Finally one that covers both the rider and the frame! I won't buy yet, I don't have a bike at the moment, but this is what I'll be going with for the rear and I'll have to check out what the brand has for the front.
Have the original front(with extension mod)and rear Mudhugger since day 1 on my 29er. But I had to custom fit my own extension for the rear. My adaptation works but I really like the look of the mk 2. Might be time to upgrade.
Great product, got it for my Trek Marlin commuter bike... highly recommend especially if you live in the UK or Ireland. It protects you big time in the wet rainy days !
I just bought one at my LBS in Duncan BC, Canada which has lots of wet trails through the winter. They know what their customers need. Product looks well thought out.
Why does the website suggest the size large will fit a bike with a 28⁰ to 22⁰ seat stay angle? Assuming the seat stay angle is actually the seat tube angle then the majority of mtb bike are at around 76⁰. So some info somewhere is wrong and I can't figure out which one to buy!
I have a hardtail, with seat stays at 36 degrees from horizontal. It's a Calibre Line T3, with 29 inch wheels. Ideally I'd like to add a MK2 Rear Mudhugger, size LARGE. plus an FRX - Front (or Mini Rear) Mudhugger at the front. Will these fit? I'm holding off from purchasing because on themudhugger website it says suitable for 28 - 22 degrees. If it won't fit, then there's a product opportunity for you. Also, does it come with the Helicopter tape?
Hello Stuggy, Go for the MEDIUM MK2 Rear for your Calibre. And yes you can fit the FRX to the forks too, an extender is also available for the FRX if you want more anti spray protection. www.themudhugger.co.uk/collections/rear-mudhugger-mountain-bike-mudguards/products/mk2-rear-mudhugger-medium-new-for-2022?variant=43539850035374
Great new concept for full-sus rear protection. Any plans for a retrofit for those that already have the old system without the extended protection? I have 2x bikes I would love to get bottom bracket protection on. If not, will there be a promotion to get us swapping?
Hi Derrick. No retro fit I'm afraid, we tried that in the R&D stage, but couldn't modify the existing tools. Talking of which we have £100k worth of costs to recover for the new tools, so no discounts at the moment. Cheers, J & B
Given this is plastic, it shouldn't be too difficult to make your own extension. If it were me (& I'd def suggest looking for other input than mine 😉) I'd drill 3 to 5 small holes (4mm maybe?) on the bottom end of the mudhugger - an odd number of holes so that one of them is at the top of the fender's curve, which should help create a curve in the extension - then cut an extension out of polyethyline or something, like a plastic notebook cover, drill matching holes, & lace with small zip-ties or something.
I have the Mk2 on one of my bikes and really appreciate the extra protection from the new extender, however with it being push-fit the extender does rattle a bit when the terrain gets chunky. Do you have any recommendations to stop the rattling? Should I glue it in place when I'm happy with the length or can I use something to pad it out a bit at the connection point? Maybe double-sided tape? What do you think? Cheers.
Hello Matt, sorry to hear the fit isn't perfect. I'd try a couple of pieces of duct tape stuck to the Hugger where the bb extenders slides into the recess, this should push it into the slots tighter. Hope this helps.
Hi, is the Heli tape essential? as the rubber strips are there and the back of the straps are rubber too? If we ever need to remove the heli tape, does it peel off easy ?...thanks in advance.
@@Sunny-3 Heli tape is totally essential, your paint and then frame won't last more than a few hours riding in wet conditions. It's easily removed with a hairdryer heating it up as you peel it off. Regards Bruce and Jay
@@jamiegardiner3511 Italy I checked and all online stores have the old version. This mk2 would solve a big problem with my Giant Reign E as the suspension always get clogged with mud. Not the frame....
Excellent video, very clear, 'no messing' instructions.

Perfect, big thanks to you guys will like to see one of these long ones for the front for street riders.
Is it flexible enough to fit it on the 29"2.25 regular hardtail bike
Yes, customers got to Hardtails all the time 👍👍👍

Looks like a great product but it took you three whole years to figure it out?
It it compatible with Topeak Tetrarack M2 rack?
Sorry, but we don't know, as we have tested this yet.
Any way to grab the mk2 from outside UK?
It seems nobody carry this

Would I still need to use the heli tape if I've got invis fitted? Thanks
Yes most definitely invis won't last long our helitape is many times thicker and tougher.
👍👍👍
3 years to design? Why didn't you design it to attach to the chain stays, and the silly clip on extra is then not needed. That idea took me 3 minutes.
Wow, that's such a great idea you should set up your own company and make them. You will make a fortune 😂
@MrDomestical is your new design ready to go yet, pal?!
