OMG!!!! UBC looks soooo COOL! Especially your studio is really awesome! (I hope I get one like yours) I'm in college right now in Switzerland and in two years I'm coming over to UBC to study computer science! I've always wanted to go to Vancouver to study, especially at UBC! I really love when you show more of UBC and it's campus, cause it makes me wanna go there right away! I love your videos, please keep it up, they're really cool + I've subbed tooo!
Yesss I absolutely loved that studio, I also love the one I'm in right now (it's shown on my College Move in Vlog)! That's also great to hear - UBC is really a great school and Vancouver is a gorgeous city! thanks for watching :)
Overall, this is such a great video. Like totally explained everything so perfectly. Your voice is really sweet. And when I’ll get admission in UBC BIE, I hope I’ll meet so good People like you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
No problem. You have great content. Keep up the great work :). What are you majoring in? Also as first years we don't get a studio right? I guess thats second year onwards...
Thanks again :) I'm majoring in psychology with a minor in business! And unfortunately you won't get a studio, that's second year onwards.... but some of the first year dorms are pretty good, specially Orchard Commons (opened September 2016) and Brock Commons (opens this September), so hopefully you'll get lucky!
Rachit Malik Will I get admission in UBC BIE with 84/100 in economics and 80/100 overall in commerce?? It would be a great help if you tell me what the fees would actually be? God bless you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
omg I love this video so much! I live in Kelowna but I'm hoping to go to UBC eventually because UBCO in Kelowna is no fun lololol... anyways great video :)
thank you!! haha I guess it depends on each person, I know some people at UBCO that love it! But I'm sure coming to Vancouver is probably a lot more exciting if you're from Kelowna! best of luck getting in :)
Thank you for your video! I loved it :) I just got my offer to the Ponderosa studio as well, and I was wondering if the cookware set was provided? Thanks
Where did you get the organizational tools (like the shelf in your closet)? Also, what days/hours of the gym are least busiest in ponderossa. I'll be there next semester!
Hey! I honestly can't remember, it was soo long ago! But they're not too hard to find! especially around move in season for students, lots of places will have those available! As for the gym hours... I think the busiest were usually late in the afternoon! But it's been some years, so that could've changed by now. Most of the time, I found that it wasn't too busy for me - people would go to the other gyms on campus instead.
Hii🤗I was wondering if you could do a video of how you got in like what you did and tips etc.. and also I was wondering how come your room is so big and other ppl that did a ubc dorm tour didn't have a kitchen and all that
Definitely will consider making a video like that! Thanks for the idea :) A lot of the room tours for UBC that I've seen on youtube are for First Year residences, those ones tend to be the room only with no kitchen unless you're in Ritsumeikan house with roommates I believe. Because this is upper year level housing it comes with more to it!
I hope to get into UBC because it’s my dream school but I think it’ll be hard because I live in the U.S. I’m kinda young and have a lot ahead of me till university and things might change over the years but do you have any tips for me?
Hey:) im going to be living in Cedar House 11-208 and I wanted to start buying stuff for my room. Can you let me know what size the bed is (i want to know what size my sheets and my blanket size should be)?
Awesome, you'll love it! Pretty sure it's a double bed (also known as a full) ! so a bit smaller than queen, i found some sheets for that size, but some I liked that were queen sized and it actually worked out fine :)
THANK YOU!! You can put down what your 1st choice- 6th choice is (i think 6th), and then its just luck of the draw. they try to get you into your 1st choice though, i got pretty lucky with that! But single studio rooms are not available for first years!
Didn't find it to be too small or cramped at all, overall I thought it was actually pretty spacious (especially compared to a lot of dorms I've seen at UBC) ! A lot of my shelves/drawers were actually half empty, and the double bed was definitely nice to have!
Hi! I will also be moving to a studio in Cedar soon, so I had some questions. Can you tell me if they actually provide a mattress or just a mattress pad? On the webpage they just mention a pad.
Hi! When you say you got lucky by living in Ponderosa Commons in Cedar House what do you mean? :) Are you put into a pool of people wanting to live on res and they randomly assign people to buildings? Meaning you don't get to choose which building you live in? Also, can you live in Ponderosa for your first year? If not, why not?
