EDIT NOVEMBER 2019 - a few people have brought to my attention that apparently reference letters aren't required! You'll just need the contact info of your references to put on your application. Should've written this when my sister applied but didn't think to write it on here. EDIT DECEMBER 2018 - I'm getting A LOT of the same questions over and over again, many of which are very easy to do a 2 minute Google search and will give you an answer much quicker than I'll be able to reply. There's also lots that will easily be answered by clicking the links in the description box of this video - including admission requirements. I can try to help, but you guys also gotta do some of your own research (it's definitely a skill you need to be at UBC anyways, so might as well practice it!)! I left tons of helpful links in the description of this video!! There's also a lot of other useful resources online that will be able to help you out with your application (I didn't want to include everything cuz this video would've been 10 years long), just remember to do your research :) Also I just realized there's a typo, for UVIC it was a $2500 scholarship and it was their entrance scholarship-- so if you're planning to apply there just based on your grades you can get that much money!
Hi Sweetheart. I went to UofT, I did end up getting my Real Estate Licence from UBC. UBC is nicer than the parking lot of UofT, lol. ruclips.net/video/gGAP70Pm36s/видео.html
Me too. I applied to UBC Science lacking the physics requirement (they said it could be waived if i get As in ap chem and precalc, but i got a B in one semester of ap chem) and thought I would never get in, but I received the acceptance letter 5 days ago. Things happen really unexpectedly in life sometimes.
update for 2020 high school grads: Some of you may or may not know but there is no more provincial exams for any subjects for our grad year. Your grades are everything, so work hard on your grades, join a lot of clubs and fully complete your capstone project if your school is implicating the course.
ItsAMeme Mario UBC now looks at all your marks just to see how you are as an overall student. Because you’re planning to apply to sciences, UBC will focus on your science courses (bio, chem, psych, physics etc etc) more. It doesn’t mean that they won’t take it into account or ignore it though. Work hard on that 52%! Try and score for a 64 or a 70, but if you’re really worried, summer school is also an option.
CloudyElle I’m currently in grade 12 and that 52% was the final mark of socials 11 I did last year so it is set; I calculated my mark to just pass. I think it’s too late now as I don’t have time to do it online either, so I’ll do my best on my current courses. Thanks for your advice!
@@itsamememario545 Don't worry about it. If your grades in grade 12 are high enough they won't care. I had a 62% in Automotive 11 and still got in to sciences and my Gr. 12 grades weren't even that high. Just have a good personal profile. Also, even if you don't get in to UBC don't sweat it. It may even be smarter to do 2 years at Lagara and then transferring to UBC after. Saves money and is a more gradual transition.
@@JDairShine my grade 12 marks are in the low 90s rn so I'm worried af. worst case I'll just go to SFU or Langara then transfer so no biggies...I guess...
Hey, could you tell me what grades you had in your grade 11 and 12 sciences classes, english, and math please. I wanna know a % i should be aiming for cuz I am also looking to apply for sciences. Would appreciate it, thanks.
UBC was my dream university. I was taken out of high school when I was 13 and I regret not trying my best to go back. I feel like I was fourteen yesterday and now I’m 17 with a grade seven education. I don’t know if I can go on in life because it’s just too hard. I used to have aspirations and goals and it all went downhill because my parents decided to take me out of school. I feel like I’ll never get my education and I’ll never be able to get into UBC. I’ve basically just been breaking down recently because I’m being hit with reality. I missed out on high school, and my teenage years, for nothing. I’ll never get those years back. I’m almost an adult now, and I have no goals anymore. I wish I could go back to when I was 13 and keep my goals. Sorry for the rant, I’m just sad.
Try learning about stocks and investing, it is a way to GO BIG. It may not be your dreams but if you go big enough, then maybe yours dreams may come true despite the years you missed.
Hey, I'm so sorry you've had such a rough go. If you're interested, I finished my high school courses online at ILC.org. It's fully accredited and they have grades 9-12. It's $40 per course. Because of life events, I wasn't able to finish in an actual school, but I actually found learning through distance studies with ILC to be way better. Let me know what you think and if you'd like a study buddy :) or just someone to chat with. All the best to you
I would not do that. Let’s say you want to do Engineering. If you go to Kwantlen Polytechnic University for their first year engineering certificate, then you can just transfer to UBC UVIC or SFU
@@TheGamingMidget123 This is true for Engineering, but I recently transferred from Arts to Sauder, and a number of other people have transferred to their preferred major this way too.
