My name is Alexa Borota and I am a high school English teacher; I also taught middle school English Language Arts. I teach in a title l school in New Jersey. Teaching is less stressful when we are supporting each other and sharing' our best practices. When I was a new teacher, I wanted to know how other teachers were delivering lessons and what their classroom management routines were. I hope my content is helpful for both new and seasoned teachers.
In today's teacher vlog, I my Lasik Eye Surgery journey with you. I take you through the consultation, the price of Lasik, the day of my surgery, my Lasik recovery, and give you details I wanted given to me when I was looking into having this procedure. This video was great and informative. Thanks
You are welcome! 7-8 months later, my eyes are great and life feels easier.
This was extremely accurate lol. I think they glaze over the fact that you are going to be super uncomfortable for the first couple of hours! So thank you for keeping it real. I havent been that miserable in such a long time 😂
Tears were viciously pouring down my cheeks for the entire ride home. I felt so helpless. For some reason I started to get car sick on top of it because I was woozy and my natural instinct was to peek open my eyes, but they were burning really bad etc. When I got home, I couldnt fall asleep due to it being super early in the day. It was horrible. Once it became dark outside and I woke up from the nap, it made it all worth it. The suction thing was crazy, it felt like they were pushing my eyeball into my head but I felt no pain...just pressure. Totally recommend, as crazy as it sounds lol.
I literally feel the exact same way about why I wanted to get surgery! (I got mine yesterday.) I was thinking if there was an apocalypse I would have no chance of surviving because they wouldn't make contacts anymore and then what if my glasses broke! So glad we can relate haha!
Thank you for sharing your experience. My lasik is next week
You'll be so glad you did it! ❤️
I had my eyes done 30 years still see perfect a little dry eye I got one mono to read and other for distance no more coke bottle glasses ever best thing I ever did...
That's why my eye doctor only do Lasik during night! :)
Getting lasik in 3 days and my biggest motivation to do it is zombie apocalypse lol
I just had my Lasik done one eye then the second eye after 2 weeks now both are done and it was great. the procedure was quick one thing I did noitice is you never talked about the eye drops that were required before and after they are for pain and antibiotic, bad things can happen without them. I paid $120 for three small bottles a must have I hope your OK
Very wise, I am planning to do the same. One eye then another.
How’re your eyes now? 2 months post op?
Great! I see 20/20, the redness disappeared about 2 weeks later, and my post visit went well. I thought I’d be able to see better at night, but the lights are still XXL to me. I don’t think it’s something Lasik was meant to fix.
At night Light is blurry ?
How old were you when you had your surgery I’m 43 and I wonder if I’m too old
@@FlammingSlots-1 they do have a recommended age range because our eyes begin to regress naturally at 40/45 anyway but there was a 70 year old that had lasik recently. It can be permanent and most of the time it is permanent correction but naturally aging may occur regardless of
Thank you just was wondering what her age was at the time
Hi! Did you feel any inconsistent vision 1-2 months post op? Because I feel like that my left eye is not as clear as my right. I hope you can reply. Thanks 🥰
Hi. What a coincidence! I got my lasik 3 weeks ago. And i also experiencing what you wrote about the left eye vision is also not so clear as my right eye. Your comment is from 2 months ago. So how is it now?
@@dinam2169Hello. I still experience the inconsistent vision especially in my left eye. My doctor said that it’s still normal until 3-6 months after operation. 🙂
@@mayannabriam2880 oh…. Wel now I’m afraid that the vision of my left eye will also stay like this. I hope it will improve
@@dinam2169 just continue your eye drops. I can say that it is better now compared last month. Do you have a follow up check up after 1 month post operation? You better go so they can check you eyes. 😊
Hi, i got surgery a week ago but my left eye hasn't improved. But my right eye has 6/6 vision but not in left. Please someone suggest what gone wrong.. i m freaking out
i guess the experience is different for everyone. I just had Lasik done a week ago, i didn't feel a thing. i didnt experience getting a Xanax. lol.
How long it takes to completely be normal and getting back to job?
Were you advised to use any antibiotic eye drop or lubricant drops after the surgery? or did you have to wait a couple of days for that?
I needed lubricating eye drops...disposable ones are preferred. I used Refresh Plus and started immediately. No antibiotics.
Did you ever upload a 1 year update? What was your vision before surgery and how is it now? Thank you!
Very helpful. Thank you
Can u drive normally at night do u feel blury at night while driving
Hey hun, how much does it cost?
So I go in Friday for mine. Where I'm going is going to be giving me teylonal PM right after. And luckily for me I'm working nights right now and my appointment is at 10:15 so I'll be able to fall right away haha
I just got lasik 9 days ago and i feel the same they kept using the word discomfort and it’s more like pain my eyeballs were on fire for the 2 days after and btw i still can’t see 😩 my eyesight is still very blurry 😭 when they kept saying u should be able to see in a few days 😩
Awww I hope you are feeling better now. How are you doing now?
@@NunyaBidness1 it’s been more than a month and i can see but have trouble with small letters they still look blurry it’s insane that i still can’t see properly 😭
I had Lasik 7 weeks ago.
