The choice to wait was 100% spot on. You should never rush something as important as how you are going to build your home. All the information you gathered in your first year will be priceless when decision time arrives.
You're so right, especially as we've never done a project on anything like this scale before. There will definitely still be tough decisions ahead, but we like to be as prepared as we can.🤞😀
I have watched since the beginning, and have nothing but admiration for you both. Sometimes you are obviously out of your depth, but you have plodded on, not letting anything overwhelm you. I would have baulked early, considering your age(apologies, I am older) and health issues, which you obviously manage well. Congratulations on your Portugese anniversary.
Loved listening to your experience so far. So much misinformation circulating about the need for planning and building permissions. Despite what some newcomers think, Portugal is not the Wild West and if you really don’t want problems, you have to get a project, just as you have done. Like you I have to demolish part of my village house and build anew. But you get to maintain some of the original that attracted you in the first place. I have a cobbled Roman laneway at the front door. I would never have had that in Australia. It takes time but the dream keeps you going❤.
You two are very brave ..... you two are very lovely couple....thank for sharing 😅😮your journey with me. I really enjoy your videos and your progress. You work so hard Good luck and Blessings Patti from Pennsylvania ❤❤❤❤
Yes some expats go full on.. without the thought of damp and the infrastructure of how to deal with the long term needs of the structure.. you are very wise as how to go forward and not be re-doing stuff in the short term.. looking forward to your plans for the property.. a labour of love I would say !! ❤
Thanks a lot - I spent a lot of time on wet days last winter just walking around and seeing where the flows were. We are close to the crown of our hill (sensible original decisions all those years ago) so flow past or through the buildings is limited, but it's still there and needs to be managed. if you haven't already seen them, I recommend skipping back to EP05 which shows some of our early experiences with the weather last winter, and EP12 where I look at the impact it was having on the room that we now sleep in so very comfortably. Some groundwork outside around the base of the wall to move the water flow away from the wall did so much good. Still a long way to go, but it taught us a lot about the basics of where we are and what we need to do.

As a portuguese (from the North) glad for having you here.
I knew it Jane, but I you have a terrific narrative voice! Someone should have you do audiobooks, and you would be brilliant!
Thank you so much. You're very kind to say so 😀

@@HotkeysPortugal it's carlos,lol.
Very wise to take the time to adapt to your surroundings before making a rash decision. After all, Rome was not built in a day!
Great video, xx
Its on comedy gold! Lol X
😂🌞🇵🇹
One of my favourite tv series at the moment. Great to visit you on location 🥰
Seriously though, it was great to see the place and all the work you have done.
Loved having you there so we could share it with you...and to force us to take some time out from our mammoth jobs list. Come back and visit any time!