Wow!! I've just watched the video about "Tips for entering UBC" I just want to say, YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!!! and thanks for giving me such a great information like that!!! Those are REALLY useful for me!! Because I'm living in south korea! Thanks again😆😆
AAAAAAHHHHH I WISH I'D FOUND THIS VIDEO WHEN I WAS STRESSING THE ABSOLUTE FUCK OUT ABOUT MY APPLICATION 2 MONTHS AGO... After watching this, I'd like to think I did well on it...! This is such a well-made video and I'm very happy to see people making content like this! The personal profile questions did change a bit, but mostly everything was the same :-O
hey! i just got accepted into ubc for next year and i would love to go, but my parents are concerned about how how to pay for it since its not in the us. what kinds of resources did you (or maybe other international students you may know) use to afford it? thanks! :)
Hi! That's awesome, congratulations! Since I'm local tuition costs are not as insane as they are for international students. But this page should be able to help you out: students.ubc.ca/enrolment/finances Applying for scholarships, financial aid, or student loans should be helpful! I think you should have been assigned an ESP as well when you got accepted and they're the best to help you: students.ubc.ca/about-student-services/enrolment-services-professionals-esp even if you haven't been assigned one, that's likely one of the best resources I can direct you to :)
I appreciate the mention of mental health mentions in applications because my GPA has some drops due to mental health issues and I would like to explain them but wouldn't want them thinking I'm too unstable to be an international student since a move would be a huge life change regardless.
also keep in mind that not just for UBC but typically science programs in any university u apply to will generally have higher standards for applications than the arts. also it doesnt matter what type of science u apply to, to be on the safe side take all three sciences chem bio physics. even just majoring in biology if you get like 90+ on physics that will really help too
Thank you very much it was so helpful.I am now a grade 11 student so thanks to you i will work hard on the area you said for 2 yrs.I will definitely come back after the admission.
its pretty sad that im not going to be able to talk about overcoming mental struggle on my application. I feel like my advocacy for my own and others mental health has made a huge impact on who i am and i really wish i could write about it
Like I said in the disclaimer I'm not 100% sure it's true! It was just what I was told at the time. Also I applied so many years ago, so that might be totally different now! I'm really not sure. If you feel strongly that it's a huge part of who you are, and you can actually use that information about you to show them why you'd be a good fit for the university - then maybe go for it??
Chances of getting in for UBC engineering for now. Everyone be HONEST. Pre-Calc 11: 95 Physics 11: 96 Chem 11: 93 Programming 12 (they now look at this since its related to what I'm applying for...): 96 Français 11 (French Immersion): 90 Peer Tutoring (helping teacher and students in math): 95 English 11: 90 Histoire 12 (French History): 96 Extracurriculars: -Lifeguard (1 year when I graduate) -Cadets (1 year and a half when I graduate) -Best Buddies club (Helping out around school) -Duke Of Edenburgh (Builds leadership skills) -Model UN club (1 year and a half) -Potentially curling... Volunteer hours: Predicted to be around 200 hours
Congrats!! there's a lot that goes into that decision! I can't really say much to help you out but UBC really is a great university, there's a reason why it's rated in the top 35 in the world :)
Hey I just had a few questions. Its quite difficult to get 85% here in the 11th grade but I am trying my best. What if I don't get in 90s? Do I still have a chance? I can get 90+ in my 12th grade, so will that do?
where do you live? im in alberta and kind of in the same boat... school here i've heard is harder than in other provinces and my average is around 86% which is considered academic excellence so i don't know if i can compare my grades to students outside of alberta
Great points, I saw this after I got admitted as a transfer student. But I did mention mental health issues on my application and they did seem to prioritize it pretty well.
Congrats that worked out!! I just figured I would mention it because multiple academic counsellors told me about it- and a bunch of people I know who wrote about it did not get admitted in. Like I said in the video I wasn't 100% sure about it, so I'm glad they let you in!
Lina Lecompte haha yeah I know what you mean. Yeah I was surprised myself cause it turned out that I had been rejected from SFU since they looked at my cumulative, versus UBC looking at the last 30 credits taken as a transfer student. Glad you’re enjoying the school though!
Very informative!!! Thanks so much, I'll be applying as an international student so this gave me a good insight on what Canadian schools expect of us (explains why you kept saying your GPA was 90 lol, I had no idea) . Also, you're pretty. Thanks again!
wow hi so im two years late but I just want to really thank you for this video. I got an offer for UBC and i couldn't have done if without your tips!! so yeah thank you so much! now lets not flunk my public exams so i can actually get in yay!
rip. I was talking to my sister and her friends and they said you can leave the optional part blank. They, my sister and 5 friends, all got into ubc so I guess i might be ok but now I feel anxious
It's optional for a reason!! If you didn't fill it out, it's not an issue, so don't feel anxious :) :) I was just saying it's good to give them as much information as you can (but not necessary)- some people write in circumstances that may have caused their grades to be low, (e.g. parents getting divorced while in high school), so admissions can take that into consideration (and you know what I wrote). Your sister and her friends are right, you can obviously leave it blank, and clearly they got in that way :) so no need to worry! best of luck!
Thank you for the wonderful video! I wonder if the grade average covers all of the courses or just part of them? I'm worried about my grades cause I thought some of the electives are not important and I didn't put much effort in them.
Hi! My apologies for the late reply! From what I remember they take a look at your most important courses (e.g. Math, English, Biology, etc.) but will basically not take some of the non important electives into consideration (e.g. drama, yearbook, etc.)!
