S saying something...
Hybrid theory's 20th Anniversary overshadowed A thousand Suns 10th Anniversary. A thousand Suns Kickstarted Rocktronica in the mainstream. One of the best album and most underrated album.💔
Honestly what really makes me respect more about ATS and this whole album cycle was the fact they showed the rather "crude" and negative happenings that were going on while making the album. Some bands will sweep all this stuff under the rug but LP had the balls to share the process with us, and I think, along with what Chester said at the end, it turned out for the better at the end.
You can tell the band has put a lot of work into communicating with each other. It seems like there was a time when they didn't know how to talk about their concerns and it would lead to chaos and unproductive conversations, but now everyone is saying stuff like "I feel" and "I understood ____" or "I misunderstood." Good, healthy communication.
This is one of the great things about rock music... Everyone looks like they're having a good time in the studio. Working hard but still having fun too
It hurts. Seeing Chester singing The Messenger was one of the things I didn’t wanted to see, honestly. Because after his pass, this song especially has so much power to me, it’s really hard now.
Longtime fan here since 2000. Chester's little "Rick Rubin" take on the deadline at 27:00 was profoundly accurate. You may have a label backing you and your crew, but if they are unable to comprehend what they even want out of what sounds your crew is capable of cooking up and how to ask you to even make a good or bad track, it's up to you to spit on your hands, hoist the black flag and commence to ripping through sound after sound, note after note. And bring down upon them a fire to the ears they've never heard before, and demand that they know who you are and what makes your sound your own. LP forever.
Especially because it was around The Catalyst being used for a game trailer for Electronic Arts. They must have gotten it at the last minute, and I feel like Chester pulled them out of a stressful stalemate of a situation.
I love Chester and the guys and everyone had an extremely valuable role to play, but this just reminds me how insane Mike's hustle is. The man just knows exactly what he wants to do, needs to do, and how to do it, even when no one else gets it, and he is constantly focused on how the process and the art blend to make stuff happen. All the work he's been doing this last 9 months has just shown on another level how incredible he is.
This is something I wish more bands did now, from Mikes opening where he discusses it. Albums seemed weird in the beginning that later became classics despite how challenging they were at first, no one really takes risks like that anymore. It’s a shame. I love watching this every so often as I still think to this day that ATS is criminally underrated.
How can you miss someone you've never met? I ask myself that everytime I hear his deadly beautiful powerful voice and I fall to pieces. Dude if it wasn't for linkin park I probably would've took my life too when I was young. So thank you mike, rob, Brad, mr.han and ofcourse Chester. I'm in my 30s now and I'll never stop being an LP fanatic since I was 17 till the day my time runs dry. Depression is real and it took Chester taking his life for people to realize that and that's sad. Linkin park 4 life!!!
I miss him too and think a lot of him too, and never met him... I realized it'd because music it's like a language, a language for connections and we could feel that connection with them, I still feel it everytime I listen to them therefore it makes you miss.
A Thousand Suns was your 'second' Hybrid Theory, for me. An album which seemed to be a symptom of a different time in your lives (and this reflected the change in time in my own life). Mature, thoughtful, experimental - aggressive and gritty when it needed to be; and polished and hook-ful at the same time). Was inspiring to see how politics and world-views could be channeled through sounds like that too. The abstract cover art also perfectly reflected the allusiveness of the album's different components - and I remember the joy of being a 21 year old watching the the Thousand Suns making-of DVD, and it giving me echos of what it was like to be a 12-year old watching 'Frat Party [...]' back in the Hybrid days.
This album cycle is and was probably the best one imo. The music, the art, the touring, the theme etc was very cohesive and fresh. You know an album is good/great when its content is still relevant and prominent today.
@@doublecoloured385 Brilliantly put! And absolutely on the tour! The use of the samples and monologues, and the visuals manipulated in realtime on the stage and against the audio effects - it all added a whole new dynamic to the live experience. Gave a lot of space for experimentation on stage too. It really was a complete package, and felt like it all meant something!
People love to talk about how LP changed. LP never changed. Listen up, from day one to the last song on their latest album, they have kept the soul of LP. Go ahead and listem to their lyrics from every album, listen to the power and emotion in the instrumentals they produce. It's whole heartedly LP. I love Hybrid Theory and Meteora. But Minutes To Midnight was it for me. There will never be another album from anyone as perfect as MtM. ATS is marred as the album that softened LP, but to me its the album that taught them to follow the music, not the charts and not the demands. The first time I heard The Catalyst, I knew this album would have some songs I'd listen to for the rest of my life. Deviation is seen as heresy, stagnation is seen as death. There is no middle ground and there is no appeasement. You can't please everyone. Chester confirmed my suspicions at the end of this. LP is no ones puppet and they shouldn't dance, even if the beat is funky. Keep rocking, keep vibing. Happy Holidays.
