It wasn’t the drummer rapping, it was the spirit that possesses his baseball cap - lol the group have their own random yet very funny fictional backstory.
Yeah people can found out more of their personalities from the mock MTV cribs episode they did for their headquarter. So funny
Murdoc - made a deal with the devil -- 2d - so called because of the 2 dark circle eyes -- Russel Hobbs posessed by the spirts of his dead friends -- Noodle - 10yr old wonder kid , or something along those lines
@@DigitalRageInc 2d has 8ball eyes(a real thing actually) that was caused by murdoc, first murdoc tried robbing the music store 2d worked at by running a car through the window and hitting him, rendering him a vegitable, as punishment he was ordered to be 2ds caretaker and while blowing donuts 2d was thrown from murdocs car and busted the other eye, but this also brought hi out of his vegitative state

Fun fact: the blue guy singing is a ghost of one of Russels (the drummer) friends who died in a gang related drive by shooting. When they died, their spirits possessed Russel and that's why his eyes are glowing white.
So who’s the one possessing 2-D?

I thought it was that the gentleman who voiced "Russell Hobbs" was in a coma for some time and the doctors couldn't explain why, nor why they couldn't bring him out of the coma. (Hence, the "all in your mind" lyrics.)
Noodle kicked some ass, that's what Noodle did.

It's just New Age stuff, environmentalism, New World Order... there's a lot of stuff like that out there
@@ezj8262 theres nothing quite like gorillaz out there
@@ezj8262from what I’ve gathered most of their stuff has to do with failed relationships, lost love, trying to connect to people, and whatnot. Nothing quite as abstract as globalism. Just my impression.
Theres no bad track as of yet
There was this explosion when Gorillaz came out with this. The masses were like "WHAT IS THIS MAGIC!?"
and then I bought the album and my life was never the same after that. "Gorillaz" is still one of my favorite albums of all time
It was a movement for sure
It was incredible, I remember first watching this video on MTV(yea, music videos, I know) while I was getting ready for school one morning - blew my fucking head off, there was N-O-T-H-I-N-G like this, nothing even close to this. This & Gorillaz went huge a year before most anyone would even know about The White Stripes, and even then 'Fell In Love with a Girl'(first big single) wasn't on the level of 'Clint Eastwood', it would still be another year before 'Seven Nation Army' would [literally] change the world.
Totally changed the way I thought about writing music
Rarely did I react like I did when I first heard Clint Eastwood. It was something else. Same week checked the CD out in our local mall...instabuy...every song was out of this world
You know everyone talks about how good Demon Dayz is and it IS really good, but holy shit that first Gorillaz album sounded so fresh and unlike anything else really at the time. Still my personal fave.
What you said about the song's deeper meaning was pretty spot on.
One of the reasons Gorillaz was created was because the creators (a musician and a comic book artist) felt that the music industry was oversaturated with fake personalities that detracted from the music.
So they hatched an idea: Have a band that stars animated characters. That way, the personality of a celebrity doesn't distract from anything. It's all about the music.
Great history man
The singer is Damon Albarn, better known as the lead singer of Blur...
You know...that one small little band from the 90's in the UK that had a little feud with a little known band called Oasis
Yeah he and Noel Gallagher were both involved at the same time with the lead singer of Elastica

Great band. Graham Coxon is an excellent guitarist.
That one little band that changed the scene for fun
"y'all can see me now cause you don't see with your eye, you perceive with your mind"
My favorite lyric
"Thats the enemy... bust a few rhymes so mother@#$%ers remember where the door is(out of your mind/through your eyes) ... remember that its all in your head"
@@SteveSmith-sw9uu I think it's "Where the thought is" not "where the door is"
"That's the inner; so I will stick around with Russ and be a mentor, bust a few rhymes so motherf*ckers remember WHAT THE THOUGH IS, I BROUGH ALL THIS so you can survive when law is lawless; feelings, sensations that you thought was dead, no squealing and remember that it's all in your head"

Clint Eastwood don't know karate
I adore Del the Funky Homosapien. He didn't even wanna do the song till he found out the animator was done by the dude who did Tank Girl. He didn't like the original verse they wanted him to read. They said "Can you make it better?" and here we have the song!
We had a karaoke group that would meet up once a week. One this guy joined our group and asked what our favorite band/singers were. The Gorillaz are my all time favorite. The next time we got together he pick Clint Eastwood, and he got called up. The screen said "Singer one" in blue and "singer two" in green. He looked to our group and said "Oh, I didn't know there was two singers..." I jumped right up grabbed the mic and when "singer two" 's part came up I rapped it, with out looking at the screen, and just walking around the audience.
Mr. Video it made me happy seeing how much you enjoyed this song.
Finally, someone let me put of my cage ...
Wow, as an old(er) white lady, you can imagine that rap is not my chosen genre, but I loved this. I just went and read the lyrics and this shit is poetry! I think the first part of the chorus would be a good mantra for you.
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
I got sunshine in a bag