Erfan Hakim I'm sure those are on the website, check the links in the description! I'm pretty sure for the arts you just need around a 27 predicted, and depending on the program you may have additional requirements such as a portfolio or audition.
Hi Lina, your tips were incredibly helpful ! In fact, I will apply for the 2019 entry. If you know any advice related to the Engineering department (Specifically the Engineering physics faculty) , like in terms of work load, student advice, or tips from UBC engineering students, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
This video helped me so much thank you!!! I was wondering tho, when you mentioned the part where you include the 5 activities you do outside of school, do you have to have each category filled in? Like i don't play any sports so i don't have anything to put in that category, so do i have to fill that in to be considered for acceptance??
Do I need to submit a personal profile for the course of MS Astronomy in UBC Vanc? It's not mentioned on the website, there's only a statement of interest mentioned.
I'm scared to apply to UBC because even if I got in as an international student I still can't afford the fees and their scholarships look super competitive
Hello guys HELP! UBC is my DREAM college. Im an international student. I have done 200 hours of voluntary work. Been on multiple clubs and extracurricular activities. I have high grades about a B or two maybe in highschool in general and a gpa of 3.80-3.90. The only problem is my SAT. I got a 970 studying ALOT but I just cant get it. Should I still Apply? Do you think they might not consider me at all????? I really really want this university. No one believes in my in my home town. What do you guys think? Thank you ( BTW im applying to Political Science Vancouver)
Hey I'm currently in Grade 11 and really want to get into UBC next year, and I was just wondering if universities normally look at volunteer hours, and if they do, how important are they?
But for the science program what If you do like EDPM( it's like computer science and office administration in one) in high school will they accept it for the science program 🤔
Hi! I'm going into grade 12 hoping to apply to dental hygiene. Do you know anyone taking that major? How was the interview. What kind of questions did they ask? Is it OK if you don't have 5 extracurriculars? The only things I'm planning on doing is volunteering to read to kids and maybe tutor them, plus student leadership at school. I'm also volunteering at the food Bank in a couple weeks. I'm worried I don't have that many extracurriculars because I don't play sports or do anything interesting.
Hi there!! I don't know anyone in dental hygiene, so I can't give you much information on it. I suggest you post of reddit.com/r/UBC to see if you can find someone who has had that experience. I would try to branch out to do some more activities as well! Seems like you're mostly sticking to volunteering- maybe get a part time job?
Hey Lina. Your video was in my recommendation section. So grateful that I got to see it. It’s extremely helpful. I will be beginning with my application in September for fall 2020 intake. I’am an international student from India. I will be applying for BSc. Unfortunately I didn’t have maths in my 12th grade which is a requirement for this course. Do u know if UBC provides conditional admission. I have no other means of doing math. I can’t tell you enough how much I want to get into UBC. I am an undergraduate student in India and I’ll be doing another undergraduation all over again at UBC due to my love for that course which is in very limited universities. Also I had 87%, is it enough for UBC Vancouver campus.
Hi ... i am also from India and commerce student , without maths and i want to do bba here . I am expecting 80 to 85 % in business , will i get in ? Pls tell
UBC requires you to report your final Gr11 marks and first term Gr12 marks. Ideally, 1st term is worth a lot less than 2nd/3rd so she has a chance to make up for it! If she's able to significantly boost her mark by the end of Gr11, she'll get a higher average by then. Shouldn't worry as much cause it's all based on FINAL gr11 marks. As for scholarships, I'm not sure if her grades are sufficient enough for academic-centric requirements at this time. However, there's other scholarships that focus on (club) involvement, community service, essay writing, and even quick surveys! check out: scholarshipscanada and bcscholarships online!
mhmmm I wouldn't say that your 1st term is worth a lot less. It also depends if the school works by terms or year round courses (that is, some schools have certain classes term 1 and others in term 2, and other schools do all classes throughout the year). If the case is that the classes are throughout the year, then yes - she should be able to boost her mark and get a higher average by then, but it's going to be hard work to reach the competitive grades required! With that being said - grade 12 marks are also pretty important so again, she's got a chance to make it up. As airyka said for scholarships the grades probably won't be enough for academic ones, but there's scholarships for community service, essay writing, even video making - check out the websites she mentioned and yconic!
Hey! thanks for the video. I want to ask that for taking admission in UBC grades of grade 11 is necessary or not. I mean , can they just consider the admission on grade 12.
My understanding is that they will look at both your grade 11 and grade 12 grades. I don't think they'd make exceptions, but you can certainly call admissions to get more information!
yes they have! But the tips are still applicable in terms of what they're searching for! I helped my sister with her application this year as well and lots of it applied :) but definitely good for other people to know the questions have changed!
I am genuinely curious about how can people get 9x% for their exams in high schools. In my city, if you manage to get an average of 80+ you are already the top student in the top school
You said that you got 93% average and get into UBC, what subject you study? I only want to study B.S.c in there and it said I need a average of 80%( Not sure ). I want to ask what percentage do I actually to have in order to secure my place in B.s.c? Do I really need a 93% in order to get into B.s.c? Currently studying in Hong Kong and taking HKDSE. I only have Biology and chemistry and I cannot take physic . So I have no chances on getting into B.s.c?