I was lucky enough to see them live when they were on tour promoting this album! After they'd played the album, me and my friends started chatting "In the End! In the End!" And the whole stadium joined us chanting! Then they left the stage, and came straight back for an encore and played In the End!!! It was the best gig I've ever been too, and my absolute favourite band of all time! RIP Chester, you were so amazing dude. So glad I saw you sing in person. And thank you to the whole band, best band ever!!!
I was lucky to see them live in Nashville. OMG! What a great show! I so miss them. But this video shows how much hard work, time and dedication it takes to create a great album. Amazing!
26:30 Chester's speech right here is so important for all musicians to hear. It's not about the destination, it's about staying true to yourself on the journey.
I will always be a fan of linkin park. No matter what, i always listen to l.p. every single day. Their lyrics are filled with so many meaning. Miss chester. But yes, l.p. lives forever. Thanks mike n band for bringing up such a wonderful band.
"When life leaves us blind...Love keeps us kind". "Holding on to what I haven't got". "Lift me up... Let it go" "Do You feel cold and lost in desperation?"
The end of the video shows Chester had balls! He never was a trend follower, he was a trend setter. What an amazing way to put it, “we are entering into a dangerous zone, which doesn’t exist in our world”
Thank you, Chester Bennington. Thank you, Mr. Hahn. Thank you, Mike Shinoda. Thank you, Brad Delson. Thank you, Dave Phoenix. Thank you, Rob Bourdon. Thank you, Linkin Park
Chester took his life 3 years to the day that one of my closest friends did... Linkin Park was the band that gave us common ground and ultimately gave rise to one of the closest friendships I've had. Everytime I hear "One More Light", I'm reminded of the loss of both 😔. RIP brothers!
@High Frequency I've no doubt it is filled with lies, but I don't doubt Chester took his own life. The vocals in LP have always had a very melancholic undertone, and I loved the music for that reason, but it indicates to me that he was in a low place for a very long time. As for Hollywood, yeah, it's fucked up, and I'm sure there is a huge amount I don't know (and probably wouldn't like to know), but I have my doubts as to whether Chester was caught up in anything like certain RUclips Channels would lead you to believe.
The most underrated albums they have. As a whole album, listening to start to finish: it is my favorite, by far. And you can just see how much hard work and the internal struggles they all went through while making this album just shows how much a great band they are.
And listening through the entire piece (as it's meant to be heard) is satisfying, awe inspiring & perfect. I discovered this album 3 years after it's release & it took me 3/4 plays before I could readjust my prejudice. After that - I was converted. My favourite LP album.
watching this is funny because you can tell Chester was enjoying himself while everybody was stressed ...he seemed just happy to be there and thats awesome..and his speech at the end was needed
This album was so revolutionary in the sense that it was totally new for LP and alot of people immediately tried to write this album off but its one of my favorite LP albums! Props to the boys for stepping out of the box and making such a creative album
"Lets stop trying to do other people wants us to do" - Chester I dont care if people saying that this album is not the linkinpark they used to know. For me this album is perfect!
yesss! all the people that say "linkin park changed" "everything after meteora is crap" can go to hell, because if they knew lp, they'd know that mixing things up and trying out new stuff *is* what they're all about and they said that themselves numerous times
I remember being 19 years old back in 2010. I took a 2 hour bus to get into the store to buy A Thousand Suns and I fell in love with the digipack version. I had so much hype for this album and besides the catalyst I haven't listen to the rest of the record when I got the album. It was such a magical trip. The way we consumed music was so different. Now is on spotify from day one but I think the magic is lost a little bit.
I agree. I mean, I do love that now I can just easily listen to whatever I want on Spotify. But it was so different back before digital music, back before streaming…if you wanted to hear an album you had to literally buy it, so you had to be selective about what you spent money on. Then those albums you bought were more precious, because they were the special ones you selected. Nowadays I think people don’t appreciate music as much because it’s so freely available.
@@TokyoBlue587Totally agree. Everything was more magical back then. But thanks to Spotify I have been able to discover bands that I have never listened before so it has its pros and cons. I still enjoy put an album on my computer and listen to it from beginning to end once in a while.