You are definitely not useless, but from things you've said in the past makes me think that you have felt useless before. Your future is coming on! You fill my sunshine bag every day, thank you for introducing this great song to me and to others like me. 🧡

There's a lot of beautiful poetry in hip hop/rap. Another fantastic song by Del is 3030: ruclips.net/video/WjSVYKMk-Zk/видео.html. And one of my favorite underground albums of all time: ruclips.net/video/wPvKTrov4sQ/видео.html Akbar's the Big Bang Boogie album. Very clear and succinct lyricism and poetry at play. Those Who Say is my favorite of that album. :-D
My first instinct was to criticize you for taking so long to realize rap is poetry. . . But no, I can’t let myself be negative. I’m happy for you and encourage you to listen to more hip hop. I think just like any genre, it’s hard to jump into a pool and not know where to start. You want to dip yer toe, but still don’t know which part of the pool to dip the toe in. It’s how I feel about jazz, or classical music, or bob dylan (the first rapper). I think just find an artist you like and start with the first album and just go in order. I’ve been obsessed with bob dylan for more than a decade and still have not got past his fifth album yet. For rap I would just throw these names your way . . . Hieroglyphics, latyrx, blackalicious, madvillain, Kendrick Lamar, Joyner lucas, and of course the beastie boys.
@@kf8346 I just wanna applaud you for going with the better angels of your nature, and for being vocal about it. I couldn’t agree with you more, sometimes you just gotta jump in and then swim around from there. If it’s pleasing to you, cool; if not, skip and move on. Thanks for the recommendation list, although I’m still meh about Joyner Lucas
@@kf8346 It's been like that for me with almost every genre of music. You just need to find that one song. It's made me late to the party with many styles but damn, if I ain't having fun now that I'm finally here.
Never clicked on a video faster in my life
Damon Albarn encapsulates what gave music in the 90s it's thing. Every type of music was going to play in their neighbor's playground and learning new tricks. Music genres were taking their influences from a wider and more varied pallet. Some of it was weird, some of it was crazy, but it was all creative as hell and it gave us some beautiful fusions of sounds. That's the philosophy Albarn has taken into Gorillaz: collaborate with great artists and musicians and put something new into the world.
Gorillaz always gets to me. Gotta love it, the verses, the beats, the graphics the artistry... the whole experience.
man, i always took this song as being about weed. He carries "sunshine in a bag" and then his stoned conscience gets summoned and gets him into a trip, unleashing his inner thoughts. This made sense to me as the trip gets weirder - "just remember that it's all in your head", then he returns to his state of happiness thinking that he still has sunshine in a bag... :D
Same bro.
New too lol
Man I was a kid and I was heard this song singing it for the first time way back in a day and in my mom breaks it down to me that's exactly what Sunshine in a bag meant

Chuck Norris was in Texas Ranger. Clint Eastwood is an Oscar winning Actor( Dirty Harry, Unforgiven, etc) and Director, (Mystic River, Bridges of Madison County, etc). Great review. 🧡
Also, Dirty Harry is the name of another song. (And a favourite of mine)
"Get off my lawn"
Million Dollar Baby (the boxing movie) was another film by Eastwood.
Noodle is the guitar player, 2-D keys and vocals, Murdoc on bass and Russel is the drummer. They don’t define it so much but too become familiar. A helpful key for the Gorillaz.
Dude, I'm glad you got that message in the first viewing. That's basically the whole reason for the band existing, they are a commentary against how the industry is run. Del just happened to be in studio when they were finishing the album, he was finishing his at the same time. He was reading a book on hiw to construct songs and he transferred what he learned to his lyrics. It just so happens to also sound like commentary on the industry as well
Try 'Stylo' by Gorillaz. I think you need to listen to The Prodigy as well- Firestarter or Breathe are good ones to start with.

You hit my soft spot I LOVE Gorillaz and have for like well since the beginning. I think it's been like 15 plus years! Do Stylo, Ascension, Hollywood, Rock the House, Dare, so so many good ones. Welcome to the world of Gorillaz! You opened a rabbit hole with this one, have any questions? LOL small blurb - Gorillaz are a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. Damon is the voice you talked about for 2D the singer, and Jamie Hewlett is the artist of the band. They have lots of guest artists like Snoop Dogg, Elton John, oh so many. They are the SHIT. The band primarily consists of four animated members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. Their fictional universe is presented in music videos, interviews and short cartoons. Noodle plays the guitar and the green buy on base guitar is Murdoc the creator of the band "Virtually". There is a huge story line to them that they keep going to this day about the characters of the band. In this video the big blue gorillaz are dancing the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. Once someone points it out you will notice right away. So fun!
I still remember this being my first Gorillaz song ever. I remember how I was sitting up watching Adult Swim and they played this music video along with Daft Punk's entire Interstellar 5555 movie. Fell in love with both that night.
Another great song about the music industry using their singers would be Panic at the Disco's "Hey look Ma I made it" music video.
Murdoc is bassist (bass guitar) and Noodle is the guitarist.