Here's the link for what is required from Chinese students: you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/international-highschools-requirements/#china-2 (if it doesn't pop up just select China when it prompts you to). Unfortunately it does seem like you need physics to get in, but it does say "Physics may be waived with grades of A in senior-level Math and senior-level Chemistry" - so if your grades are really good in those courses they might dismiss the lack of physics. As for the averages, for Canadian students is mid-to high 80s (that link is in the description box of this video), so I would imagine it to be similar for international students.... However, entry to science is extremely competitive and most people tend to have grades in the 90s when applying to that program- this is where your personal profile score would really have to make up for a lower average. Hope that helps!
That's not true- at least not for Canadian High Schools. It is highly competitive, so yes 90+ is almost a "requirement" because so many people are competing for the spots- but it's not their official requirement (it's high 80s), so the personal profile could potentially make it up.
Rip me. I have confident on getting a good grade in Biology but i will not be performing too well for both chemistry and math... Btw the requirement for chinese student does not apply to Hong Kong student, anyway many thanks!
Remember you still have a chance because of the personal profile!! So work really hard on that and you have may have a good chance :) Also my bad!! I always confuse that, haha there's a reason why the most googled question about Hong Kong is whether it's in China. Best of luck!
oops I actually wrote about my mental health issues in my Personal Statement, but maybe it kinda makes more sense for me since I applied to the Arts program and do want to pursue clinical psychology in the future. But in the end I still got in to UBC :)
Yes! But like I said in the video, you won’t get in based on your grades alone. Your personal profile is really important so make sure you have something to write about!
Very good video thank you! Im gonna have to start applying soon for Canada.. I hope the questions and interviews etc arent so different for international applicants/students..
Hi lina Really wonderful and helpful video.but actually I have a question....I am in grade 12 and my scores in 10grade were94% but in class 11 I went for science stream and scored only 76%..but at the same time I am considered as perfect all rounder in skool ....besides academics I have represented my state in Cricket game and won many declamations(3 times 1 prize) at state level and as actor I hd played roles in many short films at age of 2 and many more even.In addition from my 8 to 10 grade I always scored more than 90%...so u think that my profile is fine to get in UBC and plzz also tell how much I need to score in12 to get into ubc.....plzzz respond Thanks....
yes that's true! They'll mostly look at your grade 11 and grade 12 grades. With that being said, if you're in grade 10, that's not a reason to slack off - if anything you should use grade 10 to build up your study habits, get good grades, etc. so you can continue fostering that success in oncoming years and prepare yourself :) If you're already done grade 10 and your grades weren't that good, don't sweat it, it doesn't matter that much- but make sure grade 11 and 12 are great!
I talk about it in the video around the 7:15 mark. You should try to have a variety of activities in different categories such as sports, leadership, creative/performing arts, work/employment.
Hey! I got accepted into UBC Arts and I was wondering if you could rate your experience within this faculty/UBC overall. I'm from Mexico City and I just want to make sure that UBC is the best option in terms of how friendly and open-minded the environment is. I went to a campus tour and my overall impression was: gloomy. Also, in terms of academics (arts again) is it worth it? (I know this can be difficult to answer but I'd really appreciate your help) Thanks!
pish imtan I don't know, but I guess not. I think it's more of a fact check for the activities you mentioned in your personal profile in case you wrote something outrageously good/ bad.
Hey! I've personally really liked my faculty. Not so much in first year because the classes were massive and it was hard to feel a sense of belonging, but as you go on classes get smaller and you start to see familiar faces in classes and get a feel for the community. I'm in psychology and there's also tons of psychology events to get to know your faculty- and most of my professors have been amazing. There's also a lot of events not pertaining to UBC Arts, but just for students in general that can give you a great campus experience- ultimately, it's just about how much you get involved. In terms of academics, I can't really answer your question because there's multiple programs at UBC. If I was answering based on my program (Psychology), I would say it is worth it - it's among the Top 10 in the WORLD. Lol about your first impression being gloomy- I'm guessing it was a cloudy/rainy day, that feeling is mostly a Vancouver thing if you're asking me (it rains a lot!), but you kinda get used to it.
Do you know if the application system is basically the same for international students? Should I relate the skills I have to the course I want to graduate?
I'm not completely sure but from what I understand the application is pretty similar!! Not sure what you mean by relating the skills to the course you want to graduate?? Do you mean to the program you're applying to?
Hey Lina hope ur doing excellent, I was wondering if you've got any particular tips for people immigrating from Colombia to Canada, (I am Colombian as well). Thanks for your content!
I am from India and I am required to submit my high school grades for an undergrad course at UBC. But I will only get them after the 15 Jan deadline. What should I do? Suggestions are welcome.
