  • Do decoys really make a difference? I think so, but my buddy challenged me to a contest - Decoys vs. no Decoys on late season California ducks.
    We hunt public land here in central ca, which is highly competitive. By the time the birds get to us, they have migrated through 3 states and two different countries. is jump-shooting the best way to go, or is a classic decoy setup still the most effective way to have success.

      For sure. :) It doesn’t matter how good you are. Just how good you look.

      @@BadAtHuntingI agree we can’t let the ducks think we are poor.

    When he walks back and says “limit of scaup” he’s holding a ring neck. Just a heads up

    • @BadAtHunting

      Yeah, my buddy was just trying to mess with me that day. :)

    • @BadAtHunting
      @BadAtHunting  Год назад

      @sorryimjustsorry thanks man. But he was only trying to mess with me. We both knew it was a ringneck, but he was trying to pass it off as a scaup, so he could have his ‘limit’.
      The rest on the conversation was cut out from the final video.

    I like your video , the guy who says no decoys and get birds very true
    If i position within 100 yards of another hunting set up ,then i can use that set up ,taking advantage . I dont use decoys or calls ,only a river tube for deep water. I shot a limit of geese within 10 minutes last year in September by only being in position , i didnt even use waders because it was 60 degrees. Just jump in the water ,get wet ,and retreive the birds, go home. It was a shallow gravel pit that hunt every season, so it helped to already be confident and just run n gun a quick hunt.

    For late season i go no spinners and very little decoys 6-12 maybe. I also use a Duck butt pulsator to get some water motion seems to work pretty well.

    • @BadAtHunting
      @BadAtHunting  Год назад

      I’ve heard mixed reviews about the pulsator. How do you like it? Is it reliable?

    Just FYI gentlemen if you do your scouting and go hunt where ducks naturally want to be you never have to use decoys or call! Been killing limits for 20 years just setting up where the ducks naturally want to go feed. Like the old saying keep it simple stupid.

      @BadAtHunting  21 день назад

      For sure - if you can find them, that’s always the best. We hunt public land in CA that has hundreds of guys spread all over it. You don’t always get the spot you want.

    For your drake call get a whistle call and just sit in your house and practice

    • @BadAtHunting
      @BadAtHunting  Год назад

      Yeah for sure. I’m going to need to spend more time this offseason practicing. Any tips on how to do it better?

    sucks that cali didnt have a good season MS didnt either until the last two weeks we killed 200 birds in a week but when you sequence call try changing your notes up instead of the repetitive quack

    Dude is a 🤡. That’s a ringneck & limit on scaup is 2.
    To improve at calling, one must put in time & practice. Not just going to magically happen overnight 😅

      Thanks for the heads up. He knew what it was. He was just trying to mess with me- to say that he got his ‘limit’.
      Obviously most of the conversation was cut from the video- since you can’t keep everything from 4 hours of filming in an 8 min video.
