Rock n Roll Grad School #173 Sheri Miller on "Think!" and Earth Day
My piano hero! I can't believe that he's been gone for three months. His work will always live in my heart!❤
Saw them in Anaheim on Nov 22. Awesome talent.
Damn, I feel bad for Jim. Seems like he goes about stuff the right way, doesn’t try to do it behind anybody’s back. Glad he is doing his thing
Great conversation with Bob. The story of the family, the background, their history, each of them with their own path but eventually ending up together making great songs. Thanks for posting
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
Jim's the man.
Rest In Peace Screamin Scott, thank you so much for the friendship and the music!
RIP Scott Simon 12/9/48-9/5/24
How can this topic be rendered boring? I’m gobsmacked.
Saw RK at Maxwells once and Ann joined them for the Yoko Ono cover/encore/freakout. It was psychedelic godhead.
Brave is simply brilliant.
Sid should have joined the band as rhythm guitar, so could do his thing and be Johns mate, and kept Glen to actually play. Glen was kicked out for being a normal guy who didn't get smacked up, so why didn't they replace Paul?? Malcolm wanted the band to implode.
aw, Ann Magnuson always the best secret celebrity, LOVE her
❤❤❤❤❤
oopsie ! Somehow I missed this..But enjoyed it. Yes ! My friend Kristi had not heard of Sparks when I saw them last summer. And since we were early to wait to get in. we were surrounded by people who went way detailed into Sparks and their music.Later Kristi said " here I was , with you and all those Sparks fans and you were keeping up with this entailed conversation about Sparks and I was looking back and forth ,nodding my head, quietly and thinking...I have no clue what they are talking about" LOL !
Great interview, never imagined we'd ever hear from her, she's always been this mystery person that put out some music then dropped off the face of the earth, with little to no information about her left behind. The only other thing I'd like to have heard from her is about Noel & The Red Wedge and their Peer Pressure album, would certainly like to know the story behind all of that, its the only other music I've seen come from her.
Monte rocks!!
I have had a deep conection to New Model army since i was a kid in the 80s/90s its be reignited after seeing them again this year.Still relievent of the times and the only songwriter that can be so honest without being cheesy. I wish them all the best and thank you
Great show, I could listen to Monte talking about Sparks all day every day. Time for me to deep dive into Rock n Roll Grad back catalogue
Thanks for having Monte on your show! He's a super-nice Sparks superfan, and he's adding a lot to the discussion and appreciation of the ever-artful, ever-entertaining Ron and Russell Mael. Viva Sparks!
It was a great honor to chat with you both! Thanks for the opportunity and now let's get you on to my show!
Great album! It really shows how good adepts Ron and Russell were while working with Giorgio Mormoder. They must have picked up every word the man said and every move he made😅 What not many people are aware of, is that Ron and Russell have produced other artists, in various music styles, since then. Not any well known names, probably to be supportive and help careers to take off. Mostly very quietly. (Perhaps a way to please carma, I'm thinking about how Todd Rundgren took on them? Just a thought I've had for a while. And of course Noël! Also Christie Haydon.) It has nothing to do with Noël, but for a long time I have wondered if they knew about Klaus Nomi (well they must have), and their opinions on him. Ann Magnuson was the one who brought him into the Vaudeville. She played Greta Garbo in the, originally for radio, musical 'The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman' at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2011. Kristian Hoffman, from southern California, a member of Mumps in NY, was a good friend of Magnuson (they have worked together a lot during the years), who became a sort of 'musical director' for Nomi, also wrote some songs for him. In 2002 Hoffman recorded the album '&', where he had invited other singers and musicians to perform with him. Track no. 1 is 'Devil may care', together with.. RUSSELL MAEL. Producer of that song is no one less than, ta-taa! Earle Mankey, well known for Sparks' audience as the original guitar player in 'Halfnelson'/'Sparks' two first albums 'Halfnelson' (re-issued 'Sparks') and 'A Tweeter In A Woofer's Clothing' (also on the demo-album that is called the same, for a reason nobody seems to know). People say "the music industry is smaller than you think", well that's true about Sweden, but America? I find those things interesting coincidences😅
Go back and tell them I think they are fantastic ,this is actually the realm that I know well... my whole family love this era and we believe there's more to come
brilliabt interview thankyou all 3 and thanks to justin & freinds , you hav kept me sane for forty yrs ♥
he also done it because the rest of you are just Journeymen .........great but nowhere without him
I always loved listening to Mark talking, it's always informative and fun. Thanks for the great interview & long live Marillion 💕
Fabulous band
Brave polarizing? I don't think so. I don't know any Marillion fan who would hate it. It's another masterpiece of the boys.
