1. Almost ANY fuel pressure will get fuel to the rail. Problem is, the injectors can't (and aren't intended to) open long enough to flow low-pressure fuel in sufficient quantity needed to sustain combustion. Injectors are intended to flow sufficiently AT A SPECIFIED PRESSURE, that's why we have fuel pressure regulators which on the E46 are integral with the fuel filter under the driver's side of the car. 2. Inadequate fuel delivery can also result from a clogged fuel filter OR from a failing fuel pressure regulator OF a break in the vacuum line from the intake elbow to the fuel pressure regulator. 3. Know also that a car which seems to crank strongly but not start, can merely be a bad battery that doesn't have enough amps left over from starting to activate the ECU. Don't automatically assume (as I did) that the $170 fuel pump is at fault when it was actually a $150 battery.
This happened while I was driving… shut off and suddenly won’t start. I hope it is just the filter because I replaced the pump not that long ago. I think it might be the pump in my case though because I am not hearing it prime.
@@LaRosa.Racing I just tested the pressure and it makes no pressure when turning the key. I hooked up a voltmeter to the pins in the fuel pump connector, and it gets 12v as expected when turning the key. I was really hoping for just a relay 😂 It sucks because I replaced the pump and filter like a year ago. It’s a Bosch unit, I would have expected better of it-I keep it above half tank so it’s not like it’s overheating. Looking to see whether it has a warranty. If other people have problems with Bosch units, I will likely get it direct from BMW. I will be replacing both the pump and filter again and I’ll let y’all know if it’s fixed lol
My car not working 330d E46 2004 In the morning a lot and not working Sometimes it work And when it works it fly super super very fast no problem at all Could you tell me why please Since two months I bought it it was fantastic super nice Then since 3 days this happened ( AA ) look at it says ( ECM ) in the computer Now we Check with mechanic he says no He says Diesel must be ( 2500 psi ) it shows ( 1800 psi ) But he says when the car work it is very very fast no problem at all So he says I don’t think it is the diesel pump Please help me with this
I replaced the fuel filter and the pressure went down by 4 psi, it's doing the same thing yours is doing starts up fine but when I press the gas it dies
@@JesusHernandez-hv2bs it was the fuel filter, even though the fuel filter was previously replaced and this failure happened some time later, i thought it was the fuel pump, but I replaced the fuel pump and nothing changed, so I ended up trying the fuel filter again with a new one and it worked. Let me know how it goes.
So you prob fixed this when you took the manifold off but your valve cover vent hose, right in front of the fuel rail is obviously disconnected, you can see the o ring lol. Thats why you were having starting issues.

Hello. Great video, but please link to the adaptator please?
Great video mate

Have you checked running psi ? Before the fix
I'm having problems with my e46 320d, bad/erratic idle, and random misfire and power loss
Chris! Can we get some details on the rail adapter you used?
Get this exact fuel pressure tester at harbor freight - I’m getting mine tomorrow

Most likely the pump/other issue. I’d be surprised if the filter was completely blocked cutting off all fuel. Circle back and let us know!

It was the pump in my case. VDO/Continental is the OE pump. Make sure to get that one, the Bosch pump didn’t even last 2 years/20,000 miles.

Did you solve it bro?? I’m about to change my fuel filter and pump too