Hi, thanks for making the video. By the way, as you know applicants have two degree or program choices. For example I chose Bachelor of Science as choice # 1 and Applied Science as choice # 2. if I inform UBC to evaluate my application for my 2nd choice as here (Applied Science), does that mean they wont assess my application for my 1st choice if I dont get accepted for my second choice? Oh, is there any deadline for informing UBC to assess our 2nd choice of degree?
You pick your two choices and UBC looks at your application for choice #1 first- if it does not accept you for your first choice of program, it'll reassess your application to see if they will accept you for choice #2! So for example, if you're not accepted into the Bachelor of Science program they will look at your application again to see if they want to accept you for Applied Sciences. They do this automatically
ok, thanks I got that. But I wanted to know if I inform UBC to assess my application for my 2nd choice, and UBC doesnt accept me for my 2nd choice after the assessment, will UBC admission officials stop there and wont assess my application for my 1st choice?
You don't have to inform UBC to assess your application for your 2nd choice- they do that automatically if you don't get in for your 1st choice. If they don't accept you for your 2nd choice, they've already looked at your application for both choices and it means you're not accepted for either
I am so sorry for not making myself clear enough. I know they fist evaluate our applications for the 1st choice and if accepted they wont look at the 2nd choice. If not accepted, UBC will assess us on the 2nd choice. I meant that can I ask UBC to assess my application for the 2nd choice first instead of my 1st choice? in other words, can applicants change the order of their program choice after submitting their applications? If they can, in this case ,will UBC assess us for both choices too?
Ah I see what you mean now. I don't believe you can swap your choices once you've submitted your application. I would contact admissions here: you.ubc.ca/contact-us/ to see if something can be done about that. If they did allow you to swap choices, that is your 2nd choices becomes your 1st, and your 1st choice becomes your 2nd- the same thing would apply as to how they asses them (that is they would look at your application for 1st choice and if they don't accept you for that, then they'll move on to the 2nd choice. UBC will only asses both choices if they don't accept you for the 1st.
Also, if you didin't get the best grades in high school but since you live in Quebec you go to CEgep after high school and you have good grades, will they look at the high school grades or your grades in Cegep?
I'm not 100% sure on this since I'm not a Quebec student, but I did find some useful information on it here: you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/canadian-highschools/cegep/ and here: www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.cfm?tree=2,25,920,0 and also here: students.arts.ubc.ca/prospective-new-students/admissions/admission-cegep-students/ It looks like they do take a look at your CEgep grades! You can also contact admissions directly if you want to be sure on this, tons of their contacts are here: you.ubc.ca/contact-us/
Im from QC and they look at I think ur last 2 year of secondary school and of course they look more at ur Cégep grade, idk in what program u are but try to have at least 30 for ur Cote R
Hey lina this video really helped me alot and i really want to get in UBC but as you mentioned in last part of the video that try not to mention anything about your mental health because they don't wanna deal with anything going on campus because of that issue.. but what if the answers to the questions they ask like what we learned and experience depends on how we overcome anxiety and depression issues and made a us better person. So how to answer if such questions are asked which are mostly realted to our mental heath
Glad to hear it helped! Honestly, it's just something I've heard, so like I said in the video I'm not 100% sure it's true, but just figured its a better safe than sorry sort of situation. The questions are fairly generic, so there's not going to be a question that is "mostly related to our mental health" like you said - it's just up to you if that's what you want to answer with. I think it really depends on what way you frame it. One of my friends spoke about his anxiety (in a similar way in which you're saying), he had a 90% average, played sports, did school leadership, etc, and he didn't get in. I think again, it's up to you whether you want to take the risk - because I'm not sure its totally true!
@@Route-tu4nh I didn't apply to ubc☹ I'm sorry but I guess it is best to follow her advice since no college wants to deal with anything like that happening on their campus. Hope you get into a college you want. Good luck 💕🤞🏼
Hey Lina!! Your video was very informative and cleared a lot of ambiguity for me..I'm currently enrolled in grade 10 and aspire to pursue my undergrad in PPE ( politics, philosophy & economics). As it turns out, UBC facilitates that program and the school ticks a lot of my boxes and I can't wait to go there. I have a few questions that I hoped you would answer. Generically speaking, whats the prerequisite average for admission into UBC? If you don't mind sharing, what were your grades like in high school? From a social standpoint, how was your transition into uni? (Is it easy to make friends on campus?) How relevant is the IB diploma/bundle in the scope of UBC admission? (Do IB students have the upper hand over students enrolled in academic classes?)
The required average varies by program - so I can't give you an exam # but if you're from Canada you can check that here: you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/canadian-highschools/#british-columbia . Typically I would say between 80-90 with combined with a good personal profile should be good. But it could be a bit lower for some programs in the Arts Faculty. I shared some of my grades in the video! Around high 80's -95's. You definitely have to be involved in some way and go to events to meet people if you're not living on residence (I didn't live in residence my first year). but if you live in residence it'll be a lot easier to make friends that way since everyone is in the same boat and you're all living so closely! mhmm I wouldn't say IB students have the upper hand over other students
$2500 each month for each year?
