Old Head here... Pause away, my friend. The reason I watch reaction videos is to see newer generations feeling the joy of watching/hearing these songs from my youth for the first time. It's like I get to relive that moment through someone else's eyes over and over again.
This song is an outstanding piece of music written by Freddie Mercury. It has over 1.6 billion views here on RUclips alone and has been a top song for nearly 50 years. I love this song and have since it was first released in the US. Thank you for your reaction.
You should check out the 2017 Green Day crowd singing Bohemian Rhapsody, in Hyde Park. 65,000 people 26 years after Freddie Mercury passed away and 40+ years after this song was released. Completely different generation, an amazing tribute to Freddie and Queen. Rest in Power Freddie ❤
When a crowd of people who were mostly no older than my daughter knows every single word of this song and actually work together to get all of the parts right, it's a testament to how relevant Queen still is 50 years later. I really believe it's infiltrating our DNA at this point.
All the members of Queen are college graduates. Roger Taylor (drummer) has a degree in biology. John Deacon (bassist) has a degree in electronics. Freddie Mercury(pianist, lead singer) had a degree in graphic art and design. Brian May (guitarist) has a PhD in astrophysics, he has consulted with NASA.
Don't forget to note that Freddie designed the costumes in this video, Roger's degree is in microbiology (unless I'm mistaken), and I thought I heard that John is an electrical engineer.
This song is brilliant. The “four heads” a cappella intro is only lead singer Freddie singing all harmonies which were layered together. The operatic section was three guys whose vocals were layered about 180 times to create the choral effect. Four instruments, three voices and a gong. 1975 !!!
You’re right, Freddie had been working on three different songs for a few years and wasn’t able to finish them. So, he decided to mash them up together and came up with a rhapsody. Check out Queen’s Somebody to Love, live at Montreal.
In classical music, a rhapsody is a piece of music with 3 or more parts. Freddy composed this piece out of 3 songs that he had been working on and added an intro and outro tying it together. In the Live Aid concert, each band had exactly 21 minutes and then they were cut off, so Queen tailored their show.
This is an absolute masterpiece!!!!!! The label was against it because it was to theatrical and opera like but Freddie demanded it and it’s been one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time!!!!
No autotune in those days. It was a rock opera, very unusual at the time, and initially not well received because DJ's wouldn't play it because of the length. Over time it has become a masterpiece. Brian May is a guitar genius.
Everyone comments about Freddy being an amazing singer & a fantastic showman, he most definitely was, but everyone seems to forget how much of a brilliant composer he was along with the band of course. I honestly think he will go down as one of the greatest composers music has ever produced along with the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mozart, Beethoven etc Even though this song is several songs combined, the composition & lyrics are nothing short of Genius, its a timeless piece, something that can, does & will resonate with people for centuries to come
Youre absolutely right. Tommy, by the Who was released in ‘69. I totally forgot :-/ Both great pieces of music, though there is NOTHING like Bohemian Rhapsody. 8-)
@@mrad3482 I know what you mean; Bohemian Rhapsody is much more pleasant to the ear than “Tommy.” Plus, “Tommy” lasted for how long? It seemed like hours. I remember thinking it was quite dark and disturbing in some areas. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to it all the way through. On some levels, Tommy and BR ALMOST seem to tell the story of The Hero’s Journey. I’ll have to review Tommy to listen to all of the elements, but I think it does. BR seems to, as well, albeit on a much smaller scale. Not an uncommon theme in many songs, poems, and movies, as I’m sure you are aware. :). Nice discussing this with you.
Please watch Green Day Crowd Singing Bohemian Rhapsody [Live in Hyde Park 2017] where thousands of people are singing this song as they wait for Green Day to come to the stage. Amazing.
If you go into almost any British pub and this song comes on, everyone in the place starts singing. It’s an unofficial national anthem. Also, Brian May, the guitarist, was recently knighted by the King of England. Sir Brian also has a PhD in astrophysics.
i reacted to the live version, but everyone told me that it wasn’t the full song and that i needed to watch the video. so sadly, this is my first time hearing it.
A rhapsody is a song with three distinct and different tempos. But all comes together in the end. Check out Rhapsody on Blue for another great song...NO words, but what a vibe!
