Bandsaw dust collection has never been the best dust collection in the shop, but I think I solved the bandsaw dust collection puzzle! At least for my bandsaws.

Oh wow! As someone who cuts far more resin than wood with my bandsaw, this is an amazing answer to the issues of all the resin dust.
Thank you Jen 😀 I hope it helps you out! 🦾
Genius!!! That is a clever idea to solve dust collecting problems for a bandsaw!!!
Thank you Homie D!
That's a really neat setup. I like the Iswitch that does it automatically for you. Very cool

Very smart and innovative. It also makes use of stuff we probably have laying around.
Thank you John-Boy .. This didn’t cost me much.. For once! 😀
Sweet solution!! If you look at my bandsaw, it blows dust at you LOL I need to do this to mine too! Thanks for a great idea Jake 👊💪💪💪
😂😂 Yesterday, I forgot to open a blast gate and it overflowed the hose with dust 😂

Thank you Dave.. 🦾🦾🦾
Great vid series. Easy to watch, see another craftsman's ideas, and to enjoy at my desk over a cup of coffee while I get my head on straight for another day (of retirement). It's a rare find to locate vids by another man who doesn't have to have their face filling half of every frame, is humble about their choices/conditions/output - yet concerned with doing quality work and the little details. Plus you have a grasp of "being rewarded 10x later for doing the right thing now".
I also noticed your affinity for Ridgid tools. Me too. I just received a replacement battery charger for a cordless combo kit of theirs which I purchased and registered 2 decades ago (2004). Have also had three battery replacements in that time. All at no charge. In order to avoid tool downtime during shipment, they sent out this new charger (a much-improved version with way more features) during the first phone call and allowed me to retain the increasingly finicky original charger to keep my tools powered during the week while it shipped. I've never had to mail back the worn out parts (batteries or charger) either.

Thank you for this awesome comment.. I appreciate that you like my videos.. I’m getting coaching now, so I hope you still like them lol!
The ridgid tools have been awesome.. when I bought the first one, I looked at all of them to make sure they were right for me.. I think I did well.. Once again thanks for this comment, We often times get hung up on the negative comments and it’s comments like these that help take attention away from the bad ones.

Very clever! I have an extra sweep attachment just sitting around, and it is going to get modified for my 17" Grizzly bandsaw. My plan is to use rigid PVC piping that is screwed to the door and the entire assembly will swing open with the door. I have an external blast gate arrangement on my dust collection cart, so I can direct collection to one of three tools from the cart. Love your idea!
Thank you Johnny… glad I could help out 👍👍
Great video Jake! Thanks for sharing
Thank you John 🦾🦾
great job jake. i have meant to do this to mine for years. i have screwed up my bearing so its on the cards very soon,
how many shop vacs have you. 3-4 is all you showed . thats a perfectly reasonable amount to have . if its double digits then maybe but not 3-4. . its so handy to be able to walk over and just use a tool without having to move a load of stuff around first. we all know that if you have to conect it you wont bother
Exactly right.. if it’s inconvenient to use.. we won’t use it..
I have 5 shop vacs in my shop.. and a big dust collector.. I’m excited about this new one for sure.. Glad you enjoyed. 👍
excellent solution
Thank you .. glad you like it
Thanks for sharing this!
Very welcome.. Glad you enjoyed 👍👍
Jake, you did it again . Brilliant. Saws are always an issue and you have solved it. Thank you. See ya Saturday!..💪💪💪
Thank you Mr. Jim.. glad you enjoyed it. .. Saturday should be fun! 🦾🦾🦾
Fantastic video Jake!!, Loved how you Jakeyrigged that vacuum head
That’s a new word.. but I will take it.. 🦾🦾
Ah!!! That's brilliant, Jake. I have shop vac extras, too. I am totally stealing this idea for my bandsaw. Love it!! This is the first time I've seen anything like that before. Simply ingenious. 🤯🤯🤯👍👍👍💪💪💪
Thank you Brad .. you got this .. it works awesome!
Great idea! I might have the parts I need to make one for my Jet. Thanks for sharing.
Very welcome.. Glad you enjoyed 👍
Brilliant!!!
Thank you 👍👍
I’m working on a dust collector room this weekend so I think I need to add this to the bandsaw for sure! Joey should design one the can be 3d printed and sell them. Royalty rights of course to Jake. 👍🏻
😀😀 I’m pretty excited about how well this works 😀
I wasn't freaked out at all. Don't know if that is a compliment but what works - works. just got a Grizzly Go513A40 may try that out. thanks Jake
Awesome.. Thanks for watching.. glad I could help.
So Jake is just watched this for the second time. This is a very well thought out add-on. My only question is; do you still run the 4” side while using the shop vac? I’m thinking the shop vac will be sufficient when cutting dry wood. But on green wood is may need to run both?
Thank you.. glad you like it… I’ve just been using the shop vac… I usually just cut stabilized wood and resin and it does a fantastic job… every once in a while I will just turn on the big dust collector to clean up anything that was able to get through.. it does work fantastic. 👍👍
Super idea - why don't manufactures make them this way? Dust collection for me is a myth - only a level of dust mitigation is achievable.
Thank you Phil.. I cut a lot of wood today and this is about as close to dust collection as I’ve ever seen.. I’m thrilled with it to say the least!🦾🦾
Cutting resin is always messy and full of static - so collection at the source is the key and you achieved that@@JakeThompson
Clever 👏
😃👍👍
Thats awesome! does the blade hit the sides of that fitting you made when you're cutting curves or anything? Do you think you could skip the top hose on the body of the saw with this setup since pretty much all the dust falling down there would be caught by your attachment anyway?
I’m sure it would be fine, I only did it this way because I have 2 saws and I wanted to mount blast gates. 👍👍
I wonder if someone that uses zero-clearance throat plates would have any problems with this setup. I think as long as they have plenty of holes drilled in it, they should be okay.
I ended up using rectangular magnets that are not countersunk into the plastic.. it makes space between the throat plate and dust collection.. works pretty well.
"Shop vac addiction" -- 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂👍
Brilliant idea! I do have a question about the usefulness of that blast gate through. When would you ever close it if that vac is just for the bandsaw?
Thank you. 👍 I have a blast gate on each bandsaw.. and use one at a time so I get full suction .
@@JakeThompson *facepalm* of course! I saw that I’m the last part of the video. A single tool like mine doesn’t need one. I almost just bought a new shop vac to tackle my bandsaw mess but alas a fitting like yours doesn’t fit with my angle adjustment trunion. Some experimentation is needed.
👍👍👍👍👍

You could start a new service.... hiring yourself out to travel to other people's shops to set up dust collection systems for them. 😊
That would be fun if you could find people that could make that happen. 🦾🦾
@JakeThompson if I win the lottery, I'm DEFINITELY hiring you to help design & install my dream shop!!!!
