Braces look great Ian! I'm so glad your teeth will get straightened out. Getting you out of discomfort from the crowding, besides the discomfort of having braces. I had braces and didn't like it much, but did it so I could have nice straight teeth. I'm glad I did it! I think you will be too! I love your faux hawk too! Lookin' cool Ian! Growing up so fast! I'm so proud of the way you were able to explain how you feel about the braces. Great job Ian! ❤️
I wonder if Ian will get braces on the bottom I mean they do look a little bit crooked
@@jofiavlogs22 no they aint xd
Hey Ian and the Autism Family, I just finished by Orthodontist treatment a few weeks ago, which means no more braces! I agree with what Ian said about the kind of soreness a little while after you get your braces put on and tightened at each visit. Keep in mind, in the end you will feel no pain and you will have an even better smile than you had before. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for that last part about keeping in mind that in the end there will be no pain. I just got braces and an expander myself and it still hurts a bit.
Clara B. In the beginning it can be a little hard adjusting. I like to eat certain foods, like Ian, and they didn't quite feel the same way in my mouth as they did before. But with braces, it's all about adjusting. Your teeth adjust to the way the braces are trying to move your teeth to make them straighter, and you have to adjust to the way braces feel. I hope you continue adjust to your braces and that you have a Merry Christmas. Good luck!
Happy Christmas to you all
Can you please make a Christmas Day video then please thanks
Hi family! Thanks for the nice video. I had a brakes, too, Ian. When I was 12 years old. Long time ago and a long time before I knew about my autism. I had my braces for one yearr. And than the dentist take the braces out. I have now a very good dentist. He is also good with people with special needs. Good job, Ian. And what you say about a braces, is true. And for mom Brittney and dad Robert, it gonna be all right with Ian and his braces. I'm proud of you, Ian. A big hug from the Netherlands. 🇳🇱😃❤️🇺🇲
Thank You! My Autistic child is 13 and just her braces a couple weeks ago also. I would love to see more of Ian caring for his braces. From one child with Autism to another would be very helpful.
Handsome young man and very polite. God bless your family and have a wonderful holidays.
I have braces too. My least favorite part was when they put the cement on my teeth before they put the brackets on and they had to use the drill and it caused my sensory issues because it vibrated my mouth. But other than that it was okay. And I'm glad you got braces. They look great on you Ian. Keep up the good work. I know it's tough but you've got this. And merry Christmas to you all
The braces look great, Ian! I’ve gotten braces before when I was 12, and I remember watching many videos on braces to prep myself, and my orthodontist prepping me as well. And the whole the braces will hurt after a while is very true and I also had an office that had a row of chairs except for when you go in to get impressions. I remember when I got braces, I was also provided accessories including a new electric toothbrush but didn’t have a currency system, but I did get a nice treat when my braces got off since it was two days after my birthday. I hope you guys have a smooth braces journey, and they’ll be off before you know it!
Ian Braces look great, eating foods that gets stuck in them. Your family knows how to handle your kids when it comes to the dentist. Ian is very smart teenage who knows a lot about how to handle his braces.😊😊😊
I understand that it is hard for someone on the spectrum when it comes to dental. I am on the spectrum and was diagnosed at a very young age. I remember running out after the dentist had a large needle and showed it to me. I screamed and ran out into the waiting room and ran around my mom screaming help me. She said she knew that I had to have a special dentist. She found one that specialized in patients with autism. Even after my parents got divorced she had to find one in the new city which we moved to which was also in another state. There are dentist out there that specialize in patients with autism. They are gentle and caring when it comes to treating us. I don't like to see anything going on in my mouth. Plus I hate needles so he has to play with my lip to take my mind off of the needle. I am glad that Ian is able to talk about his experience with getting braces. I am 51 and I still have problems when I go to the dentist.
aawww, the way Ian's face lit up when you brought up vouchers and shakes ❤
Hi! I just found your channel. I am also on the spectrum. I love your videos! Thanks for giving the world this important content and education! Congratulations Ian! You can be very proud of yourself. I have major problems at the dentist. When I was little I was kicked out of one dentist office because I have bitten the dentist. On that day I was very scared and the dentist forcefully tried to open my mouth after explaining the procedure and I panicked and bit him. Note to parents that have children on the spectrum, please make sure to find a dentist that has the patience to take their time and being understanding with your child's situation. Have a great day!