They've struggled to get this beautiful album to us and we need to really give them a lot of praise for overcoming all the difficulties! Thank you Linkin Park.
This album is so underrated, I remember people complaining and saying it was terrible. This is one of my favorite albums, I was the one that loved this album from the start and still do. 2012 was a crazy year for me, mentally exhausting and physically taxing but so many times did I play this album and just jammed out to it on repeat and just let the music and lyrics take me to a different place, and some of the stuff I was dealing with just melted away. This album is so unique that can’t be replicated, I love the artistic storytelling and I can really appreciate it on a deeper level!!!
I remember I watched this documentary in parts on YT 10 years ago when I was in high school. I loved every moment. Seeing this again put a smile in my face. It shows how human they are. A Thousand Suns is one of my favorite albums from them. Linkin Park rocks!
As someone who’s created a functioning band I admire their chemistry so much. It’s next level, it’s special they all share the same focus but still have the push and pull. This magic is as rare as a unicorn to come across.

You mean BTS?
@@LaMilice. ATS, Like the name of the album
@@didybopintitys how about BTS, the name of the Korean band then?
You can tell the band has put a lot of work into communicating with each other. It seems like there was a time when they didn't know how to talk about their concerns and it would lead to chaos and unproductive conversations, but now everyone is saying stuff like "I feel" and "I understood ____" or "I misunderstood." Good, healthy communication.
One of their most underrated album.
Its good ,but ,not epic as meteora for example
One of the best, if you ask me
The most underrated is The Hunting Party
Thank you. Hunting Party is Soo good and I don’t know why people seem to sleep on it.
I will say i love Meteora the most, but this is very good also👏
goosebumps.
@@philipsuon7109 sorry no rewards for you and also you don't need to do this

Their most underrated album in my opinion. It's so amazing. Happy 10 years, ATS
What an experience is A Thousand Suns. Absolute masterpiece.
No one can fuckin fabricate the sounds the way they did. They are incredible. There are only few bands that can make true songs now.
Brad trolling Mike is the best thing I saw in a while. :D
Honestly it’s the best part of this video

Thousand Suns is one of the most epic albums out there!! Featuring Oppenheimer's Voice and so much more. Definitely give chills still today.
Who's heart filled with pleasure and eyes with tears after watching Chester Bennington again ?😭😭
Mine. :(
Mine. But Greatful he shared his gift with us.
May Chester always be in our hearts and his free spirit will forever last❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

So who is the right hand?
Couldn't say it better
This album cycle is and was probably the best one imo. The music, the art, the touring, the theme etc was very cohesive and fresh. You know an album is good/great when its content is still relevant and prominent today.
it's absolutely my favorite album, also I never shuffle it
@@doublecoloured385 Brilliantly put!

The thought that we will not be able to listen Chester's voice again is very saddening. Miss you Chester❤️
Seeing Chester just randomly screaming around is so heartwarming
RIP you legend❤
Amazing!

Sorry for the loss of your friend, that sounds like a brutal connection to have, especially with the loss of Chester too. RIP to your friend.
My favourite LP album.
and it's the London show 2011 that makes me love the album even more
watching this is funny because you can tell Chester was enjoying himself while everybody was stressed ...he seemed just happy to be there and thats awesome..and his speech at the end was needed
This album was so revolutionary in the sense that it was totally new for LP and alot of people immediately tried to write this album off but its one of my favorite LP albums! Props to the boys for stepping out of the box and making such a creative album
"Lets stop trying to do other people wants us to do" - Chester
I dont care if people saying that this album is not the linkinpark they used to know. For me this album is perfect!
yesss! all the people that say "linkin park changed" "everything after meteora is crap" can go to hell, because if they knew lp, they'd know that mixing things up and trying out new stuff *is* what they're all about and they said that themselves numerous times
Imagine if this album would have come out this year: it could have been even more revolutionary than it was back in 2010!
Ooh yeah!

The whole album is gold.
When they first released The Catalyst I remember I didn’t like it but it later became one of my favorite songs. The whole album is a masterpiece.