Bahar A.R.P Obviously not
Hi Sweetheart. I went to UofT, I did end up getting my Real Estate Licence from UBC. UBC is nicer than the parking lot of UofT, lol. ruclips.net/video/gGAP70Pm36s/видео.html
I applied to UBC thinking I'd never get in, but yesterday I got my acceptance letter to UBC science, dreams do come true!
CONGRATULATIONS, THAT'S AWESOME!
S. N hi what was your average?
Me too. I applied to UBC Science lacking the physics requirement (they said it could be waived if i get As in ap chem and precalc, but i got a B in one semester of ap chem) and thought I would never get in, but I received the acceptance letter 5 days ago. Things happen really unexpectedly in life sometimes.
@@tiffanyzhou5115 94% but they also look at your personal profile, grades aren't everything)
@@helenchiang5526 Congratulations! Did you apply from Canada too?
update for 2020 high school grads:
Some of you may or may not know but there is no more provincial exams for any subjects for our grad year. Your grades are everything, so work hard on your grades, join a lot of clubs and fully complete your capstone project if your school is implicating the course.
I'm applying to UBC SCIENCE but I have a 52% Socials 11... Am I doomed? Do they look at socials?
ItsAMeme Mario
UBC now looks at all your marks just to see how you are as an overall student.
I first found about UBC from your channel, I fell immensely in love and then applied. I GOT IN 💞
Brundha Boora what’s your gpa
I got into ubc!!! Now got to do my scholarship applications and dorm applications:-)
congratulations!!!
eric kim are you an international student? If yes then what all requirements did you meet?
have u find a tutor for the Sauder interview?
Can LPI be alternative for Toefl or IELTS?... Also.. Is it true that LPI is taken once u r in UBC
How much money can we get in scholarship
I GOT ACCEPTED INTO UBC SCIENCE YAAAAAAA!!
YES YOU GO!! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!
THANKS!!!!!!!!
Hi Clumpy, congrats. would you mind telling me if you applied as a international student?
pish imtan Thanks, and no I'm not an international student. I live in BC.
Hey, could you tell me what grades you had in your grade 11 and 12 sciences classes, english, and math please. I wanna know a % i should be aiming for cuz I am also looking to apply for sciences. Would appreciate it, thanks.
Class of 2021 wya?! I've been keeping this video in my back pocket since 9th grade 😩 wishing everyone good luck!
good luck to you!
same here, been in my watch later for centuries
Same here! I'm gonna start my personal profile soon and I'm so scared I won't get in
im so nervous i actually feel like i wont get in but good luck to you!
omg ! same im gonna be in 10th grade next school year and I hope I have a chance to study college at ubc! 🙏❤️
All the best to you
this is so sad. i hope things got better after this :-)
If you’re want to apply into a hard faculty to get into and your grades aren’t high enough, apply to Arts then you can transfer in second year.
Yes!!! I should've mentioned that! This is a really good point :)
no guarantee you'll get in through transfer though
john bush no that’s harder . Upgrading is easier
This is so helpful as I'm currently stuck on this part of the personal profile. Thanks for the quality vid:D
So happy to hear it helped!! Thank you :) best of luck with your application!
Hi Minh Bui, would you mind letting me know if you are going to apply for 2018 Winter session ?
Hey there, yup that's the one
Good luck to you! maybe we can help each other in writing a better personal profile. leave something here if you like.
Hi Minh Bui any update from UBC about your application? Please share
this is the most helpful video ive watched in my life you deserve the world
Studying in Canada is my dream, i think i should do Ph.D in BCU probably.
This is very helpful video, thanks.
Hey! I just got into UBC! Thanks for this video. It really helped!
congratulations!! that's really awesome! I'm glad to hear I could help!
I'm a student in Ghana in my final year of secondary school. I hope to get into UBC to study engineering one day🤞
Tell me if you get in, and your results please. I'm in South Africa, but I'm Canadian.
Heyy I’m Ghanaian too tryna get into ubc
Probably should've watched this before I submitted my app
A very informative video, I'm only in grade 11 but I would really like to think and plan ahead. You really helped a lot.
I was the same way! I remember watching college videos towards the end of grade 11 so I could do things right in grade 12! I'm glad it helped :)
Wow!! I've just watched the video about "Tips for entering UBC" I just want to say,
YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!!! and thanks for giving me such a great information like that!!! Those are REALLY useful for me!! Because I'm living in south korea!
Thanks again😆😆
Thank you for being so helpful and kind, Lina.
Yayy I'm happy to hear it made you feel confident about your application!
finally! i've been waiting for this vid for so long
thx for the upload and happy holidays!
better late than never! I really hope some of it helped you out
hey! i just got accepted into ubc for next year and i would love to go, but my parents are concerned about how how to pay for it since its not in the us. what kinds of resources did you (or maybe other international students you may know) use to afford it? thanks! :)
This is actually so so helpful thanks:)
I appreciate the mention of mental health mentions in applications because my GPA has some drops due to mental health issues and I would like to explain them but wouldn't want them thinking I'm too unstable to be an international student since a move would be a huge life change regardless.
