Roth was the greatest rock front man ever. Unique voice, great song writer, played 3 instruments, write some of rock's most prolific songs, made great videos, owned the crowd, athletic, great stage presence, black belt in 2 martial arts, platinum records, millions sold, intelligent, well cultured, well traveled, the screams, kicks, jumps, women went nuts for him. Just an extremely interesting dude.

Diamond Dave is ABSOLUTELY his own worst enemy! It seemed obvious that he needed an anchor to keep him grounded, left to his own devices, he just spiraled out into the ether. The Eat 'Em and Smile band worked together and put out an incredible record, but then Dave wrote Skyscraper and beyond without them and it all fell apart. He needs an editor!

The reason why David Lee Roth matters is the same reason for why for any artist matters.
The perennial question is: How does their artistry make you feel?
For many, DLR is more than a songwriter, singer, entertainer and performer.
His art and his life represent the potential within each of us, but the actuality of few.
Thus while Dave has achieved iconic artistic success, his true impact has actually become for many, as a life coach.
I am quite certain this was NOT his original intention, but life a has way of taking us down circuitous paths.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm getting hungry and it's time for lunch. Somebody suggested I try the Quad Burger over at Irv's. 🤣

I've been enamoured with David Lee Roth since the early '80's and still read anything about him I can find. Looking forward to reading this book too. In my eyes Dave is the most interesting man in the world. I love him! Always have, always will...

Well, don't forget the big Grunge tidal wave that hit in the early 90s that threw all of the current rock bands/rock stars for a loop. It threw many off of their usual game.
Personally, I wish DLR would have left well enough alone, and not rejoined VH in 2007.

While Van Halen may have underachieved, from ‘78-‘84 they had one of the greatest runs in rock music, save The Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Yup. They almost ruled the world. Strangely it was the Police that became the next Beatles in terms of tickets sold, record sales, etc.

You can matter in historical terms.
You can matter, but still be irrelevant.
You can matter, and still be an a******

I think Dave is unique. I picture a gig that includes a mood setting conversation that leads into a ripping song. His Ringo-style band could have infinite options

Started off great with DJ Lance Rock, then it was gradually downhill from there. Heidi, you're a very peculiar woman.

Frontman is not only vocals. Those guys are better singers but, as frontmen? None of em can hold a candle to what DLR did. Not even close.

Not sure why they needed to slam Sammy Hagar. At the time of the book Red, his VH had sold more albums. Dave coming back and Eddie passing away sold an immense number of reissues of the original albums.
And, up until Hagar, VH was an American band that did not do well abroad.
I love both versions of VH.. but calling SH a liar is not right. He may have his perspective. But he wasn't lying

Sammy’s era did NOT sell more than Dave’s. Dave bookended his original run with 💎s