Excellent reaction! Your journey down the Queen path cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact, your journey into great MUSIC of the past cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody! Bohemian Rhapsody, was released in 1975 on the album "A Night at the Opera" which gives a hint as to the musical genre. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of opera so this song was written as an operatic suite consisting of five distinct parts: an acapella intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section, and a reflective coda. Generally it is classified as rock-and-roll, but specifically as a "rock opera" and "progressive rock." Truth is, labeling any Queen song, or Queen the band, is next to impossible! "Bohemian" describes an unconventional, artistic style with freedom and individuality as key elements. "Rhapsody" in musical composition refers to a single work comprised of episodic, diverse pieces arranged into a free-flowing structure designed to heighten emotions. This song came to be because Freddie had pieces of songs he never completed, so he put them together, each section totally different yet masterfully blended into a truly epic masterpiece. It is the band's magnum opus, and is unanimously considered one of the best songs ever written. As for the meaning of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie was purposefully vague. As with most of the greatest songs, the lyrics are written to be poetic and mysterious. Are they literal or figurative? As separate pieces initially, should the song have a singular meaning? Who knows! The meaning is open to interpretation for each listener to decide, based on how the music and lyrics touched them. You will read comments claiming the song's meaning, but the fact is, the entire band has never stating a specific meaning and has been firm that there isn't one, or if Freddie DID have a specific interpretation, he never shared it. Any assertion of the meaning pertaining to Freddie's sexuality are speculative and because certain groups WANT that to be the meaning.
Well, thanks for checking out the original anyway. It’s an actual masterpiece and groundbreaking in 1975. The best ever selling song, the longest on the charts over and over again, until this day, 49 years later. Freddie Mercury was a pur musical genius. And the best vocals in the last century. Yeas, century. Or as long as it’s been counted. Peace out.
Queen is greatness! Quite possibly the most versatile musicians to ever record. They could perform everything from hard rock/opera in this song, pop in Somebody to Love, to the first thrash metal song i ever heard in Stone Cold Crazy. Not to mention every other song they wrote & performed. Freddy was in MY opinion THE greatest performer
“I remember Freddie coming in with loads of bits of paper from his dad’s work, like Post-it notes, and pounding on the piano,” May said in 2008. “He played the piano like most people play the drums. And this song he had was full of gaps where he explained that something operatic would happen here and so on. He’d worked out the harmonies in his head.”
You nailed it. Freddie had 3 separate songs in 68 to 70. He put all 3 songs together for this song and it came out in 75. I remember listening to it when I was in junior high in 75. I have loved it ever since then.
The Guitars, Brian May, is the GOAT! He has a PhD in astrophysics and builds his own guitars. He also does not use pics. He uses a British coin callex a sux pence.
You said positive vibes. Here is a thought I had at a low point. Life is like a set of hills. Keep your heads up. The low points make the high points much sweeter. Wish everyone the best. Feel free to spread that around.
Love, love, love your reaction - take no notice of complainers. What is the matter with them! They can watch the official video elsewhere, as you pointed out. Even if you don't react to it - you will be blown away to watch, and listen to, the Entire crowd of over 100,000 (I think) GREEN DAY fans, while waiting for the band to appear, in Hyde Park, London, singing along to this over the loudspeakers - including the guitar solos!!!! Its 💯% amazing
Masterpiece! Enjoy yourself on your journey into the best era of music! I might be getting old (68) but we had the best music! And don't worry about pausing - I love seeing young people discover greatness!
There's a huge debate on what this song is actually about. People seem to think every song needs to be "interpreted," but in this case, my guess would be to take it literally. If you think about it, it's laid right out there. The confession and trial (was he sentenced to execution, hence the "I don't want to die"?), appeal, anger, then acceptance. It just makes the most sense to me. I could be wrong. Some think that it's about his AIDS and coming death, which is impossible. The song was released in 1975 and AIDS wasn't around until the mid 80's. What I think everyone can agree upon is the fact that taking 3 songs that he couldn't finish and mashing them together to actually mean something takes an absolutely brilliant mind.
Im not sure if Freddie had been diagnosed at this point, but he seems to knows he's not got long. Body's aching all the time. This seems like a goodbye letter to his fans. And when the band sings,"we wll not let you go," it sends shivers down my spine. Listenèd to this song for years, and this just hit me today!
Nice reaction to Queen, a band I saw twice in the 70s. If I may recommend a song called Roundabout by YES off the Fragile album. It's a prog tune, I've been dancing to 53yrs. ✨️🎶✨️
It's a story about him killing someone...first he confesses to his mom, police...2nd part is the trial/sentencing &3rd( last) part(rocking out) is his reaction to being found guilty

