Thank you so much for your help on replacing the flush valve seal on a Mansfield toilet. I truly appreciate your video with step by step instructions. I had replaced the seal with a new one because the handle couldn't flush the toilet. The flush valve seal had deteriorated and was sticking. After I replaced the seal, the toilet began leaking. I watched your video and discovered the problem was that I didn't put the seal in properly - it didn't "spin" like you had mentioned. So I did it again and made sure that the seal could "spin." Now my toilet doesn't leak and the handle can flush it!! Thank you!!
Steven you are the man! Three simple words, "spin the gasket." That made all the difference. I replaced the flush valve seal last night and the toilet was still leaking. The seal wasn't seated properly until I went back in and spun the gasket. It's fixed now, thanks!
Thank you sir. You just helped me solve this same problem I just discovered in my toilet. I just cleaned and adjusted mine to fit tightly inside rather than buy a new one. I just fixed it with your help. Thx 🙏🏼
Thanks for the video. The key is put the flush valve in the top groove, where the it can spin. Don't push the flush valve all the way down, or the toilet will keep leaking. Took me several tries to figure out where the top groove is.
Awesome video!! The tip about the flush valve seal being able to spin without tough force when it's been installed correctly made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. It's a sensitive part!!! Thank you!!
Hey Steven. This is my first post to RUclips! I have to say thanks for this video. Your tip to spin the gasket to make sure it was seated correctly was extremely helpful. I fixed 2 toilets in my house and it saved me a bunch of $$. Got the gaskets at Lowes for $2.25 each!. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Neil
I replaced the gasket and still was leaking. I checked yourvideo and spun the gasket around a few times. That workedgreat! Thank you for the tip and saving me a trip to thehardware store.
I had forgotten how I had done before. Thanks to this tutorial video, I've just fixed the leak and this is my second time to replace it. Looking forward to seeing the next waster bill. Thank you.
Good job Steve. Gotta take care of the paycheck. Never did like the Mansfield toilets. I worked with guys who never knew what Mansfield was. Lol. Everyday is a learning day.
thanks for the video! just bought a house with this style. never dealt with them before. my gasket came right off, but I wanted to see how it all came apart first. very helpful. thank you.
James Ghiorzoe No its not on the handle. It's the red, rubbery ring in the tank that you have to replace. I only paid a little over $2 for one at lowes. Hope that helps.
Steve, I wish my local hardware was as well-stocked as your truck. You got everything in there -- I'm sure it pays off. Nice video, I learned a lot. thanks.
Steve love your videos tks!! just installed a new gasket on my mansfield like your showed on video inside groove. i see no water dripping inside toilet, so i tested tank with red food coloring, next day there was red dye in toilet, whats the fix?? slight leak, i also notice at times i hear water dripping inside tank, if i touch tank handle on outside up and down it goes away. tks mikeb
First Choice Service LLC ( StL MO) i do not like rebuilding toilets a lot of times you will have leakers .. the new flush valves are not so great you are better of replacing the toilets rebuilding them is a rookey move good luck
I replaced the flush valve gasket but there still is a slow leak. #210 Mansfield from Lowe's. The gasket doesn't "spin" in the groove(s). If I push down on the valve it will not leak. Did I buy the wrong size?
Hi Steven. I have the same toilet and water is leaking into the toilet bowl. So I replaced the value just like you showed- quite simple ( I have done this before on other mansfields) but replacing the valve did not fix the problem this time. So I replaced the entire flush valve- did not solve the problem. Water continues to leak into the bowl. From your experience what else could be the problem. I have cleaned everything inside- some people told it could be calcium residue....just struggling to fix this toilet!!
Been watching for a while for entertainment but now I come for useful how to videos just bought a house with a mansfeild throne and its running on a bit
Do you install many Toto toilets? I have them in my house. When I was service plumbing I always kept them in the van to sell to customers. There is allot of good toilets out there though.
weedandwine i use to install toto when i could get them for a good price .now they seem to be over priced . i can get a mansfield of gerber for a better price =more money for me
If replacing the gasket isn't helping with the leak, any idea how to take out the entire flush tower? I was trying to turn it, but it seems really fragile. Mine is the same exact one feom the video. Thanks!
hey Steve I have 3 of these in my home and they all leak. I've replaced the flush valve in all three as well as the shank gaskets but they continue to trickle slowly. Any Ideas?
Have you ever heard of drop-in tank cleaners (you know, those stupid chlorinated pucks) causing these to warp -- I hear they're bad news and don't use them cause I have a septic system -- but, wonder if that could have damaged that gasket...
I'll never buy a Mansfield again. Ours have leaked ever since we bought it. Mansfield sent us new gaskets, but the toilet will still come on at least once or twice a night. We're about to just replace the toilet because we can't fix it. We've changed everything on the inside. Consumer Reports even said this is one of the worse toilets to buy.
+FestusHaggen1 sometimes its the poslin under the fill valve is not smooth and the gasket does not seal properly .best to just change the toilet there not really that much money .
I have the same brand toilet. And it started to leak from a gasket and screw. I changed it didn't see more leaking. But then later i notist behind the toilet tank was sweating so i though maybe is because is freezing here where i lived. Then i notist water every where the floor around the base to but not in front of the base only in the back and sides. I think it will need new gasket and maybe the one that's in between the tank and toilet. I had filled all the tank then in the night when to check in to it the tank was empty.
I have sort of the same problem but the thing is the water is not cut enough so a little bit is draining into the water area and some of it's going back into the bowl for some reason my pump is not shutting off the water when it gets to a certain spot
Those are strange parts. Never heard of Mansfield. Have American Standard and Kohler toilets here. But that legend valve sucks. My contractor installed quarter turn ball valve for shutoff. Easier to use, lasts longer.
steven lavimoniere What? Ok. I will have to hear why. I even had my new ball valve installed on my shutoff for washer. That's when I first found you on RUclips. I got ball valves everywhere, even on main line and sprinklers!! I hope I don't have to replace these, but I'm moving so it be good to know for my next home.
Domo, I have to agree. I've been using 1/4 turn ball valves for years and never had an issue. On the other hand, have never installed a gate valve like in this vid, but I've seen a bunch of those fail- both by leaking water on to the floor, and by not being able to fully shut off, causing continuous water running. I'm intrigued by your take on it Steven. Why not share a link to the vid you've described- I'm dying to find out why you might think the 1/4 turn ball valves are inferior to the gate valves. Thanks
SkyLimitTV wrong kind of flapper in there you need a 1.6 gallon flush tank flapper .you must have a replacement in there letting to much water out thats why you get a double flush
Thanks, now to go gasket hunting. My 8th grade shop teacher had us use acetylene torch to braze nut and bolt and washer toilet dude...mine wasn't that good 🚽
steven lavimoniere yeah a smaller one like u said and larger one , I seen the handles bust because there is alot of pressure pulling up the flush assembly , just wondering if u come across any issues .
WARNING: using those back of toilet bleach/blue cleaner desolving bars....will destroy your red seal. i have one toliot i use those cleaner pop-ins on,and 2 i don't (all mansfeild) the one seal of the cleaner bar toilet looks like a wavy mess and will not sealat all. other 2 are fine
I was looking for the video that shows how to fix the handle it broke now I can't flush my toilet bc the plastic part that goes into the toilet broke off

