The connectome constrains communication between brain regions. Using intracranial EEG recordings from more than 29 thousand single-pulse stimulation experiments, we show that network communication models computed on structural connectivity, in combination with interregional spatial proximity and functional connectivity, accurately predict cortex-wide effects of direct brain stimulation. Our results illuminate principles of stimulus propagation through white matter connectivity, with implications to basic research on neural information processing and the design of brain stimulation protocols.
