I had this..it was the illegal version. I had the Licensed by Nintendo grey cartridge version of Pac -Man by Tengen as well

This version was ported to NES by Franz Lanzinger, creator of Crystal Castles, who I think it's fair to say understood dot collecting maze games by that point

I have the more expensive Namco variant, which of course has no booster option. I'll try to pick this version up before the end of the year so that I have every Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man game for the consoles I own (besides Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness).

Namco had nothing to do with Ms. Pac Man. It was created by General Computer Corporation and Midway. Midway used the Namco Pac-Man boards without permission..which Midway built under license anyways. People assume it's a Namco game..but it isn't.

By "Namco version" they mean the other Ms. Pac-Man NES game (with the green starting maze). That one Namco *did* make themselves.