Holy shit you're Colombian, I would've never thought. We're everywhere, I love it.
Thankyouuu so much for this. I am currently applying for UBC and I still have yet to fully complete my personal profile. This was a really big help! 😄
So happy to hear that!! :)
also keep in mind that not just for UBC but typically science programs in any university u apply to will generally have higher standards for applications than the arts. also it doesnt matter what type of science u apply to, to be on the safe side take all three sciences chem bio physics. even just majoring in biology if you get like 90+ on physics that will really help too
Ayyyy nice video. I go to UBC Okanagan. It so cool to see another RUclipsr who makes videos and attending UBC😀
awesome! hope you're enjoying UBCO! :)
How's UBCO??
Thank you very much it was so helpful.I am now a grade 11 student so thanks to you i will work hard on the area you said for 2 yrs.I will definitely come back after the admission.
the only video I've come across with tips THIS detailed and helpful. thank you, god bless x
happy to hear that :) thanks for watching!
This video was super helpful and got me a good head start to write my personal profile! Thanks!
glad to hear that!
its pretty sad that im not going to be able to talk about overcoming mental struggle on my application.
I m quite impressed with our English! how come you speak such good English been from Colombia? such a good content!
Thanks! I moved here when I was around 10 years old so I was pretty young and was able to pick it up!
Chances of getting in for UBC engineering for now. Everyone be HONEST.

I think you should be able to get in as long as you write a good personal profile including what you listed here!
Yay!! I have been waiting for you to upload a video ❤️❤️
this made my heart so happy, thank you!! Hope you like it ❤️
Accepted into UBC Food Science & still considering should I go or not...
Congrats!! there's a lot that goes into that decision!
I've been looking for such video. thanks heaps
I love your channel so so much, keep going 👏🏻 btw YOU ARE SO CUTE 😍💖
this made my day!!
Glad you’re enjoying the school though!
what about SAT exam? does UBC require SAT?? Because I saw the requirments but didn't see anything about this exam! just wanna make sure
thank you so much, I'm applying this year! I really hope I get in.
good luck!
Did you get in?
Very informative!!! Thanks so much, I'll be applying as an international student so this gave me a good insight on what Canadian schools expect of us (explains why you kept saying your GPA was 90 lol, I had no idea) . Also, you're pretty. Thanks again!
im a grade 10 japanese student, really thought this video was helpful and i wanted tothank u for making it
That's awesome! Wish you the best of luck :) thanks for your comment!
This was so helpful! Thank you so much!
glad to hear that! you're welcome!
wow hi so im two years late but I just want to really thank you for this video. I got an offer for UBC and i couldn't have done if without your tips!! so yeah thank you so much! now lets not flunk my public exams so i can actually get in yay!
CONGRATULATIONS!! so happy to hear that!! you got this!
I'm still a sophomore in high school but my dream is studying at Ubc. Seems like a great university!
Thanks for the advice! For IB, would you happen to know the minimum IB predicted marks required for UBC Arts?
Erfan Hakim I'm sure those are on the website, check the links in the description! I'm pretty sure for the arts you just need around a 27 predicted, and depending on the program you may have additional requirements such as a portfolio or audition.
Hi Lina, your tips were incredibly helpful ! In fact, I will apply for the 2019 entry. If you know any advice related to the Engineering department (Specifically the Engineering physics faculty) , like in terms of work load, student advice, or tips from UBC engineering students, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
I know this isn't the point of the video but you're so gorgeoussss😍😍😍 also this helped me so much thank you sm!!
ahhh thanks so much!! and I'm glad to hear that!!!
This video helped me so much thank you!!! I was wondering tho, when you mentioned the part where you include the 5 activities you do outside of school, do you have to have each category filled in? Like i don't play any sports so i don't have anything to put in that category, so do i have to fill that in to be considered for acceptance??
I have a question can you have like 3 activities and still have a good shot at getting in? Or do u have to have 5
I got into McGill for CS in Fall 2019 undergraduate degree. Got rejected from Queen's but that doesn't matter now..
oh wow thats really great! i want to apply for CS as well, could you give me some advice please
Are you albanian
Hey, could you tell me if you did volunteer hours or something like that?
@@victoriamelo7194 Ya I’ve done around 45
thank you so much! this was really helpful
But for the science program what If you do like EDPM( it's like computer science and office administration in one) in high school will they accept it for the science program 🤔
What a helpful video that u have made. Thx :)
I just got into UBC!! In the teacher education my questions were different than yours though
CONGRATS! That's great news!!
Lina Lecompte the video really help so thank you 😊 🙏🏾
Hi @shreyasharma did you get into ubc??
Hi ... i am also from India and commerce student , without maths and i want to do bba here . I am expecting 80 to 85 % in business , will i get in ? Pls tell
You're so pretty! and thaaaaaanks for the good information!!
Thank you so much!! Glad it was helpful!
you are so nice! thanks for the tips, they were really helpful :)
so happy to hear that :) good luck!