We're on the "same ship" Ian. I got both Braces and an Expander on the 13th. It still hurts a bit and I am still getting used to it myself. I said that getting braces was a "Christmas gift" from my orthodontist. Good luck Ian!
Your videos have been so helpful. Not just for me as the parent but for my child to watch. Having the boys give their prospective helps my son immeasurably.
Ian is such a cutie. If he is ever on social media, he and my son should be friends. They’re so much alike.
Looking great, Ian! Thanks for this video, so helpful for our family.
I had braces for 2 years, What we did not to have me be in too much pain was just have me get the top set on and then later on add the bottom set as to not overwhelm me. All I really needed done was I had a tooth on the bottom that had to be pulled forward and I had a gap in my teeth, the best feeling is when you get them off, I've had mine off for 14 years and I think it saved my self-esteem.
I also have autism and it’s nice to see you making videos about it
Great Job!!!!! So proud of you Ian!!!!! God Bless!!!!
Mine was with shot's. I would worry going into it and be so wound up it wasn't going in. My parents tried to restrain me and it worked me up more. I am just so impressed with how far Ian has come.
Thank you for sharing your experience Ian!!
If you want to eat gum, you can. you just need a curtain brand. The brand is called FreeDent. It's non-stick gum and it comes in two flavors, Spear Mint and Peppermint.
Ian you did great. Congratulations 🎉🎉 your teeth will be really nice when the braces come off.
Hi Autism Family. I wanna give Ian information/advice about braces.I have them too and sometimes when you eat certain foods, the wire moves and it can start to poke/hurt your mouth.(I know cause this happens to me).So my advice(Although Im not good at giving advice) is to try and be careful because sometimes when you think that you can eat certain foods, you actually aren’t supposed to eat them. For example, things like apples or carrots even if they are cut into small pieces, burgers too.
By the way,I don’t have autism but I have OCD and ADHD(I’m 11) and my brother, age 10, also has ADHD and we both love to watch your videos and think that they are helpful/interesting.
That is true about cutting things into small pieces. I got braces and an expander the other week as well.
Thank you for making this video! Great tips! You guys are awesome!
I had braces for four years and it was awful in the beginning. That first day was rough. I remember crying and wanting to get them off. By the way they always tell you there are certain foods you can’t eat but nobody follows the rules. My friends and I would eat anything. Just have to brush really good after.
We live in a hole called Galax Va. We are struggling to find an orthodontist what knows how to work with a child with autism and severe anxiety. I also find that no one understands. The initial attempt to get braces was a company called myorthodontist. Unfortunately, I actually witnessed a technician at her computer rolling her eyes at us and it was very very painful emotionally.
Perfect timing. My 6 y/o has never been to the dentist before. I’m terrified of the meltdown. He’s really good at opening up and letting me help him brush, but he’s got a cavity and I have no idea how he’ll react to a stranger and a strange environment. I keep hearing about dentist offices insisting that parents wait in the waiting room and that’s just NOT going to happen. 😱
I’m trying to get him interested and excited to visit the dentist. It’s totally an act on my part.
My son too is going to need braces, I was told by the dentist that my son had straight baby teeth and plenty of room . So now his adult teeth are coming in slow lol they have grown in outward? I always prepare my son for every doctor or dentist appointments. Thank you for sharing Ian but after your braces are done you will have beautiful teeth.
Hey Ian, I had braces on my teeth from August of 1986 to May of 1989!
Ian is becoming more handsome and cool
Hi Autism family I subscribed to your RUclips channel Alistair, Connor, Ian, ROB, Brittany
Wow, such a good explaining Ian! I have never had beaces, only Invisalign, but now I know how it feels to have beaces thanks to you! Well done.
