    Correction on the hydranges. Depends on the kind of hydrange you have as to when and how you cut back.

    I am an experienced gardener and FYI, Azaleas go in the ground. They become a Shrub. Marigolds are annuals, but theyvtoo csn get quite large, so not a good choice for hanging pots. Also be aware of shade loving or sun loving because if you do not give them too much sun and not shade, more than likely, the plants will not survive.

      Yes, u can tell that they definitely know very little about gardening and plants lol. Maybe that app can help them, but I doubt it can give them as much help as they need. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      I was thinking the same thing..And alot of the tags are not enough information I always suggest research your plants before planting

    If you use a round shovel to dig a hole it would work so much better than a flat one.

    A need help. Your mom is using the wrong shovel. You need a spade or a round tip shovel 😊 you won't struggle as bad. It's a learning thing. Y'all bring joy to my life. Thank you

      I believe the pointy shovel she’s talking about are called spade shovels. The shovel part is long and skinny and is perfect for digging a deeper, narrow hole for plants and bulbs. I have one from years ago and use it every year. I call it my Martha Stewart shovel 😊☀️☀️☀️

    • @susankahn7219
      @susankahn7219 5 месяцев назад +2

      I mean just a shovel to dig a hole. It is pointer than the one she used which was straight across the bottom. BTW...please use a trowel to dig smaller plants rather than ur fingers! Yikes!

    I know you’re trying to makes videos/ but … pretty vague info! Always enjoy your videos but how to do a hanging basket doesn’t seem to be your thing! U have to read the plant tags &plant appropriately!! 🪴🪴🪴

  • @loricawley54
    @loricawley54 5 месяцев назад +3

    I know u said ur on a budget, but when u plant things like azaleas in hanging baskets, ur basically wasting ur money. Azaleas grow to be large shrubs and should be planted in the ground. They r a perennial, but only in the right circumstances like being planted in the ground. It would be MUCH BETTER on ur budget if u did the proper research, and planted plants in their preferred conditions (zones, sun or shade, water requirements, soil requirements, etc) than planting them where u think they will look pretty or won’t get eaten by the chickens. I’m not saying this to be mean, but in an effort to save u money bc the way u did this video was just wasting money.

    • @katierojas8066
      @katierojas8066 5 месяцев назад

      I’ve planted perennials in pots and they’ve done just fine. They just won’t grow bigger than the pot.

    • @loricawley54
      @loricawley54 5 месяцев назад +1

      @katierojas8066 A pot has some depth to it so the roots of certain plants have room to grow. A hanging basket is very shallow. Azaleas r shrubs and r meant to be planted where their roots have some depth to grow. They planted a plant that's a shrub in a hanging basket which isn't the proper environment for it. It's like planting a rose in a hanging basket - it would more than likely suffer and die bc it doesn't have the depth a rose needs for it's root system to stay hydrated and healthy. When someone is on a budget and doesn't have a lot of money to spend, and if they follow the example portrayed in this video, their plants r going to die, and the little money they had to spend will be wasted. Ppl will more than likely be upset if that happens. I'm just trying to help ppl realize that different plants have different needs, and if u plant them in an environment that isn't suitable for them, ur wasting the money u spent on them.

    That hot Texas wind is going to kill those hanging planters with coco liners. 😢 I too new to Texas tho, unfortunately am learning the very same lessons!!! At least you have a filtered sunny area.

    I love garden answers! Why did you say her planting was unsustainable? I have used her planting plans and they always look great. ❤

    • @FarmhouseLiving
      @FarmhouseLiving  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I love her! I meant unsustainable in the way that she has acres and acres of beautifully perfectly landscaped property. Also if I would have bought everything she had in the cottage garden video at my local garden center it would have been out of my budget this year. Her tips and tutorials are so helpful and definitely sustainable if you’re doing that one thing. So I definitely didn’t mean that in a negative light! I just meant I’m doing things on a small scale I can handle with budget and time right now 💕

I wish I had more room for a flower garden, I would love to be able to have a cut garden to bring into the home. I love this channel I love the tours.

    I love blue hydrangeas! I have the Niko blue “big leaf” hydrangeas around my home. Big leaf (macrophylla) do bloom on old wood like you mentioned. I’m wondering though looking at the size of the pots and the fact of them already being in full bloom if maybe you are buying the big leaf florist hydrangeas that they sell in the garden centers around Mother’s Day. These are force bloomed and generally will take much longer to establish and bloom (if ever). They are sold out of their true bloom season to serve as more of an annual. Crossing my fingers for you that that is not the case, but hydrangea are a pretty hardy plant and I wouldn’t think they would be dying back on you each year unless you just had them in full sun. Just wanted to mention in case, I never knew the difference until I got into gardening a few years ago myself.
    I totally see your vision, it will look beautiful when you are finished! 🤍

    Loved your video. One tip for the planting. I saw someone wet the soil and push the plant into the soil still in the little pot, pull the pot out and the hole is the right size to pop out the plant and plop it in the hole. Worked so well for me doing a container garden.

    Azaleas don’t grow in hanging baskets, they should be planted in the ground or large containers. Keep trying and don’t give up! We all had to learn!

    The fact you can dig in your soil with your hands is crazy to me. In GA our soil is hard clay so there is no digging without a shovel and no planting without putting some garden soil in. So funny how things differ place to place! Looks like you ladies had a fun day. My mom taught me everything i know about plants too ☺️