Hey! so you basically get to say first choice, second choice, etc. They will try to get you in to your first choice but it's mostly random, and kind of works like a lottery (because a lot of people's first choice is Ponderosa!). So you don't really get to choose which building you live in, you're just assigned one. You can't live in Ponderosa first year because it's upper year housing! But the nicest first year building is Orchard Commons :)
Thank you! You're absolutely going to love UBC! Here's a link to the Ponderosa Commons Fees: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/
thanks for the tour Lina! I would like to study a master degree in counselling next year! Do you have any suggestion about it? I am from Hong Kong btw~
Hi! I actually don't know too much about the program, you might be better off asking on reddit.com/r/UBC and seeing if you can find anyone that's in the program and that could maybe help guide you!
Hey!! I just received my offer letter today for the Vancouver Campus and I'll be starting my course in the month of September. But I am a little confused about living on campus or off campus. Also, if I am living on campus then which type of room to choose. Can you help me out with that ?
Hi! I believe the applications for on-campus living have already closed their deadlines. Did you apply? if so, are you on the waitlist or did you receive an offer? You can also go on reddit.com/r/UBC --> there's a housing megathread there that will likely have the answer to all of your housing questions!
A few people that saw this video contacted me asking me about how I got into UBC/ any application tips and I finally got around to making the video! Here's the link if you're also interested: ruclips.net/video/tZau13cOt7k/видео.html :)
This is a one bedroom suite! You can check out all the different floor plans for studio suites here: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/rooms/studio-suite/ As for the area of the room, honestly I'm so bad at estimating I seriously couldn't give you an idea. But the video should give you a pretty good idea if you look at things in relation to certain items around the room (hope that makes sense!)
Great vid. How much does this type of room cost? Also if I wanted to come here for my first year could I get in? I'm from uk so I don't know policy for international students
vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ That dorm is for upper years only. But you need to apply to year round housing to get it. There is a long wait list. Ideally, if you want year round housing starting second year. You should apply, the July before your first year begins.
That's not true, this isn't year round housing - this is winter session housing (that is, September - April). But yeah the link for the fees is right :) And yes you could definitely apply as an international student!
ahh I see, I thought when you meant "you need to apply to year round housing to get it" , I thought you meant "it" was the room I showed in the video!! My bad. Definitely a good idea to apply for YRH early on, but personally I never did because I don't stay during the summer and subletting can be a hassle
No- my understanding is that first year dorms don't come with a TV. And there aren't "female/male" dorms, they're all the exact same. Some buildings do have girls only/boys only floors, typically if a whole floor is sharing a washroom. But mine have always been co-ed floors
Hey , I am admitted in UBC for winter session and i wish to major in psychology too,if possible can you recommend some courses that i can take in first year ,because i am pretty much confused as to which courses to apply for. By the way your video is amazing.
In first year you only have to take PSYC 101 and PSYC 102, like it says here: www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.cfm?tree=12,197,282,101. To get a Bachelor of Arts there's other requirements such as the writing, science, language, literature requirements, so most first year students try to complete some of these requirements, here's more info: students.arts.ubc.ca/advising/degree-requirements/ . Most people will take WRDS150 and a science course they're interested in as well as a lit course, and fill up with some electives that they're interested in. I suggest you talk to an academic advisor- they'll be able to tell you what courses are the best to sign up for for you, I can't make that decision for you: students.arts.ubc.ca/advising/contact-us/ Hope this helps! Congrats on being admitted!
They tend to be pretty similar if you're living an areas really close to campus, but cheaper if you're living further away from campus on the outskirts of Vancouver (such as Richmond or Burnaby) but then you have to commute a long way to campus. It also depends on whether you have roommates or are planning to live alone in both cases- typically its cheaper with roommates. I'd look into UBC housing groups of facebook or ask on reddit.com/r/ubc to get a better answer!
thx! I noticed that there are three types of studio(small/standard/large) can we just choose the type before allocation?? Or they just allocate randomly?☺️
i came here from your comment on my video and it's so cool how i watched this while i was waiting for my res offer in hopes of getting ponderosa. aw i still wish i got to live there it's so pretty!
孙璟 it’s not renewable! This one is not a Year-Round housing contract, it only goes from September to April, so you’d have to reapply each year (that is called Winter Session Housing). So you’d instead try to apply for what is called Year Round Housing which allows you to renew the contract every year! There’s some of those in the Ponderosa housing complex, all of Marine Drive Residences and I believe Brock Commons as well
Hey lina, can you please help me by making understanding with the tuition fees? Like on the website it says "full one year course with credit 30 and around 44000CAD. Is it per year or the total in 4years course?