Hao Jiang You can see 4 notches in the old gasket at perfect 90° intervals. It was in the wrong (lower) grove before.
Awesome video!! The tip about the flush valve seal being able to spin without tough force when it's been installed correctly made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. It's a sensitive part!!! Thank you!!
The tip to spin the gasket was a huge time saver! It's funny that the simplest thing can make a world of a difference. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your tip on spinning the new gasket after installation to make sure that it's on correctly. That did it!
Hey Steven. This is my first post to RUclips! I have to say thanks for this video. Your tip to spin the gasket to make sure it was seated correctly was extremely helpful. I had forgotten how I had done before. Thanks to this tutorial video, I've just fixed the leak and this is my second time to replace it. Looking forward to seeing the next waster bill. Thank you.
❤ Thanks you for this video. Quick, concise and simple. My wife was very happy. Lol and I was very happy. I didn’t have to be a plumber.
Thanks a million for this video, you are helping humanity! I fixed my toilet in 5 min.
Good job Steve. Gotta take care of the paycheck. Never did like the Mansfield toilets. I worked with guys who never knew what Mansfield was. Lol. Everyday is a learning day.
Kyran Speiser i work on a lot of mansfield toilets . myself i like them . they flush good also
thanks for the video! just bought a house with this style. never dealt with them before. my gasket came right off, but I wanted to see how it all came apart first. very helpful. thank you.
Shawn Mclaughlin thanks for the comment
Toilet handle was difficult to press down on, changed the flush valve and now I can press down on it with ease. Thanks for your video.
+Shay Williams glad i could help
+Shay Williams Having the same issue you did. Is the flush valve the black thing that pulled off of the handle? Thanks.
James Ghiorzoe No its not on the handle. It's the red, rubbery ring in the tank that you have to replace. I only paid a little over $2 for one at lowes. Hope that helps.
+Shay Williams Thank you for your help.
Thanks for the video, Steve. I am having another issue with the same type of Mansfield toilet but your video helped me resolve it.
+James Ghiorzoe glad i could help
Thanks Steve, your video explained how the Mansfield gasket is replaced ! Almost as easy as my old flapper style !
Steven is a real working man y'all!!!!!!! next level y'all!!
I have the same exact toilet and gasket structure, most other videos have a different assembly, so thanks for this.
That was the key at about 3:45....'you want it spinning in there nicely". Thank you. I'll let our maintenance man know.
Thank you for the video, very useful. I had no experience with this flush valves.
+Jay Brown thanks for the comment
Steve, I wish my local hardware was as well-stocked as your truck. You got everything in there -- I'm sure it pays off. Nice video, I learned a lot. thanks.
Straycurrent i try to carry what i might need in that truck . more stuff in there then you know lol
This guy is neat & organized like Me!
Steve love your videos tks!! just installed a new gasket on my mansfield like your showed on video inside groove. i see no water dripping inside toilet, so i tested tank with red food coloring, next day there was red dye in toilet, whats the fix?? slight leak, i also notice at times i hear water dripping inside tank, if i touch tank handle on outside up and down it goes away. tks mikeb
That big mess of parts. ...bam subscribed, he knows what he is doing!
Friday I will be rebuilding 4 toilets in one house I'll try and get some video. Good repair steven.
First Choice Service LLC ( StL MO) i do not like rebuilding toilets a lot of times you will have leakers .. the new flush valves are not so great you are better of replacing the toilets rebuilding them is a rookey move good luck
+ Steven lavimoniere I would argue the opposite.
I replaced the flush valve gasket but there still is a slow leak. #210 Mansfield from Lowe's. The gasket doesn't "spin" in the groove(s). If I push down on the valve it will not leak. Did I buy the wrong size?
+Gerald Bergevin try another gasket
Thanks, but I bought a Korky Universal complete repair kit for $20 @ Lowe's. Hope I did the right thing.
It worked . Thank you. Have to remember to make it move around for it to be in its right place. Thanks !!!