I love your informative videos. I have another handicap called Trisomy X Syndrome and some autistic traits are coming with it. I am HSP as well, so it is a mix of both of them. I am stimming from time to time but totally different. Not with the hands/feet. A lot of dental probs are coming with it as well. I have a small jaw, like a child would have. And am pretty sensitive to pain. Also I need to know what‘s going to happen in advance. I had 2 kinds of braces as a kid. Loose was really hard, brackets afterwards fine. Although I seem so different, I can relate and I can feel a connection to your boys. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 👋🏻
Hello to ian I hope you have a awesome Christmas ian change a lot his voice used to be high now it’s getting deeper I hope people don’t make fun of him with glasses on when he is in school
Not to be rude but why would they make fun of him for wearing glasses?
I highly recommend researching braces life hacks. There’s way to many to list in one comment (which is a very good thing), but the ones that have helped me the most are waterpiks (which very much depends on the person’s sensory preferences) and swishing water around in my mouth after eating to get things unstuck.
I personally had braces while I was in high school and it definitely took me a while to adjust to them. My teeth were crooked, crowded and I had a severe overbite so I wasn’t able to eat well for a few weeks after getting them put in but it was worth it in the end 🙂 I’ll never forget that my orthodontist put on the American Idiot album by Green Day when I was having them put in and since I got braces, I’ve completely stopped drinking cola 🙂
Good to know. I know for a fact that I need braces, I am still on the fence if its a yes or a no for me.
You guys are all literally superheroes!
Ian is very brave and so handsome ❤
AA - when I had braces my mom got me one of those spa type masks with the belly beads in them that you could freeze it was nice because I had all over face pain and it was a full face mask with cut outs for the eyes, nose and mouth. It looked ridiculous but it was really nice. I could lay down and wear it while watching tv or snoozing. I didn’t have to put a towel or anything between the mask and my face since it was made to be worn there so it didn’t get as intense as just an ice pack. I would wear several times the day of my appointment and the few days after since they were the worst but also I’ve always clenched my jaw the more I mask, so I found that I would wear it right after school everyday and it would really help sooth my jaw.
Good job Ian for getting your braces done I’m going to get braces when I’m older but everyone it will be painful!
I love the boy's braces! boys look awesome with braces!
I noticed the sore in the middle of his bottom lip, perhaps peeling of the skin. Does this occur quite often? I used to have this same problem as a kid and didn't know what was causing it until I was in my 20s. For me, it was an extreme sensitivity to onions that came into contact with my lips, which have a high vitamin A content. Vitamin A derivatives are used for face peels, and acne (Retin-A), as they cause your skin to peel. I thought I'd offer this in case it helps, as I remember that it really hurt, and I had no idea what was causing it. The old Chapstick w/o lanolin used to help. I do seem to remember that it was worse when I was seeing the orthodontist, and my sensitivity to stainless steel might have been compounding the issue. Hopefully this will be helpful.
I'm autistic and I'm starting in like 3 weeks 😬
So nervous and anxious
Great job dude with getting your braces. Luckily the pain last on a few days...
Big issue here
Thank you so much for that Video 👍❤️
been thru this, but i lost my retainer after having the braces and my teeth went back to their old position. when its time, have a few retainers made so you have a backup. also use wax made for braces, it helps the pointy edges not hurt.
