    Got a funny story for you regarding railroad crossings. So back in 2000 my cousin Roland, a conductor for CSX Jacksonville I mentioned once or twice before, was bringing in a long train to the Jacksonville area when a motorcade was basically having to stop for the crossing. I must reiterate this was a long, slow train taking roughly twenty to twenty-five minutes to clear the crossing. Once the train was in the yard the manager comes to Roland, trying his best not to laugh and asks him if he knew who he had delayed. Roland said he did not, and the manager then lost it and started laughing.
    "You delayed Presidential-Candidate Al Gore!!" Roland then, much to the manager's amusement shrugged and said, "So what? I'm voting for Bush!"

      @@Hyce777 LOL, never heard of that one. I guess the morrow of both stories, never hold political rallies near railroads, the trains will always show you up (or in Al Gore's case, make you late to your own press conference/ rally). XD

      Even more satisfying, and useful if you're running short on the time bonus on two consists going to the same section, is bottling the air before disconnecting while rolling, so you cut one consist free and let it roll then open one of the end valves in the right spot, run over and stop the second load in it's right spot. Of course that does need a bit of timing to get the right separation to flip the right switch, but is good fun.

    Since you manage the keyboard shortcuts well, consider going to the Machine Factory & town and buying a locomotive remote for 25000. When holding a remote you can use the keyboard shortcuts to quickly change locomotive controls from 400 meter distance from the cab (or 2400 meters with the caboose attached to the train)

    They really need to fix those signs, they don't give you any warning about intersection speeds until you are right on top of the intersection, some can go from 70 to an instant 30. And some of those signs are right on the edge of speed before derailing, I've had some unexpected derails in the cars when I definitely did the speed limit through the section. The speed changes can also be super aggressive, and barely give you time to react before you are in it. You should also watch for those white downward triangles with red under the speed limit, that means the speed is going to drop 20kmph or more.

    So, the biggest difference between fright or passenger cut in is freight like you said, doesn’t have a graduated release and Full release is 90 lbs, with passenger it has the graduated release and a full release is 110 lbs. our mechanical guy was running one time and he put it in passenger cut out because he said the cars will sometimes respond/release faster with 110, but obviously their brake valves aren’t set up for graduated release

If it is explosive, it usually would not be hauled in a huge tank like that. There is also no class number wrtten on them. It would usualy have which class of explosive or flamable material is being hauled. The placards are ok if they were small boxes of something, but not for a huge tank car.

      Of course Bjørn! It is actually "Grade Crossing" - where you have a crossing of roadway grade, and railroad grade. I think they call them Level Crossings at least in the UK, not sure about the rest of Europe. Anywhere a road crosses the track. I work in the industry here that makes them so I get pretty specific. We call them At-grade crossings, or Highway Rail Grade Crossings (that's what the government calls them). You can also have Above-grade crossing (bridge) or below-grade crossing (tunnel or underpass), hence why the flat ones (usually with lights and gates) are called at-grade.

    I've been having issues with the steam train derailing when I'm 10 kph under speed limit any tips

    • @Hyce777
      @Hyce777  2 года назад +1

      Hmmm. You can have bad slack action / bad responses if you're braking hard with the independent, that could be it. That, and going over switches at track speed doesn't seem to help.

      @@Hyce777 I use the train brake 90% of the time and I've also had this issue where I can be going straight on s track and my tran just goes "aight I'm about to head out and it Flys off the rails even under the limit and also how do I get the steamer to pull me up hills better I did an 800 ton load last night and barely made it to the harbor from steel mill

      @@silvertheflyguy hmmm, that is odd. Figuring out exactly the reverser position and the damper that gives you the most pressure is usually the trick.

    hummm I think I see FRA violations> a caboose on the end of the train is a no no! unless it is unoccupied! no occupied cars next to hazmat but if you are riding a hazmat car on the shove ... or can not be occupied and you need at least one headend buffer car to completely hazmat train... You need 5 buffer cars if available to the engine ( I guess going back to steam era rules!)

    hey hyce now that you have extra money why don't you buy the locomotive remote so you can do shunting very easily ,you can also use it for double loco runs where you can control one engine from the cab and the other loco with the remote