Hey there! so I think this is the page that you're looking at: students.ubc.ca/enrolment/finances/tuition-fees/undergraduate-tuition-fees It varies by what program you're taking. But yes, for international students the 44,000 that you're looking at is per year, not for 4 years. Its honestly really really expensive for international students. I'm local so I only pay about $5500 per year.
And what is the requirement for getting scholarship? Please make a video on that. It'll be very helpful. And is it possible to get upto 80-85% scholarship?
There's tons of different scholarships each with their own requirements: students.ubc.ca/enrolment/finances/awards-scholarships-bursaries I can't make a video on them because I don't have a lot of knowledge regarding the subject, and have zero experience applying for them. I do know some people who get full ride scholarships (i.e. 100% paid for) that were drafted to be in varsity sports teams... I'm not sure if there's something similar for academics. Here's another useful link: you.ubc.ca/financial-planning/scholarships-awards-international-students/ If you need financial aid, I would contact UBC directly and ask them to help you out with all the questions you have, I can't be of much help when it comes to this subject.
Yes all the suites come with their own fridge! I got to see plenty of the suites there cuz I had a couple of friends in the building and they basically all look the same! Hope you have tons of fun :)
This is a studio suite in Ponderosa, so I didn't share my room with anybody else. You're only able to get these rooms when you're in 2nd year or higher. You can check out all the fees here: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ Some rooms are cheaper- I'll be living in Gage this year and that's cheaper than Ponderosa!
I want to join UBC for post graduation, that's for my MS degree. (And that's nearly after 5yrs😂) But what kinda dorms do the post graduate students get ??
hi! all of the prices are up online: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ This one would be a winter session studio :)
No - especially first year dorms. Most first year dorms you're sharing with your whole floor - unless you have a single connected room in which you share a bathroom with one other person. If you're in upper year housing in studios you'll get your own washroom like I did, but if you have roommates you'll likely be sharing a washroom with them.
Totally get it! I used a tape measure to estimate how it would look with the things in my room since they have the exact measurements on the website, maybe that will help too :)
Will I get admission in UBC BIE with 84/100 in economics and 80/100 overall in commerce?? It would be a great help if you tell me what the fees would actually be? God bless you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi! so for you would apply for BIE at the end of first year I believe, and you would need an overall average of 84% and to take the required courses- here's all the info: economics.ubc.ca/undergraduate/programs/bachelor-of-international-economics/entrance-requirements/
Lina Lecompte so what do you mean exactly? Idk is my average 84% or not. Idk. Like I got 80/100 overall in commerce. So like will I get the admission according to you.
Lina Lecompte do you have an Instagram account? I’ll text you there. It would be a great help for me. I swear. I’ll talk to you in detail about this. Only if you’re comfortable. Thank you Lina ❤️
What do you mean you got 80/100 in commerce? Like collectively in all of your commerce classes or was there just a high school commerce class? 80/100= 80% you do know that right? Regardless you would need an 84% average at the *end of first year* from all of your classes in first year (including the BIE requirements to apply), you apply to BIE at the end of first year. As for the fees- I sent you the link, you just had to go down to the program you'll be applying to for first year. Are you international or local?
As for tuition fees, they're here by program: students.ubc.ca/enrolment/finances/tuition-fees/undergraduate-tuition-fees . For dorm fees vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ here- as a first year, you'd either be in Vanier, Totem, Orchard, or Rits.
very very very few people ever do this, and they're likely to have taken honors courses, and graduated early. I wouldn't go at 16, you'll be too young compared to everyone else and you won't be able to relate on a lot of things!
Hello how are you? So, my name is Grazielle and I live in Brazil, as I saw in the videos, you belong to "UBC Vancouver" college, and I really wanted to go to college, I searched the internet to get in, but I did not find anything, you could tell me How did you get? Thank you for reading my message, staying with God.
you can look up the list of prices on the UBC website about residences! The nicest ones for first year are definitely Orchard (it was built recently so it's practically brand new!) and some of the Totem houses!
mudmee ravikan no, like I said in the video this is Upper Year housing only- 2nd year and up. But Orchard Commons is for freshmen only and is newer than this building so it’s fairly nice- just smaller rooms and no kitchen etc.
