Do you still make moulds out of Plaster of Paris like my then colleagues did in the late 1970s? I've forgotten the terminology but it's very skilful and some was heavy work.
Invite them to come back, take a tour, make a video, and try their hands at making a few pieces for themselves. Maybe one of us Patrons could even have a chance to win a piece they made in the video!? 😉 Would Wedgwood allow you to be an ambassador for an afternoon, so Ben and Emily could make a video about it? I remember when Guy Martin visited Wedgewood several years ago, and created a segment in his "The Boat That Guy Built" series. (S1E1) I always recommend his fun but brief series, where he and a buddy fitted out a narrowboat. He even used a small steam engine to power the shower!
Hi guys, we were about a week ahead of you on our way to Victoria Pit, to "winter" t our narrow boat "Steve." We had no feelings of negativity, etc, between Stoke and the lake. I guess it depends on the individual, we've had some concerns in others places, only to find out from other boaters, that they've had a great time there ! I guess it depends on the day, possibly previous days and your mindset at the time. The important thing is, all is well ! Keep doing whatever makes you smile . John and Cath NB Steve.
If memory serves me correct the Macclesfield Canal serves part of the Cheshire Ring…..I did part of that forty years ago ….Rochdale Canal ….going under a skyscraper…past Old Trafford football ground and then on the Bridgewater Canal in open countryside……I think the Anderson Lift was part of this trip…great experience
Wow so much wildlife and architectural beauty. I have been following your journeys and have loved your wonderful videos so much. I do miss seeing Allan, and enjoy your gentle and loving spirits with exceptional team work. I really appreciate and look forward to your weekly videos which gives me so much comfort and peace. God bless you both with much love from Melbourne Australia 🦘❤
Sometimes we just get feelings about places, that may or not be true. An idea for you, if you ever have to leave Rambler for a short time, try putting a radio on inside ...people then think there's someone inside. Dont worry about someone shouting for no apparent reason...you guys never give anyone reason to shout! Some folk just do! Love that amazing Harefield tunnel, must seem spooky inside!! But you did it and no bumps or breakages! Benny and the log cracked me up! Love you guys! You make our day!😊❤.x
I'm watching this aboard fuelboat Alton. We're on our fortnightly run on the upper Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals. We're heading back to Bollington tomorrow (or Poynton if v busy as today) and to Lyme Green just south of Macclesfield on Monday... Flag us down if you need supplies - you'll hear our trad engine and claxon - or call in at Bollington Wharf where you can also say hi to Vic and Jo on Holly the Cafe Boat. Have a great trip and welcome to the Macc! 👍😎 PS. The Macc Canal actually starts at lock 13 (Hall Green Stop Lock).
That was Dolphin marina just after you showed the wood boat with grass roof. My brother kept his boat there for a good few years so I spent lots of time there with him. He died dec 2020 so it was a nice memory to see the place again.
Great video! I had the same feeling coming off the Trent and Mersey into the Macclesfield. It’s such a long period of concentration going through the tunnel, followed by that sharp turn and lots of boats, then a sudden change into rural surroundings with few boats.
New subscriber here. Already think Ben is a legend with his non-stop humour and Emily is so kind and interesting you could chat away for hours with you both. You make a great couple! All the best with the move and stuff and here's to it bringing you more happiness.
My Wife and I cruised the Ashby last year with my Brother and Sister in Law on their boat. We cruised (at tick over speed) past a guy who was perch fishing from the shore 2 yards away from his boat. He hadn't put his shoreside fenders down and when our boat wash knocked his fender-less boat into the side, he went off on one big-big time. Called us 'F***-wit and Tw*tt'! That is now what we are called. It was comedic in as much as this guy had a serious issue. Us laughing at him probably didn't help? 😇Some people eh? Another great video Ben and Emily, thanks.
Nice video - as usual!. Regarding those bottle kilns, unless things have changed, they fired the last one in the 1980s. I remember we were on holiday in Cornwall when I saw the news that Gladstone Pottery Museum was doing 'the last firing' and wishing we were a bit closer (I worked in a pottery for around 9 months after school and travelled to the college in Stoke, so I have a tenuous connection)
A clamp-on electric trolling motor (Minn Kota, perhaps.) and a good sized battery, would solve a lot of issues for you two. You wouldn't have to keep towing, or leaving Rambler behind all the time. In fact, you likely would never need a petrol outboard for Rambler any longer.... You can charge it's battery with your solar panels.....On a sunny day, you could probably run a trolling motor directly off the solar panels....
If you're heading up the Macclesfield, hope you'll be calling on Holly the Cafe Boat at Bollington Wharf - always lovely to see canal vloggers meeting!
Great to follow you along the route we took last year. We stayed on the T & M onto the Shropshire Union. I wasn't brave enough to go through the Harecastle tunnel so let Leon be the hero while I cycled over the top 😄. Take care x
Can’t believe how much his hair has grown 😳 i’m currently watching the videos in order and i’m a year behind when ben cut his hair like a hobit and accidentally throw the garlic bread out the window 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The caldon canal you went past is amazing at frog hall tunnel so so beautiful there there’s a pud called the holy bush inn on the way there it’s a must to visit there 👍
Loved the vlog. Congleton born and bred, now liveaboard boaters and back on the Macc until Jan. We love it and it feels like home. We’ll give you a wave if we see you.
Nasty man, I’m glad you didn’t let him upset you too much! I’m missing Alan, but glad she’s happy at your mums. Lovely canal, so nice and peaceful and picturesque after Stoke. It’s a shame the pottery buildings are being left to rot. My mind is working overtime trying to think what the change could be!
A new perspective on canal life. We owned a boat a few years ago and used it when we were in the country. Excellent life, especially when outside of those 'edgy areas'. Sadly, I can see harassments and criminality getting worse. Nice homes on the water are an easy target. Anyway, all the best to you and young Dumbledore. (respect)

But hey.... have to ever thought of getting a little puppy... that would be awesome.... thank you for this weeks Vvlog thou loved it.

Something really odd about that place. We did the four counties ring in June and we got held up for 2 days due to a stoppage. Apparently someone thought they saw a hand in the canal so they closed a large section to search the canal. The part it happened was just where you were when you were talking about whether to leave Rambler or not. We were moored up stuck next to the plume of feathers so it could have been worse lol. The Stoke section was the only part we felt a bit concerned from the whole trip. Even the moored boaters were a right miserable bunch. I went through harecastle a few months back and I crashed into the side half way through and it filed down the corner of my boat a bit, was crazy. Look forward to more of the Mac , I went up the caldon