thanks for the video but i had to remove the tank and now i am getting leaking of water by the tank bolts. Do you have any tips?
spinning the gasket was critical! thank you
Nice Job Steve, Happy cust, No bill.
Arnie Grote well its with in a year so ... why bill him
Man thanks for this video i just fixed my Mansfield toilet
That was educational. I have never seen that type of flush valve before
Jared F its a mansfield toilet
I tried replacing the red gasket, but I still get a leak. Should I replace the whole insides?
i have the same set up ..i changed it and it is-still leaking!..toilet only 5 years old ..should i get another one to try? thank you!
Have you ever heard of drop-in tank cleaners (you know, those stupid chlorinated pucks) causing these to warp -- I hear they're bad news and don't use them cause I have a septic system -- but, wonder if that could have damaged that gasket...
n3lee yes they can damage the flapper i have seen them melt a flapper if the water level was low
Helpful, but did you have to include 2 minutes of rummaging through your "stuff"?
+Gary Hattan yes i did,, its all part of the video .if you don't like it don't watch pretty simple
hey steve, I'm sure it's been asked before - just wondering what camera your using these days... thanks !
***** i been using a sony ,wx300
Precisely my problem. Perfect video. Thanks!
not sure what you mean by spin the gasket ?

Nice repair Steve
Harry Dickson thanks harry
Mansfield flush valve is over designed with that prone to fail goofy gasket, old style flapper is more familiar and easier to get parts for
Steve, Nice Job. thanks for the tip
S Sam something different .
What causes a toilet to double flush?
SkyLimitTV wrong kind of flapper in there you need a 1.6 gallon flush tank flapper .you must have a replacement in there letting to much water out thats why you get a double flush

Nice job Steve
justin henning thanks for the comment
steven lavimoniere do u come across many plastic toilet handles that break due to the style flush valve( I call it flush tower) like I do ?
no to many its called a candle stick flush valve there are 2 styles this one is the smaller style .
steven lavimoniere yeah a smaller one like u said and larger one , I seen the handles bust because there is alot of pressure pulling up the flush assembly , just wondering if u come across any issues .
if the handles are breaking sometimes changing the rubber flapper will fix that problem .
Mine does the same. Leaks water after it’s filled up. I’m getting new one Amercian standard.
Mine goes out every few years , Home Depot has em not Lowe’s. 2 dollar fix. Wtg Mansfield.
steven lavimoniere Nice fix my bro.
thanks for the support willie

When in doubt, call steven
Nhatz thanks for the support

so annoying watching you dig through your toilet parts for a flapper
It would be nice if he spoke English.
get your drawer organized before you shoot a video.