Megha Rawat if you get lucky with the allocation process yes! And like I said this is upper year housing! So it would be given to students who are in second year or higher
No, most students don't. If you're in first year you'll likely have a shared bathroom with an entire floor or people, or be sharing with another person if you're in a single connected room. Private washrooms are more common for upper-year housing, or if you have roommates you'd be sharing it with them
Hey! found this info on the ubc website about computer science: " based on the India grading scale, the minimum average needed to fall within the competitive range is approximately 74% on a 33% pass scale, or 76% on a 40% pass scale" here's the link: you.ubc.ca/ubc_programs/computer-science-vancouver-bsc/
Thank you very much, I managed to get 98% in my grade 11 SSC , is writing AP useful for my higher studies at ubc, if yes, then pls tell me the subject that I have to take in phy and mat, thank you
technically it's a studio! most UBC dorm rooms don't look like this - I used the word "dorm" because it's more searchable than "studio", and most people associate university living with the word "dorm"
@@lina.lecompte thanks for the clarification. Did see another video showing a more traditional dorm room st UBC. Never the less, I'm amazed by your school and campus. It'll be on our son's list, just a long way from Rochester, N.Y..

studio- winter session (not year round)! And here are the fees for it: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/
hallo, may I ask whether this type is the standard studio or the large studio, thxxxxxx!
pretty sure it's just the standard! But regardless Ponderosa Cedar House (my building) only has this size and then for four people!
thx! I noticed that there are three types of studio(small/standard/large) can we just choose the type before allocation?? Or they just allocate randomly?☺️
its all random allocation! but you can choose your top choices for housing. I would ask your questions at reddit.com/r/UBC
okay! thxxxxxx again!!!
no problem! sorry I can't be of better help rn!
i came here from your comment on my video and it's so cool how i watched this while i was waiting for my res offer in hopes of getting ponderosa. aw i still wish i got to live there it's so pretty!
omg thats so cool! Maybe you'll get Ponderosa another year :)
I have applied this year but so confuse because i dont know anyone there😂😢
I hope to make UBC this fall.
good luck!
@@lina.lecompte Thanks lina. you re very pretty btw . Cheers :)
Hello! Is this year round contract renewable? Do I need to apply for it every year even if I already move in?
孙璟 it’s not renewable! This one is not a Year-Round housing contract, it only goes from September to April, so you’d have to reapply each year (that is called Winter Session Housing). So you’d instead try to apply for what is called Year Round Housing which allows you to renew the contract every year! There’s some of those in the Ponderosa housing complex, all of Marine Drive Residences and I believe Brock Commons as well
@@lina.lecompte Thanks for your reply! Talking with someone who lived there before and the video really help me get the idea of the residence😁
Can u show the Dental campus of UBC please!!!
Here's another useful link: you.ubc.ca/financial-planning/scholarships-awards-international-students/ If you need financial aid, I would contact UBC directly and ask them to help you out with all the questions you have, I can't be of much help when it comes to this subject.
hey! do you know if there are fridges in every suite (in cedar)? i'll be there this year :)
Yes all the suites come with their own fridge! I got to see plenty of the suites there cuz I had a couple of friends in the building and they basically all look the same! Hope you have tons of fun :)
what size did u get ur tapestry?
pretty sure it was the small one from society 6, but could have been the medium!! it's been a long time!
thanks (:
What's the cost or rent of the dorm?and do you share the room with anyone else?
This is a studio suite in Ponderosa, so I didn't share my room with anybody else. You're only able to get these rooms when you're in 2nd year or higher. You can check out all the fees here: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ Some rooms are cheaper- I'll be living in Gage this year and that's cheaper than Ponderosa!
I want to join UBC for post graduation, that's for my MS degree. (And that's nearly after 5yrs😂) But what kinda dorms do the post graduate students get ??
I don't actually know haha sorry!
Is the food plan mandatory
I think it is for first year students living on res, but I'm not 100% sure. Since mine was upper year housing I didn't have to get the meal plan
How much do you pay for rent per month ?
Here's a link to the Ponderosa Commons Fees: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ ! I was in a studio :)
Lina Lecompte Thank you
Does anyone know how much this dorm costs?
hi! all of the prices are up online: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ponderosa-commons/ This one would be a winter session studio :)
Do all dorms come with personal showers?