Pain was about a 3 to 4 out of 10 afterward. I slept as they recommended, and things got much clearer day 2, and pain was almost gone, just a little discomfort.
I hope things clear up for you soon
Hi, how are you?? Is your vision improved ?? I got LASIK’s 3 weeks ago and am hopeful my vision improves am at 20/25 now which it was what it was promised due to my astigmatism, night time I see but driving is difficult halos are common and day time driving has think it could be better idk am hopeful
@@marianadominguez8262 i’m much better thank you! It took about 7 weeks for the bluriness to go away, i had my surgery in late july and i also still struggle with the halo around lights at night as well their so much brighter than when i used contacts unfortunately 😩
Thats my fear as well!! Like something is going to happen and my behind is going to lose a contact.. I have two pair of glasses and cant find neither one so i cam only imagine what will happens if something is popping off.. lol yea im getting this done
Ohhhh
I want to do lasek becuase I exactly things you said😅
I am afraid of losing my glasses during an accident or things like that and become like blinds
So when you forced your eyes open for a sec you could immediately see better? That is so cool! ❤
What was your prescription?
How many time did you spend without having “normal” showers?, today is my 5th day since I did lasik, and not having a normal shower is killing me 😢
Please update about your result ? R U doing ok now
Yeah! Actually it was never complicated, the only bad thing is the first week because you are not allowed to touch your eyes, and when you are putting the drops on, the rest is really easy.
What was ur power??
Can i cry after the operation?
😂 i mean your eyes will be dry as sand and they do provide you artifical tears to take home. So real tears is a bonus. I am on day 3 of lasik.
@@Sskim-ue6 can you see everything clearly now? And one more thing- did you urge to blink during the procedure?
@Lona_gomez yep I can see. The dry eyes makes it difficult but it's early days and you just need to keep those eyes moist and clean. . I was driving by day 3. They use a device like a clip to keep your eyes open one by one. So, absolutely no way to blink and I didn't even feel the urge to blink. Kind of takes that need away. It doesn't hurt. I think everyone is afraid of the machine zapping your eye but for this was the least painful and most quickest. It's all Sensation after that, from the doctor doing his job. It was intense, strange but not painful. They give you numbing drops prior. I read all the scary stuff online and ignored them so I'm glad I did. Just read up reviews about the clinic and doctor before you do.
@@Sskim-ue6 thanks a lot for all these suggestions and sharing your experience.. one more thing- Did you go for traditional Lasik or SMILE?
@Lona_gomez No problem. I know the feeling of research and gaining as much knowledge beforehand is important. Took me 5 years of deciding and plucking up courage 🙃. I got ultra lasik because that was best suited for my eyes.Lasik is good to correct more types of refractive errors. So I have astigmatism and my prescription is high and I'm far-sighted. LASIK procedure: The primary difference is that a circular corneal flap is created first with a laser. No flap needs to be made during a SMILE procedure. While SMILE only treats nearsightedness and astigmatism, LASIK and PRK can treat farsightedness in addition to refractive errors caused by nearsightedness, astigmatism, and some higher-order aberrations.
Hope that helps. I did want to do smile (less dry eyes) but that wasn't possible for my eyes. All the best.
Update please! 😊👓
Does any o ne have dizziness
Did you have completely blade free lasik?
Yes
@teachingwithalexa I think it comes down to where you get it. I went to Kremer in November, and it was very successful. I only have some glare and starbust remaining.
@@BrandTheSigmaI’m going to Kremer next month for mine in DE.
Great video, i been thinking of doing LASIK but my eye doctor discouraged me by saying, I will still need eyeglasses coz LASIK only corrects vision for far and not for reading 😢 so she said why waste the money….. sad
Aw, I'm sorry. Yes, it does not correct for reading. They told me I could wear reading glasses one day.
3:16 I want lasik for the EXACT same reason! If an apocalypse happens, I’m screwed, because there will be no more contact lense or eyeglasses making factories! SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT!!!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Also my night vision worsened
The clamps hurt like snot
Hey im 15, and got mild myopia im like 20/40 do you think i should get lasik? i got prescription glasses the other day and realized how terrible my eyes are and i dont want to wear glasses do you think im too young?
I think they recommend 18-20. That is around when your eyes will stabilize.
I had to wait longer than this. I started to have myopia around 15 years old and I can finally do the surgery now (next week) at 23. You really have to wait for your eyes to stabilize otherwise the surgery can be dangerous
No surgeon will perform Lasik on you. They would be violating a lot of rules not to mention open themselves for lawsuit because your vision would get worse post surgery. They only do it on adults, because by that time your vision should theoretically stabilize, but at the same time you also consent on a paper that they slide to you. That consent is basically what allows them to avoid lawsuits if your surgery would not go according to the plan, or if your vision would worsen after some time. Your welcome. Maybe wait until you are 25 or older.
Also stop being insecure and wear glasses or contacts lenses. There's no shame in that. 1/3 of the world population are nearsighted. 1/2 or more of the world wears glasses for myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia. If you think glasses make you stand out or feel like a nerd, think again. You are not alone dealing with a likely genetic condition. Live your life to the fullest and stop giving a f*ck what others think.
@@Dom4z mute up cuh im not insecure i just dont want to wear glasses lmao