My daughter failed her first term of grade 11. How does that change the grand scheme of getting into UBC and applying for scholarships?
I applied this December and I can attest that questions have changed. I hope you all good luck on your applications!:)
yes they have! But the tips are still applicable in terms of what they're searching for! I helped my sister with her application this year as well and lots of it applied :) but definitely good for other people to know the questions have changed!
Lina Lecompte Yes! Your tips were amazing that I felt bad that I hadn’t found this media sooner😩😩 Stay amazing Lina!!!
media?im unsure why autocorrect did me like that but okay!😂😂
This is actually so so helpful thanks:)))
Hi,please do they waive applications for international students?
I am genuinely curious about how can people get 9x% for their exams in high schools. In my city, if you manage to get an average of 80+ you are already the top student in the top school
Wow omg what city are you from?
You said that you got 93% average and get into UBC, what subject you study? I only want to study B.S.c in there and it said I need a average of 80%( Not sure ). I want to ask what percentage do I actually to have in order to secure my place in B.s.c? Do I really need a 93% in order to get into B.s.c? Currently studying in Hong Kong and taking HKDSE. I only have Biology and chemistry and I cannot take physic . So I have no chances on getting into B.s.c?
Justin Yeung for sciences u need 90% and above
Thanks Lina! Very helpful video! I am also from South America and I hope to see you this year at UBC! PS: You're cute lol ;)
So glad it helped! best of luck with your application!
oops I actually wrote about my mental health issues in my Personal Statement, but maybe it kinda makes more sense for me since I applied to the Arts program and do want to pursue clinical psychology in the future. But in the end I still got in to UBC :)
Congratulations! Thats great! I never really knew if that was a rumour or not haha but figured I'd include it anyway. Glad it worked out for you!
how do you make your personal profile stand out?
Did you go past the word limit
This Is Issy you cant go past the word limit. It won’t let you.
What will be the minimum percentage required? For international students!
I have a grade 11 average of around 89 to 90% would I have a chance
Yes! But like I said in the video, you won’t get in based on your grades alone. Your personal profile is really important so make sure you have something to write about!
Very good video thank you! Im gonna have to start applying soon for Canada.. I hope the questions and interviews etc arent so different for international applicants/students..
MaJoR from what I’ve heard, they’re typically the same
good to hear thanks a ton!
When does the application open for next year students and what if we haven't graduated yet and graduating next year March?
Where is the score for personal profile ? Do they tell you that when you find out you got in or out ?
Hi lina
Really wonderful and helpful video.but actually I have a question....I am in grade 12 and my scores in 10grade were94% but in class 11 I went for science stream and scored only 76%..but at the same time I am considered as perfect all rounder in skool ....besides academics I have represented my state in Cricket game and won many declamations(3 times 1 prize) at state level and as actor I hd played roles in many short films at age of 2 and many more even.In addition from my 8 to 10 grade I always scored more than 90%...so u think that my profile is fine to get in UBC and plzz also tell how much I need to score in12 to get into ubc.....plzzz respond
Thanks....
I would love to know how much time they take to give responses to the applications? i am going to apply to a Graduate program (Master degree)
I have a question someone told me that Grade 10’s Grade is not that important for applying university, is that true?
yes that's true!
Lina Lecompte thank u so much!! BTW when you are applying for universities do they look at how many As u have or the overall average make you’ve got?
What activities did u join/put in ur application +what should we join
I talk about it in the video around the 7:15 mark. You should try to have a variety of activities in different categories such as sports, leadership, creative/performing arts, work/employment.
tysm for this!! maybe when i come back i'll be in ubc :D
Hi Angelo, Congrats on being admitted to UBC. Can you please tell me if the two of your reference were contacted ?
pish imtan I don't know, but I guess not.
Hi Angelo Aguilar Maurer, Congrats on being accepted. Can you tell me when you graduated from high school?
I am applying to UBC for my PhD for Fall, 2023.
I've got some professor's Interested.....
That's great :) yes, the program.
Hey Lina hope ur doing excellent, I was wondering if you've got any particular tips for people immigrating from Colombia to Canada, (I am Colombian as well). Thanks for your content!
Hi! I actually don't have any tips. I moved when I was 10 years old, so my parents dealt with all of the logistics! I wish you all the best though!
Does UBC require extra curricular activities?
Also what does your personal profile include?
I am from India and I am required to submit my high school grades for an undergrad course at UBC. But I will only get them after the 15 Jan deadline. What should I do? Suggestions are welcome.
Hi, I'm gourie from India. I wanna know how the reference letters are transferred to Ubc by uploading it or sending them through email?
UBC will only asses both choices if they don't accept you for the 1st.
does sfu and uvic have an essay portion to their application ???
What if we are doing the course that is a requirement or like doing it by the end of grade 12?
@@lina.lecompte oh okay.. i guess I'll have to think about it.. Thank you so much!💕
@@tem6238 what did you end up doing after all, am in a very similar situation myself.
(Is it easy to make friends on campus?)
How relevant is the IB diploma/bundle in the scope of UBC admission?