No - especially first year dorms. Most first year dorms you're sharing with your whole floor - unless you have a single connected room in which you share a bathroom with one other person. If you're in upper year housing in studios you'll get your own washroom like I did, but if you have roommates you'll likely be sharing a washroom with them.
What size is your tapestry?
medium! the link for it is in the bio so you'll be able to see dimensions there :)
Thanks! I've looked at them on the website but I haven't been able to decide on a size. It's nice seeing the medium in comparison to your bed and such
Totally get it!
And I did look on to the campus fees but I didn’t find the exact amount. How much do you pay?
What do you mean you got 80/100 in commerce? Like collectively in all of your commerce classes or was there just a high school commerce class? 80/100= 80% you do know that right? Regardless you would need an 84% average at the *end of first year* from all of your classes in first year (including the BIE requirements to apply), you apply to BIE at the end of first year. As for the fees- I sent you the link, you just had to go down to the program you'll be applying to for first year. Are you international or local?
But can you help me mostly with the admission fees? Dorm fees and stuffs?
As for tuition fees, they're here by program: students.ubc.ca/enrolment/finances/tuition-fees/undergraduate-tuition-fees . For dorm fees vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ here- as a first year, you'd either be in Vanier, Totem, Orchard, or Rits.
Lina Lecompte This was such a great help. Thank you so so so much. 😭❤️
Because I saw the official site of UBC but could get any help with any of my doubt. It would be a great help if you helped me out.
how much does it cost?
It was around 1200 a month! Prices for all residences are here: vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/applications/fees-payments/ !
Did you get scholarship?
nope! I am a Canadian Citizen though, so tuition is much cheaper than it is for international students
It is okay to start university at 16?
very very very few people ever do this, and they're likely to have taken honors courses, and graduated early.
Hi there! Just sending you a message now, and will likely do a video in December about this topic as well :)
Thank you :) I will wait anxiously!
Hey! I sent the message right after I wrote the comment above, so check your Private Messages! :) no need to wait
Lina Lecompte thank you so much :) I don't know how to thank :)
what campus is this
T M UBC Vancouver
Is this house or hostel
neither. This is a student residence :)
@@lina.lecompte okay.
Thank you for your reply. 😊
Nice!
Is orchard commons the nicest dorm house? Which one of the dorms look good and have the best price?
you can look up the list of prices on the UBC website about residences! The nicest ones for first year are definitely Orchard (it was built recently so it's practically brand new!) and some of the Totem houses!
que carrera estudias ??
psychology!
Can the Freshmen Stay at this dorm as well?
mudmee ravikan no, like I said in the video this is Upper Year housing only- 2nd year and up. But Orchard Commons is for freshmen only and is newer than this building so it’s fairly nice- just smaller rooms and no kitchen etc.
is this the room they give students?
Megha Rawat if you get lucky with the allocation process yes! And like I said this is upper year housing! So it would be given to students who are in second year or higher
Do all students living on UBC campus have their private washrooms??
No, most students don't. If you're in first year you'll likely have a shared bathroom with an entire floor or people, or be sharing with another person if you're in a single connected room. Private washrooms are more common for upper-year housing, or if you have roommates you'd be sharing it with them
Hey! I am from India doing my grade 12(MPC), what percentages do I need to get in ubc computer science, thanks in advance
Hey! found this info on the ubc website about computer science: " based on the India grading scale, the minimum average needed to fall within the competitive range is approximately 74% on a 33% pass scale, or 76% on a 40% pass scale" here's the link: you.ubc.ca/ubc_programs/computer-science-vancouver-bsc/
Thank you very much, I managed to get 98% in my grade 11 SSC , is writing AP useful for my higher studies at ubc, if yes, then pls tell me the subject that I have to take in phy and mat, thank you
This is a dorm room? This is an f'ing dorm room? This is a dorm room?
technically it's a studio! most UBC dorm rooms don't look like this - I used the word "dorm" because it's more searchable than "studio", and most people associate university living with the word "dorm"
@@lina.lecompte thanks for the clarification. Did see another video showing a more traditional dorm room st UBC. Never the less, I'm amazed by your school and campus. It'll be on our son's list, just a long way from Rochester, N.Y..