Bohemian Rhapsody is a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!

Freddie wanted a classical, theatrical masterpiece..... and that's what he achieved!! Genius!!!
One of the greatest songs ever written and recorded ❤❤
Bohemian Rhapsody is not a song, it’s an experience.

Came here to say this. That video is a true testament to the importance of this song, generations after its release.
Absolutely a must.....Freddy is still here whilst there are new fans of his brilliance. RIP❤🎉

Your reactions are comfort to me thank you so much for posting❤❤❤❤❤
Freddie owned the stage! This is the most epic song ever!
That was the kind of music that was playing on the radio when I was younger.
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it your face is classic I love it❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's what a Rhapsody is, an epic multi part piece of poetry or music. Changed how long songs were recorded for radio...
Love watching peoples mind being blown by Queen. I was 5 when this came out.
This is an absolute masterpiece!!!!!! The label was against it because it was to theatrical and opera like but Freddie demanded it and it’s been one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time!!!!
Masterpiece ❤ Queen band are legendary 😊 RIP Freddie ❤ thanks for your reaction 😊
You can always tell a genuine reaction when the reactor gets lost in the music, brilliant.
No autotune in those days. It was a rock opera, very unusual at the time, and initially not well received because DJ's wouldn't play it because of the length. Over time it has become a masterpiece. Brian May is a guitar genius.
It’s called real music,no auto play, actual music. It’s a 4 part opera in essence. This song hit #1 3 different times

Strate 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Freddie called it a Rock opera. He enjoyed Opera and always wanted to bring Opera into one rock song. He was very forward thinking
One of the greatest songs, and bands, of all time.
It is a rock opera. First and last of it’s kind! Brilliant weaving in and out through the story…Masterpiece.
Wasn’t “Tommy” by The Who the first rock opera? I’ll have to look it up.
Youre absolutely right. Tommy, by the Who was released in ‘69. I totally forgot :-/

ITS AN epic song. Will last longer than the music of today.
Tool the dice, Who Wants to Live Forever, live in Montreal. It is spectacular.
And thats the genius of Freddy Mercury.

Just the greatest.

Another conjecture that I heard was that the “Man he shot” was Freddie’s way of coming out as Gay…he killed his Straight persona.
Yo my man. Next Queen do “another one bites the dust “ 💥💥💥thanks boss
I saw Queen live in concert in 1980 in providence R.I

Great reaction my bro, great band and great song
Nothing like Queen the original QUEEN
This song is a true rhapsody by definition.
Given your message to chase your dreams, you might appreciate the Queen song 'Spread Your Wings' written by bass player John Deacon.
The movie is great. You get to see how they got together and his tragedy 😢
Great reaction!
Fun fact: right up until the line that begins, "Thunderbolt and lightning..." ALL vocals are delivered by Freddie.
Great reaction❤😊

Do Queen “Don’t Stop Me Now”
You need to watch AC/DC thunderstruck live from Rio. You like crowd reactions, you'll love that
I love watching your reactions to songs I have grown up listening to when it first came out!
the reason folk get on you about pausin is you dont pause the radio when a brand new song comes on for the first time
Its a story. He kills someone. Says goodbye to mama. The operatic section is the trial. "Will you let me go? No no no no we will not let you go" !
Suggestions: only the good die young, Innuendo, A Winters Tale, radio Gaga, and Heaven is for everyone...
It’s 3 songs he couldn’t finish so he mashed em together. He could do that he was Freddie!!
Thanks. Love seeing it again I’m old and was a big fan. That guitar player - still playin. Just sayin
💜
Laughing 😂 .. I had the same reaction!
This song is all Freddy. He did all the vocals, instruments, even wrote it. The interesting thing is he wrote it in the mindset of making it a country song. P.S. gotta hear Fat Bottom Girls.
Check out Brooks & Dunn “Believe.” I think you’ll appreciate it. It’s a story like no other.
Think of this as a 3 part drama:
First, he commits a crime and knows he has to turn himself in
Second, the trial…let me go? No!
Third: he escapes “just got to get right out of here
Then the final part where be accepts fate: nothing really matters.
❤❤❤❤❤🎉
