  • Whenever I thought about California, the only thing that came to my mind was Disneyland and the beach. I was so wrong and feel I’ve missed out on some of the best parts of California.
    When we drove into the Sacramento Valley full of farmland and agriculture my mind was completely blown. I was amazed by the rural farm land and the thousands and thousands of waterfowl hopping between the flooded rice and several state refuges. It was a welcome sight for my first trip to California.
    We got to see it all. From rice fields to flooded willows in the Sacramento Valley along side some local old timers that still act like they’re 12 when the birds are doing it.
    We rallied our mud boats on the delta marsh with some young bucks that were super amped to show us their playground. And lastly Ben showed us the infamous “ sweat lines ” and marsh races of the the public refuge system.
    The idea a lot of folks share, not being any hunting in Cali, will be drastically changed after watching Chapter 2 of The Chase for 41. We can't wait to share this journey with you!

    Good video, gave a view of 3 different aspects to enjoy waterfowling in California. Couple things.....1) With California Type A public areas shown, hunting is allowed 3 days a week (Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday) "Kings Holidays" as it was initiated many centuries ago in Europe. Weekends of course will be crowded, but stick 5 days worth of hunters into Wednesdays (plus hunt all day) you will be overcrowded. 2) California is currently No.1 in duck hunting, No.1 in goose hunting, can shoot 10 dark geese a day (specks or Canadas) in most of the zones, raises 70% of the mallards harvested, and is No.3 in mallard harvest for 2017-18 season. 3) Like what Mr. Cole said....."Ducks have been conditioned to feed at night, so I take advantage of them loafing in the day". Giving birds a break in the afternoon changes that DRAMA, but gotta be statewide.

    • @HUNT41
      @HUNT41  5 лет назад +1

      Jon you have done your research and I appreciate this info! Public areas in CA are busy in general, but doesn't mean you can find a spot to enjoy for yourself. Plus its good to see that there is a strong hunting presence in a state like CA. Our dark goose limits are pretty nuts.. Thanks again for the word!

    Love the vids, but giving away location-specific information on people's favorite public hunting spots is straight amateur hour! • @HUNT41
      @HUNT41  5 лет назад +1

      Hey man thanks for watching and glad you like them. Sorry I don’t think I understand what gps coordinates your referring too. Everywhere we hunted where common public hunting spots minus the Sutter basin. We would never want to ruin someone’s spot so if you feel we did sorry we didn’t mean to offend you. Thanks for following!

    • @cowboycrna2811
      @cowboycrna2811 5 лет назад +2

      @@HUNT41 Nah, guys.. I'm not offended. But if you came to my home state and said you're hunting such-and-such lake or WMA/refuge, I would most definitely be upset. Yeah they're "common public hunting spots," but the competition is fierce enough with the people who have put in the hard work and time to figure these places out on their own, much less when people can watch a simple video and you led them straight there. Understand I'm not saying you're leading people to the exact hole you're hunting, I'm referring to the fact the video tells the exact refuge you're hunting, and yes, I know that seems broad but it looks like that parking lot is full enough without an easy cyber-scout adding to it. Seems it would have been easier to just say, "near San Franciso" or just "California" for that matter. Anyway.. Just food for thought on future vids from someone who has been burned one too many times on public land from the interwebs... keep up the great content!

      I've lived in CA for 35 years and have 25 seasons under my belt here. It's a far cry from what it was. Idaho and Washington keep more and more of our ducks each year with all the corn and lack of true cold temperatures. Couple that with the rape of the Klamath basin, multi million dollar clubs/sanctuaries and our migration/hunting worsens every year.

    • @HUNT41
      @HUNT41  5 лет назад

      Hey Robert thanks for watching the episode and hopefully we are not coming across as ratting each state on how productive it can be for a hunt, but more so looking to just tell solid waterfowl stories. End of the day we are all just looking to have a good time in the field no matter what that hunt provides.

    • @jonclark9757
      @jonclark9757 5 лет назад +1

      @@robertwagner4375 Well, am 62 and been duck hunting since I was 11, so yeah......seen good times and bad. Washington and Idaho taking ducks from California? Ah, sorry, Hoss......70% of the mallards shot in California are raised in California and Southern Oregon. Washington has their own mallards, and so does Idaho. In fact, for 2017-18 season, California, Oregon, and Washington were No.3,4, and 5 for most mallards harvested.
      What about geese, Robert? Back in the day, could you shoot 10 darks per gun per day? As for big elite clubs, California has always had such....so, complain if you like, but for myself....opportunity awaits.
