That door turned out fantastic! With the magnetic shroud, it's gotta be darn near perfect when it comes to dust collection. Outstanding job! And +20points for the Karate Kid clip! Haha
Great work! I have a cousin to this saw made by Harbor Freight. It has a small shop vac port located where you installed the magnetic shroud. I like the looks of the new door A LOT more. "Thin layer of dust" sounds like the cover band that plays in my shop.
This one had the same shop-vac hookup originally. I took it off and used a 4" hose bungeed to the saw in that location for years. This works much better!
2:35 as far as the router goes, rather than pulling air from beneath with this type of bit, I tend to set up the fence a little bit back from the bit, but in the line of the chips, with dust collection hooked up to it. That way you get the safety of the correct size throat plate, and the dust collection sucks up most of it too.
I think the inspiration you are providing is justification enough to continue with the walnut. Who says it’s unnesssry😳 What’s wrong with making an extremely useful machine beautiful as well. It’s a perfect blend of form and function. 😊
I build some custom parts for vehicles. I fill my scarf slots with epoxy but I add a filler. It maybe overkill but it's rock solid. "anything worth doing, is worth over doing".
I am not sure I can think of a better use for unnecessary walnut.. perhaps that top door and the accent panels on the upright could do with some unnecessary walnut also? Nice work, Mark. Keep up the great videos.
I vote for walnut top too, and while you’re at it, how about a walnut stand for it to sit on. Get rid of all that blue, you’ll have the nicest bandsaw anyone has ever seen. You might even be able to move it to inside your house as a statement piece. 😂 looks amazing, great video.
I like where you're going with that! My dad used to have a kid's dirt bike sitting in the living room because it looked to him more like art than anything you could hang on the wall.
The bottom door on your saw looks absolutely amazing, but it would look a thousand times better with a matching top door. This video almost makes me want to do this to my Jet JBS-14 bandsaw, but I don't have hinges on the sides of the doors, just two screw on knobs, where you have only one on each door.
Another note from the safety police: the "sketchy" cut on the table saw at @4:40 would have left me less queasy if you had hot glued or taped a block inside the piece that would help prevent the top from tipping down. But no blood or bruises, so good job holding it.
I think you should slowly replace all the bandsaw parts with unnecessary Walnut! But yes, your time might be better spent on other projects. :D Awesome to see how well that new dust collection system is working, I need to do better about the collection on my stationary sanders.
Mark, I heard about the door on the podcast and thought it was a clever idea you had, I can also see this catching on with other markers because of its functionality but it’s looks amazing you got to do the top and maybe a stand with storage for the accessories you use for the bandsaw with unnecessary walnut and maybe spray the other side as well to match the colour of the walnut, now I’m rambling on…..😂😂😂😂….great video
I have the same bandsaw . Love the video I'm going to modify my door now lol. I am having a super hard time with blade drift. What kind of blades do you use and would you happen to have a video on tuning up the saw?
I'm not a bandsaw seyup expert, but I did make a few videos way back when I first got this saw... maybe they will be helpful? ruclips.net/video/ociQmDu4g7E/видео.htmlsi=SMsMTC8FMFJExk00 ruclips.net/video/xu7D-h_QZhk/видео.htmlsi=CL4PaVF7asIwEmZX
Looks great! I probably would have just cut through the metal door myself... Haha! and maybe epoxied a border with some strong earth magnets to hold the dust sucker outer device to the metal door... but who knows? Maybe it would have taken just as long to fabricate and or make functional...and in the end... still won't look nearly as nice as yours! I wanted to get into resawing and got an inexpensive Harbor Freight 14" bandsaw (used) only to see that it is FAR from capable for what I purchased it for... wanted to resaw 12" 2 x12s and the guide only allows a very minimal amount to go under it.... I wanted to experiment with welding (I don't have a welder either) 😅🤣😂 To extend the capability.... I'm trying to do cool stuff but on a budget... I, too, have a layer of dust all over the garage....😔 I like the idea of keeping the Large tube out of the way until needed. Excellent work!
For the safety police around the 90 second mark - were it me, I know that it's an irrational fear, but I'd be really concerned about "my boys" getting caught in that spinning wheel. Great video! I don't have a bandsaw, but if I did, this would be a really tempting mod.
Good video. I have a old Jet bandsaw and like yours. Does the single 4” port get rid of all the dust near the table and lower bearings? I noticed that you are still using the Jet cool blocks. I have upgraded to the Carter bearings for my saw and the tensioner. I think you find it a great improvement to your saw. Keep the video coming Kevin Duxbury MA
I love the walnut door! And I vote for a walnut top door! I love how form and function both rocked in this project!
Thank you very much!
Definitely make a top door!!!!!@@GunflintDesigns
Nice video Mark! That magnetically attached shroud is very cool! Dust collection is a big deal for your future health!
That door turned out fantastic! With the magnetic shroud, it's gotta be darn near perfect when it comes to dust collection. Outstanding job! And +20points for the Karate Kid clip! Haha
There really isn't any dust that can escape the suction anymore!

Bottom door looks great!
I vote yes on a top door.
Thanks!
Looks awesome, Mark. Definitely give the top door the same treatment. And replace your Gunflint sticker with some CNC goodness while you’re at it.
The shroud you put on at the end would be a game changer for all band saws.
Agreed! Link in the description ;)
Brilliant work, Mark! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! Will do!
That door looks FANTASTIC and the magnetic shroud was definitely a good addition!
Thanks man!!
This thing is amazing! I still think you should have painted it to match. ha ha. I was amazed at how well the dust collector was doing.
I think the inspiration you are providing is justification enough to continue with the walnut. Who says it’s unnesssry😳 What’s wrong with making an extremely useful machine beautiful as well. It’s a perfect blend of form and function. 😊

That is always the right motto!
My dad use to say, "Don't do anything half-a**". Great work. Take care.@@GunflintDesigns
Door looks great. My vote is for a top door to you went this far you might as well finish it off
Love the look. Definitely make a top door to match!
Yes! Thank you!

It does seem like it could use some more doesn't it?
love my Oneida collector, too! Great mod and it looks great!!!
Great video Mark! Top door for sure.

Thanks! And at least you're honest!
A top door is a definite now, especially when the bottom door looks so damn good 😊.
That sure seems to be the popular vote!

I have an old craftsman belt/disk sander that will be the next on my list of messes to contain.
As always, a great video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the door but man it sure would look nice painted to match the rest of the saw!
I agree!

Haha, thank you! By the time I'm done with it there won't be anything metal left on it!
I have the same bandsaw . Love the video I'm going to modify my door now lol. I am having a super hard time with blade drift. What kind of blades do you use and would you happen to have a video on tuning up the saw?

look up alex snodgrass from carter bandsaws,, great videos on bandsaws
ReMARKable!

Thanks Man! Sounds like you have lots of good ideas rattling around in your head.

Sounds like you need to buy a bandsaw just so you can mod it!

Now you gotta do the top door.
Please make a top door for the band saw
You should turn every panel into walnut.
That bandsaw doesn't look right now. You need to make new walnut upper door as well Mark.
I'm afraid you're right!
Just got a hole in the original bottom door and be done with it
top door needed
Absolutely make the top to match… then paint it
Thanks for listening to the podcast!
The top door would definetly complete the look if you have the time and materials.
Definitely have the materials, probably the time too... but do I have the patience?
I think you need to unnecessarily make an unnecessary walnut upper door for the bandsaw as well!
Haha, well put!
‘Unnecessary walnut”. There is no such thing.
