It’s kind of funny to me that Feel Good Inc has become their signature song when I think of Clint Eastwood as their breakout hit and it was very big at the time. 19-2000 is a banger too

    • @samuelgordino

Yes it's really strange Feel Good becoming their signature song. At the time Clint Eastwood was a much larger hit.

I feel like the fact that Clint eastwood and 19-2000 came out just a few years before social media platforms were a big thing has something to do with it. If you think about it things like Twitter, Facebook and RUclips became a thing on the mid 2000s, just when Feel good inc released, so i think it was just perfect timing for it to make a big impression, and still a bit more fresh for the newer generation too.

The fact that Del the Funky Homosapien begrudgingly wrote his verse in less than 30 min on his way out the door after given a very vague explanation of what the themes were ONLY because he was a comic book nerd and loved Jamie Hewlett's artwork is LEGENDARY. After learning that the beat is a God damn preset and Del the Funky Homosapien's literal effortlessness makes this song so much more amazing.

    • @Swenglish
      @Swenglish Год назад +14

The beat has a little bit more going on than just the Omnichord preset sample, but that is indeed the driving part of it. There's also the melodica, the layered drums, the (electronic organ?) crescendo...

Del gave himself a newish name for his character in the video. He became, let me remember...Del the Funky Specter or something like that.
In the universe of Gorillaz is that Del's character was part of Russell's gang but was killed in a drive by shooting like most of Russell's gang and they haunt him...litterly.

Fun thing about Gorillaz is, that they are not a band in the traditional way. They basically just consist of the singer from Blur and the artist who draws these characters. Everything else is a collaboration with several other famous artists. The characters seen in this video however, are a virtual band with their own lore and history, which itself is a complete other rabbit hole worth diving into.

This man was so talented, he pressed play on the Rock 1 preset on a toy and was done. Meanwhile he didn’t even know the rapper, according to Del someone else had been asked to do the rap (I assume the G sides version) and then it didn’t work out so he was approached, but was so uninvolved that he didn’t even get told when the song was released. My sarcasm is masking that I absolutely love this song and the Gorrilaz, but it does have a few interesting quirks about how it was made.

ah one of my favourite bands. They fall in that "I cant recommend you 1 song because they have like 5 different directions they song take at least" group
they really are one very creative project and idea that has made some amazing songs. My favourite being On Melancholy hill, that one just makes you feel so good
BTW the "that its all in your head part" in this song, if you take off your headphones you wont be able to hear it, the joke being that its all in your head😅. very subtle yet creative detail
Edit: also some songs have videos of Murdoc narrating and explaining them, this one in particular has it, if you are interested in hearing that its really funny

Gorillaz has guest vocals on the majority of their tracks. Clint Eastwood's main vocals are performed by Deltron 3030.

    Fun fact:
The line "that it's all in your head" is only in one channel of the song (left or right).
This gives the illusion that the line is missing on speakers, and is why you can then hear it in your headphones (which will have a proper stereo spread).

Pretty cool to see someone so much younger experience their premiere video. This was America's intro to Gorillaz and what made me an instant fan.
I recorded the video onto a VHS tape that, I swear, I wore the hell out watching and re-watching over and over again.
Edit: To inform you, the art is by Tank Girl artist Jamie Hewlett. He's also the co-creator of the band with Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur and the voice of 2D. You REALLY should dive into more of their music. Personal recommendations: Saturnz Barz, Cracker Island, Latin Simone (either the original or the English version), El Manana, Melancholy Hill, Humility, and Pac-Man, just to name a few.

Funny this song became what so big considering that a member of the band revealed that the instrumental was actually the preset on a beat machine. It mightve been a kids toy type music making device but that idk. Its verbatim and my mind was blown when i saw that. I used to sing/rap this at Karaoke. It is a great song either way!

'On Melancholy Hill' and 'Stylo' are worth a watch for the videos alone... 'Melconcholy Hill' is a great song too. '19 2000 Soulchild Remix' is a good listen too.

The rapper is the ghost of the slane bestfriend of the drummer (Russell) that possessed him to rap on his on this song. Thats actually what the rap verse was about, kinda talking about the world but also telling russell he's still with him he'll guid and protect him

It still amazes me that there are ppl that havent listened songs that when they came out where everywhere, literaly everywhere. Especialy if you know the band, I mean when I hear a song that seems interesting I always search it and i did that even when mobile internet wasnt so much of a thing. Its probably my little mind that cant get how for example there is a metalhead reacting on first time listening to master of puppets..Anyways its things that I dont get and its ok.Happy 2000

I've been neglecting you a bit on here and on twitch but i really love your reactions.

fun fact, the entire beat of Clint Eastwood is a demo preset that Damon Albarn (main music guy behind Gorillaz and the singer) found on his Virus TI synth - hence the tshirt 2-D is wearing.

I'm old AF, so I remember when Gorillaz hit the scene when I was in high school and being blown away! But I JUST found out within the last year that the lead singer is Damon Albarn, who was/is also the lead singer of Blur. I have a kit full of useless knowledge but somehow I missed this one.

"Sunshine in a bag" is quote from "The good, the bad and the ugly" and the line is said by the character played by Clint Eastwood.
