I would love to see Stick-Tricks during Licks and Grooves like Cooper Drummer uses them often...
Do you have a sheat notes
I love that consistent hi-hat "chick" you keep going. I have not been able to do that. I think I need to work on that a LOT. :) Thank you for sharing your passion with us. You're an inspiration brother.
Yes! Great comment! The hihat was the first thing I noticed. It's so simple, yet so expressive and cohesive. When the hands are busy doing other stuff, that simple add of the left foot can make such a difference to the overall cohesion of the rhythm.
Honestly although I was made fully aware of, and probably did practice left foot steady eighths on hats a bit back in the day, it wasn't until years of gigging later ...noticed I was doing it quite naturally actually. Many drum "skills" can conveniently ...just fall right into place, once we're committed to playing with other 🐈. Join a band.
Just do it! = Truly the best advice for younger/learning musicians.
* Musicianship grows no faster than when engaged with solid accompaniment.
I lose balance on my throne. I think I'm not sitting right.
I love the flams on the snare. Seems to work well in contrast to the Tom’s!
+1
Time stamping, this will be my lessons for this week or probably months 🙂

Fantastic stuff.... I just hit my first year drumming at 64 years old.... and this gives me plenty to practice and feast on!
Thanks Jeff.... you’re awesome! 👍
Love to hear that! Have fun with 'em.
5:06 sounds incredible on 1.25 speed. I worked on that triplet rhythm on the Toms and looped in around. Jeez, this reminds me of Phil Collins and his partner performing in triplet rhythm towards the audience. You could hear the audience clapping along on every beat cause they really can’t stop feeling the lively groove of the triplet groove. Adding accents to it on off beats just sounds even more musical to keep the rhythm going. Also let’s not forget, the hi-hat being added on every beat while simultaneously doing the triplets gets you to feel the lovely shuffle through the drum kit. I won’t stop playing this Tom rhythmic triplet pattern at all, exceptionally good for fills and getting people moving. Thanks a lot Jeff, your teachings really helped me become an incredible drummer, being drumming for like 8 years and now on grade 7 nearly grade 8. Just wait this year in September to play that incredible drum beat to get students moving in my Secondary School if I have time or get permission by the staff members. They are bound to dance along with this groove thanks to your teaching Jeff. I wish you a happy summer 👏😄😎☀️
If you want to really dig into tom based rhythms, latin, Cuban, and
African rhythms are a great way to go. There's the strict rhythms and then all the variations which equal a well of rhythmic resources to dip into when the music calls for it.
That’s a great call Marty!
Simple and genius! My workouts for nex few weeks! Thanks!
I have to say for me, a beginner, this is one of the best videos I've seen for toms. I love these "must know" grooves for the expansion of kit knowledge. Now I gotta put in the work. Thanks man!
Man this is really helpful. Lessons worth to spend time and study. Awesome grooves.
Hi Jeff: I'm Allan Schwartzberg studio / tour drummer who played the Funky President beat for James Brown. Congrats on your channel You're putting out some cool valuable stuff.
ive only been playing for a like 5 months or so and these are actually really great for me to try and learn. thanks
January, 2024. Thank you so much! 🔥
This is the video I always wanted but never thought anyone cared enough to make, thank you so much ❤️
Very cool! Most appreciated as I love using the toms! More toms for the salad!!!
Practical, Useful, and Brief... THX a million 🤏👍🙏
Finally ! It is high time I tried these beats on my own drum set and see how it goes , Thx Jeff :)
For sure bud, have fun!
Thank you, 70 year old beginner and loving it.
As a beginner drummer, thank you. I love Tom beats.
Great stuff. No need for blazing speed to create cool sound. Thanks Jeff.
This is just great! I could not have asked for more to start improving (pattern-wise) on this topic. Thank you so much Jeff!!
I like those fitting names for each beat. Nice stuff.
Dude, I LOVE THIS!!! There seems to be this whole narrative of "we've outgrown the toms" lately??? Toms offer possibilities for MELODY, something that doesn't come easy on our instrument. I look at toms like razor blades, is 5 better than 3???...🤔...probably. Is 10 better than 5???...I wouldn't say so. There's a sweet spot and it's different for everyone. I will say that it's simple math. More toms, more potential melodies! (Keep up the good work Jeff, you Rock! 🥁🔥)
A fun little more advanced thing I like to try with stuff like this.... Once I get these beats down to the point that I could play them in my sleep, with my RIGHT HAND I will substitute ride, bell, or stack hit every 3rd eighth note. It's awkward at first because I'm creating a polyrhythm in there with that right hand, but that's why I make sure I have the basic beat down REALLY well before moving onto this. Try it! You can also do like every 2nd or 4th eighth note until you get a good feel for it if it's too hard at the beginning. If you do that though it won't be much of a polyrhythm. That's why I suggest using odd numbers for these. Sometimes I have to start off really, and I mean REALLY slow just so my brain and motor movements can lock it in. But once you got it, then you got it. :) PS - The groove in this video at 4:42 is almost exactly like in the link below (and I bet that's where Jeff got this beat from ;) ).....If you're doing this tom groove (which is a GREAT first one to try this with!), which has a triplet feel, then you'll want to use even numbers on your eighth notes for hitting the ride/bell/stack. In the following example, the triplet tom groove starts at 7;26 and then the stack is hit every 2nd (or every other) eighth note played starting at 7;56 - ruclips.net/video/TS6kqBllgGU/видео.html
Been in a fill rut for ages and this helps out a lot, cheers!
I can hear so much tool in my head as I listen to this
Hej Jeff, Very nice to see your channel, you have a great style to teach.
Thanx, mate! 🎉
Awesome! I wanna learn some of them defenitely!
Wonderful🤠 Several great tom beats in one tutorial.
The first Tom beat reminds me of the beat in the chorus of Favorite Thing by the Replacements. Excellent song.
Thanks. Found these related to krautrock beats played by Jaki Liebezeit in early 70s.
Great interesting ideas
I'm 69 years old started playing about 9 or 10 years old. That was cool and easy to snatch on to. Thanks. Ill be drilling with those beats. Some of um I have in my collection of happy smacks but now I got more. Thanks again

The excerpt on the intro reminded me (very happily) of the Tom groove in 'snot' by Snot
Thank you! I’ve got a very minimal vocabulary of tom-based beats so this is a great resource.

Jeff flexing his side profile while telling his name is worth a million likes by itself

What a nice lesson !!!!
Thanks very much!
Good 👍🏼
You should record these on an e-kit into a daw and put the midi up on your patreon c:
Love your videos, really helpful and can't wait to see what comes out of the new whsiper room. But I gotta question about this one, in particular on beat two, your hihat leg actually moves "twice" the tempo to what the hihat does. Care to elaborate on this technique at some point?
GREAT DRUM CHANNEL ...
Excellent work Jeff! Beat 15 is just asking to be played open-handed...
Thanks! Yeah, that’s a good call.