Ian is doing great
We love him love this video
I wonder if you might do this video suggestion. How to help autistic children wait in line. I have a 5years old and we have been struggling with waiting since she was 2years and let me tell you . The stares and sighs we get........ >< Thank you
Your braces look great Ian! I never had braces so I can't imagine what its like not to be able to eat certain food you love 😔
My twins are 6 and their teeth are gross. I finally found a place to help. My daughter had to have 3 teeth pulled when she was 3 and now her teeth are growing forward. I just had braces taken off yesterday so I know the discomfort of even just taking a mold for my retainer. I'm worried she will have no part of it
So sorry to hear that
I’ve had dental problems since I was little because my mouth was so small, I had to get most of my baby teeth and two permanent teeth pulled, had spacer bars for years, then braces, and I got my upper lip-gum frenulum cut because it was pulling on my teeth. I just recently realized I have a mild tongue tie, which apparently can affect the shape and size of the mouth and jaw, and cause subtle speech issues, headaches, and neck and jaw pain - and also unstraighten the teeth much faster after braces. Do any of the boys have any form of tongue tie? I think I’ve heard they’re more likely with autism.
Not that we know of ;)
@@AutismFamilyChannel 😄
I'm assuming that your upper and lower jaw bones haven't grown correctly (which leads to tons of issues, i.e, small, mouth, crooked teeth e.t.c) because your tongue tie has hindered you from having a correct tongue posture. Correct tongue posture is crucial for the facial bones and face as a whole to grow correctly.
@@rasul01 Yeah😞
For me I got braces and an expander the other week. It still hurts for me but I am fine. I have had several extractions and I remember my first one was very hard for me. Then the other year I had an extraction that freed up about 16 millimeters of space in my mouth and out of that 16 I only have 4 left. Well probably not anymore because of the expander and braces. I also have rubber bands for my braces and bite turbos. I inherited a small mouth from both of my parents just like I inherited being short from them so when my mom flosses for me it hurts. I am 12 and I can't really figure it out on my own. I still can't really get my rubber bands in on my own. I have never had my braces tightened yet. Well so while my mom flosses my teeth I pull up the Piano Guys on RUclips and I pull up their Christmas music playlist. So far our record time for all my dental stuff is 3 songs.
Awesome braces Ian!
Cool braces!
I never had braces but I may have to get my wisdom teeth removed 😥
I used to have braces but I broke my bracket and had to get it fixed and it hurt
I had braces as a kid. They are painful.
My 2 year old was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and he fights me to brush he’s top teeth
We hear you
Cool Braces, Ian.😎😎
I am getting my wisdom teeth removed
Any advice for an autistic person like me?
I'll ask my wife who works in oral surgery when she gets home
Nice braces Ian!
I'm a mouth breather,I can't really breathe by using my nose because I using mouth to breathe since I was a kid. My teeth is kinda unbalance, espacially the front teeth,I have bad breathe and a cavities. My mouth used to be pretty dry but now my mouth is not as dry as it used to be.I try to breathe by using my nose but I find it pretty difficult.
Can I have a chat with you guys?(I don't have Facebook and it's ok if you don't want)
We simply can’t chat with everyone due to time constraints but you can leave a message here. Thank you
I have a question. I’ve commented before about my 4 year old with autism. I need help. He still cannot brush his teeth on his own and is not willing to let me do it without it being a huge thing with screaming and crying and him throwing my arms to the side (he is very strong). I’ve tried videos with him, therapy, having him watch me do it, and several calm approaches towards getting him to brush his teeth. He will not sit at a dentist. Any tips or advice that might help? I know every child is different and what might help one might not help another.
Have to tried soft bristles only and run it under very warm water so they barely feel abrasive?
@@AutismFamilyChannel yes I have! :(
i use to have braces
Nice braces Ian 😁😁
Nice braces Ian 😊
Nah same tho I'll have a screaming fit 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😢
Was it difficult to manage his pain in the following hours/days after getting them on?
Only a little
The dentist I go to, they don’t have a Tv
In my dentist we have no tvs😢.
In South Wales they haven’t got nothing like u guys got.
Bro braces are hard for autistic kids
Cool braces Ian ♥️🤘 personally I don't like the The dentist any advice
We give some advice in the video, but you may have to find what works best for you to get you to a calm place while your teeth are getting worked on.
@@AutismFamilyChannel thank you so much♥️ tell Ian I said awesome braces ♥️
Your boys are transitioning into manhood. We're literally watching them grow up🤯