Thank you for featuring one of the best bands in the world :)
Nice interview folks 👍🏻
I had the album by Noel and the Red Wedge called Peer Pressure and it was great. Frankie Banali was the drummer on that record. I’m writing this comment before I watch and hear the interview because I want to mention how happy I am about it. I’m looking forward to it and I will watch now. 👍🙂
Great interview! I do a podcast about Sparks, and we've done a couple of episodes about Dancing Is Dangerous, but I had no idea how to get in contact with Patricia. Do you think you might be able to connect me with her? Keep up the great work!
The angels in this world are not on the walls of churches The heroes in this world are not in the hall of fame CARE ...................album: "An Hour Before It's Dark" (2022)
Marillion ...Criminally Underrated
Thanks for a great interview...enlightening and fun. I admit to being a Johnny come Lately as far as this album is concerned but I love the coupling of Ron's brilliantly witty lyrics and Noël's beautifully rich singing voice. A number one marriage made in heaven😉♥️
Saw the Suffrajettes end of tour show in Hamilton , Ontario with Rev. Heat. It was a smashing show. After a 20 show tour , it has to be a tough grind. Kudos to a hard working band. This was an excellent interview, thank you guys .
Thanks for this. At the time of the original release, there was some attention for her in the UK, but in the rest of the world, the album was widely ignored. I've always considered this a proper Sparks album.
Like most people I haven't heard of Noel until that premiere announcement from Sparks of all people popped in my RUclips feed. Now I know why... Thank you Sparks for finally giving her the recognition she so deserved for so long!
This album is such a masterpiece and a perfect accompanying piece to No 1 Song in Heaven. I'm thrilled that Ron and Russell decided to re-release this and what a privilege to hear Noel speak about her time working on this.
My heart is so f-ing full between the cd/streaming release, the video, and this is just so deluxe. I have loved this record since i first discovered it back in the early 80s and it never failed to lift my mood.
Hopefully a better CD remaster of Noel's 2nd album "Peer Pressure" via her band Noel & the Red Wedge happens now.
Incredibly creative and talented band. Been following their careers for a few years now and am blown away with their chops and attention to detail. They work SOOOOOOOO hard and I really admire that. Got a chance to finally see them this May and they put on a great show, and were warm and friendly before and after meeting fans.
What an utterly delightful interview with this wonderful singer. It was such a shame that the original release wasn't supported, but it is just great that Noel finally gets some of the recognition she so richly deserves. How marvellous that there is such a sense of fun in recollection, generosity to all the other musicians who worked on the album - and no pique! And such props to Russell and Ron for redressing the balance. I hope it sells well.
Wonderful!. Thanks so much. 💙
Fantastic. We love Noel!! ❤️💙❤️💙
Great interview. Justin Sullivan comes across as a very unique human being. I have loved New Model Army's music for decades and think they are a one off, completely unique band. They have NEVER made a bad album probably because they don't obsess about making great ones! The process of making the most recent album is very interesting with the tracks basically being the demos. I think Unbroken is possibly their finest album, certainly right up there with Thunder And Consolation and already one of my all time favourites. Superb 😁
See ive not listerned to anything after impurity !!!! im gonna listern o broken now !!! to be honest when they did love of hopeless causes for some reason i sold my cloggs in a childish huff but i actually listern to it now and think why???I guess its just being an idiot kid .My loss !
What a great interview ! I saw them last weekend at Bearded Theory (UK - Derbyshire) festival - they still sounded amazing. Green and Grey is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Rick Parker is Laura Parker's son, who was in the 1960s Dark Shadows
Saw them outside of Cleveland 2 years ago with my older daughter. Missed them last year, way too busy! Taking both my girls to see them outside of Buffalo in a few weeks, can't wait!
USA has a bad reputation. Haha cool interview, great band!
Nice interview…great act. Really has their package together. Just hilarious they are from Toronto!! 😂🤣 I learned to surf in Toronto.
Really . Learned to surf in Toronto? Where.Haha 😂
