As “The Curse” prepared to air its second episode on Showtime and Paramount+, its co-creator and star Nathan Fielder participated in an irreverent marketing stunt that could have been ripped straight from a “Nathan for You” episode.
In a new promotional video that was shown before “The Curse” trailers on Instagram, Fielder and his co-star Emma Stone recreated a similar pre-trailer video that Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell previously released for their upcoming Sony rom-com “Anyone but You.” The original video shows Sweeney and Powell flirtatiously arguing about who the real star of the enemies-to-lovers film is, before reluctantly agreeing that it’s “our movie” and introducing the trailer. Fielder and Stone recreated the dialogue verbatim, but added a healthy dose of Fielder’s trademark awkwardness.

Sydney just keeps getting set up by her agents. She’s clearly got talent, but she’s never the best actress on any set, nor do the roles she’s being given as of late actually play to her strengths as an actress. Her range is more along the dark & serious lane, as opposed to romcom lead or action hero. I think she’d have a better time with the indie/grunge movies that have a more serious tone and layers to the characters.
Unfortunately, Sydney and Glenn seem to have more chemistry off-camera than on-camera in terms of Anyone But You. I feel like this film will fall into the long line of modern adaptations of classic literature that just doesn’t hit the mark in terms of quality. I hope I’m wrong, but we’ll see.

    3 things:
    1. The movie is based on "Much Ado About Nothing" by Shakespeare, and, as someone who has read the play and watched the Keanu Reeves adaptation, the story of the movie makes SO much sense now. (Update: Not me realizing their names are Ben and Bea after Benedict and Beatrice smh)
    2. Sydney is clearly talented, but comedy just may not be her thing, which is COMPLETELY fine. Glen clearly seems to be more comfortable with the role, mainly cuz he's done a lot of comedies (long live Chad Radwell).
    3. IDC if the movie is trash, Glen's gonna be naked in it a lot, so ye im gonna see it. Don't understand why this is important, watch the end of the trailer.

Her first roles as a child actress were in crime shows so her roots are definitely in more serious stuff. If the way she was when we were like… 12? is any indication of how she is now, she’s also not a loud, animated person. The Sydney I knew was extremely down-to-earth and laid back. I really liked Anyone but You. Sidney can pretty much play anything she wants, any different sort of roles, doesn't have to be stuck in one thing. It's smart for actors to go for the star lighter roles and then go for the more meaningful smaller flicks. It's a balance, really.

yessss her performance in euphoria season 2, ESPECIALLY that one scene where she and nate are having a screaming argument in his bedroom, is so intense and she does it so well. like she can really capture that crazy look in her eyes and face and she needs to either get a better agent or choose movies that are more on that thriller or horror side. i feel like she would be sooo amazing in thrillers like randomly the first one that came to mind is a quiet place. she has so much potential for that genre!

She is a very talented lady but I just always question the projects she gets cast in. I thought she was miscast in Euphoria, then again in White Lotus and so on and so forth.

Having seen Mia Goth in Emma before anything else it’s amazing to see that she’s so great in horror films because she also played sweet and innocent and very understated emotions so well in that movie haha

I get wanting to experiment with her acting. I just don't think when it comes to comedy that this is the right path for her to take. She should have taken supporting roles first so she can build up a skill set in the genre.

Well Emma Roberts isn’t taken seriously as an actor and doesn’t have half the talent that Sydney does. So people are critiquing because the choices that young actors make will shape the rest of their career and hers have fallen flat. See Jacob elordi and Zendaya’s great choices for comparison

Maybe her bestie Maude needs to help her out, get her in a room with the right people. With all her nepo baby sway, and her dad's own direct influence in the industry, I'm sure Maude knows someone who knows someone who can better get Sydney the roles she's best suited for.
Also, she should maybe talk to Alexa Demie & Zendaya on the things they've learned from their stylists, bc wow pls she can't always be this underwhelming for every event.

Thank you!!! Exactly , she has incredible dramatic chops , not everyone can do rom-com , not everyone has to , there’s a specific type of air someone needs to have for a rom-com or comedy , Sydney is an incredible talent for art house / dramatic movies , if I was her manager I’d push her for movies like napoleon or if they want a blockbuster , the upcoming gladiator sequel , 2 comedy leaning movies back to back may not do what’s best for her career

I just watched Anyone But You (guilty pleasure, I suppose). That was my first time being "exposed" to Sweeney. She definitely isn't a natural at bright and bubbly. She has more Kat Dennings vibes. Her characters need to be dark and sarcastic but not necessarily malicious. She has a bit of a naturally dark voice. It sounds very forced if she's meant to be playing a bright character.

She seems like a beautiful “mean girl” who always got everything she wanted. She plays variants of the “mean girl” role well, and can do big emotion moderately well since that’s quite easy for any actor. She cannot do comedy, pathos, subtlety, kindness, and so on. She is not a versatile or especially talented actor. She is eye candy with a supercilious air.
What else is there to discuss?

  • @myanna9433

While I agree that she is talented it’s important to remember that she is taking these roles because she generally believes she is the best choice till she takes a step back and chooses to play to her strengths she will continue to be miscast agents can advise but at the end of the day its her who has the final say

i remember seeing her in a minor role in sharp objects and she was honestly so good; even tho her character was minor, she was genuinely one of the most memorable aspects of the entire show to me. i really hope to see her in more dramatic and sophisticated roles in the future
