Woodturning - The Weeping Willow

  • In this video I take a piece of Willow and certainly make it weep ..you can probably tell by the video that I made it up as I went along .. I found the grain a bit bland and there was a knot I wasn't keen on, so I did a bit of texturing using a saburr tooth bit and some colouring (if you call black a colour) not sure if I like it but I suppose you need to try theses things .. Thanks for watching.

As a child I would sit, and watch, mesmerized, as Bob Ross created masterpieces on canvas. Today, as an adult, I sit and watch, mesmerized, as Andy Philip creates masterpieces from seemingly useless wood scraps!

Had a weeping willow in my backyard for years. It was huge. One night, during a bad windstorm, it fell. It knocked out about half of the awning (built in back patio cover). The trunk is still laying in the backyard, it's been there for about 2 or 3 years now.

I haven't pressed the dislike button, but I do dislike the final product because I think it's ugly and looks unfinished, regardless of it he varnished it at the end. The little divets were so crudely done and looked really rough. The black paired with the light brown of the willow was also an undesirable colour combination...but that's just my opinion so who cares? Seems like a lot of people like it.

Yeah but that's the fun of woodturning and a lot of these things you learn by experimenting a lot of the time, although andys channel is an absolute goldmine of wonderful ideas and different techniques. My biggest personal tip is find the technique you enjoy and you'll find your own style
