shenmue 1 is perfect in my eyes its not big but it has loads of things to do and explore as a kid i would follow people around i even made a map showing where everyone lives i was obsessed with the game. i still play it some times just to pop in and say hi to the characters.
I can't begin to imagine the excitement that Japanese folks who lived around that area in 1999 must have felt when trying out Shenmue. Even if the game takes place in the 80's.
When I joined the military in 2004, they had us fill out a dream sheet for our first duty station. We were able to pick from five bases and Yokosuka was one. Shenmue being my favorite game, of course I picked it as my first choice.
Very well detailed video, good use of game music with splicing of gameplay. Really makes me want to visit this place. Always thought it was a dream till people made videos of it existing. What a place. Thank you for doing this. I kinda walked in ur shoes watching this 🙏
I was really fortunate back in April of 2023, I befriended some Americans in a yakitori restaurant and it turned out they were sailors! So I booked a room at a hotel near dobuita street, went out drinking with them that night and the very next day they took me on the naval base and gave me an in-depth tour, it was a great experience.
Bought my first Dreamcast this year and currently playing through shenmue (loving it) - what a great video, I wondered if it was set in a real place, but surprised now that it actually is!
Exploring this place reminds me of italy as a child, i dont know why it just does and Shenmue had so much nostalgia in living in allot of those modern places in Italy.
6:25 i don't why , because I never been in Japan , but this particular place gives me a déjà vu feeling . Maybe is because it's very similar to one place in my city

One or two times I got caught up on what one was real. Sega is still the king, and even newer games like Judgment are still at the same level of realism imo as a 1999 game.
This game should be considered as a cultural artifact. I'm obsessed.
I've been obsessed with Shenmue for years but the sequels never did it for me. Nothing beats the original.
They should do an American version of a similar town
So many sailors, 10/10
Yet nearly not enough...

Went to Yokosuka on a Japan trip in April and I’m so glad I did. They still had the Shenmue tourism maps at the information center!
That’s amazing
One day I hope to make it to yokosuka

Kind of similar to how goodsprings became famous after Fallout: New vegas in 2010.
@@theIRS1for sure. I am from Vegas and a lot of those places were very neat to see.
@@moozartney cool
I never thought I’d actually see sailors in this video.

This is the content I come to youtube for! Great work.

Fantastic! Thanks for the upload.

This video was so well-done. Great job on the comparisons.
This place for me like a second home now ❤

4:25 - Good god almighty! Are those....sailors??!?
"Are you a sailor?"
"Me? Well..."
我下次去日本一定要去这里看看,我了个去你居然找到了游戏开头那些小朋友和小猫的实景。多么美好的人生回忆。
Well done!
Is it hard to travel across Japan without knowing language?
4:30
Do you know where I can find some sailors around here?
Should have waited to the end of the video, you do now where the sailors are! This is a fantastic video btw, thank you so much :)
с любовью из россии....отличная работа...20 лет назад проходил на дримкасте и 1 и 2 части...лучшая игра для меня до сих пор...
Whoa, was there a Russian version of the game? 😲

2:28 Oh look, it's Gao Wen. 👲🏻
Great tour! I'm disappointed you didn't stop a passerby and say "Excuse me, do you know where sailors hang out?"
I said it with voice of Ryo Hazuki 😂
And then say 'Um' 😂😂😂
