I hope you all have some fun with these! Btw, I'm available for online lessons and would love to work with you! For details: JeffRandallDrumming.com
Randall, you're a beast, been fun watching one of your students advance- you should have suggest this as a rudiment for him (S.O.) using the QOTSA Grohl licks! He's a Zeppelin nut who you've been doing jazz and foot technique with a lot I believe.
in 2 weeks I've become a better drummer than I could have ever imagined as a result of watching your videos and practing the techniques 2-3 hours every day. Incredible teacher and great content. Keep up the great work man.
Jeff Randall, you're an amazing teacher and man, your drum sound soooo good! Perfectly mixed as well !
Thanks so much Nathan!
What this dude said!
Best herta vid on RUclips , straight forward and applicable
Thanks man!
Why do I feel like I'm being taught by a big brother when I watch these
I LOVE your drumming! Such a drive and intensity. Just hearing you groove makes me smile.
I've never really liked the hertas and the blushdas, because I've really never managed to learn to use them. They always sound like a train wreck. Therefore I've stopped trying.
But I love hearing you make them sooo smooth and integrated in your fills. ❤
Thank you Jeff. You are very generous and the knowledge you share enhances my life! Thank you!!
Very useful!!! Thanks Jeff!!!
Amazing licks!!!!
GENIUS play on words!! 😂💪💪
I was so proud of myself when I came up with it! Haha
@@JeffRandallDrumming 😆👊🙌
I really laughed 😆
Perfect video! With the subtleties that only you know how to teach us!
Love it! Thanks
Thanks!
Muchas gracias, nuevamente!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌💯
Amaizing lessons! Good visual, transcriptions, work with tempo and just aaawesome grooves!. Thanks a lot for your work!
Such tasty fills!
nice fills !
You killed it the last 2-weeks. Thanks so much!!
Thanks Charles! Means a lot coming from a long-time viewer like yourself.
Kit sounds killer! Especially that snare. Huge sound.
Mistrzostwo świata! Tego mi było trzeba. Dziękuję i proszę o więcej 😉
Sooooooooo clean ! Thanks Jeff !!!
For sure Eliott!
I really like this rudiment... I like the way you give mixology examples.
i love all these fills ! Thank you so much for an amazing lesson !!!
You’re very welcome!
Very nice video. Thx
Thanks for your tutos ! :)
Absolutely!
Excellent! Keep these videos coming!
Thanks, definitely will do man!
I love it 🥁
Frickin' love the one with bark..
😂Love it. Great fills thanks man
your articulation is phenomenal
Always so groovy! Definitely one of my favorite drummers ❤
Thanks man!
Dude your videos are top-notch. You deserve way more views and I'm sure you'll get them. You're an awesome teacher and make advanced concepts easy to understand. I look forward to seeing your YT trajectory because you really know what you're doing, and it shows.
Hey, that means a ton bud. Definitely in this thing for the long haul. Let’s see what happens!
So good
yeeeessss Jeff really needed this lesson been waiting for a decent herta fill lesson,
and your the man to give it us, thanks Jeff
massively helpful as always man. keep ripping up drums man your insane.
Thanks Jeff! Nice breakdown of the herta...I will have to try these variations. 👍🏼
Hope you have fun with ‘em Robert.
So cool
Finding myself binge watching your stuff this morning and not getting any work done. Juicy beats.
Meshuggah fans are confused when they hear this rhythm not being played on the kicks 😸
Great video, nice and clear explanations, great sounding kit. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man!
How good your drums sound is herta ING my heart
What a fine sounding kit .....and playing.
I have set myself a challenge; to play these fills using a couple of Herta hot dog sausages rather than sticks....
Bahaha, well done sir. Now I'm regretting not using those as a gag in the video. Next time...
And we can slip the herta into our groove as a micro-fill.
Carter Beauford's favorite fill lol. Great video!
If I had to describe every video in this channel into few words, it would be Quality and usefulness. Thank you Jeff ;)
I was getting crazy about playing these riffs properly, your explanation makes everything look so easy. Not a RUclips fan but you definitely deserved my subscription 👌
I'm the same way bud! Don't let the videos fool you... I'm doing multiple takes to get things to sound as good as I can. But these are no joke to pull off! Let's all embrace the suck together.
Smokin licks and variations. Great vid.
Thanks Steve
Best herta vid. Brilliant!
Thank you!
Got the "herta/hurta" joke in as well!!
Love it man, love the lessons
Dude. I really get a lot from your videos. Very musical and on the money!
This is sickkkk
PARABÉNS, VC EXCELENTE MÚSICO. SUAS TÉCNICAS SÃO PRECISAS E SEUS VÍDEOS ÓTIMO!!
you deserve more than 1M Sub ! Thanks a lot idol.😇
Really freakin good presentation, sound and execution! I'm subscribed! Just wonderful to see talent like this on the tube. I may very well drop you a dime to see your material. Thank you sir.
Thanks very much!
My mans killing it with these videos, you deserve ALL the views my man. Keep up the good work, the praise will come 🙏🏼❤️🥁
I've got faith man! Thanks for the support in the meantime.
Really good Tutorial. Very clear, good explanations, and just the right amount of explanations, not too much, not too little. (Sorry, no native speaker)
1:30 - wowza!
The last advanced herta fill is sick🤤
Yeah man, that's one tasty mufkah.
Man, you have the meatiest backbeat I've ever heard.
Thanks man! That 14x6.5 brass snare is definitely helping!
Loveeeee uuuu bro
Your lessons are always GREAT! and I love how you explain things, and have the sticking on the screen, but I think if you could have another angle with the camera to see the toms more( you know what I mean ) that would be awesome!
love u bro , xx
An observation about this type of teaching video is that to learn it if you're not a pro you gotta hear the fast part first a few times.
If you made a drum vst with that sound I would buy it!
Great video as always! i cant understand that dislike, keep drumming!
Thanks bud! Will do.
I used to make fun of Jeff his serial killer thumb nails and being in a storage unit wasn't helping that image lol but man what a drummer and everything he teaches as he goes easy to follow no random (industry terminology) that you wont understand. Jeff has become 1 of the top 3 i turn to when im stuck and need some education to move forward. And damn since those first years to present day what a journey
great video title :')
Admittedly, I often thought of the herta fill as…annoying. And only occasionally good on garbage can endings. But, man - did you give me some new stuff to think about. Awesome job.
Wow I never herta this fill! I've heard it played and maybe did one once but didn't realize it had a name!
Wow, I'm surprised to hear that from you Joel! I thought this thing was almost over-covered. Really glad I made the video now.
Came here to show my respects to this pun.
I know this lesson was a while back now but can I get a kit breakdown? Drums and cymbals - both sound fantastic! And thank you for the great lesson, great stuff!
Thank so much Jeff
Please share technique mix the drum for making cover
You're very welcome bud! I have a video breaking down my mixing process that you can check out here: ruclips.net/video/jy8MVgggMMU/видео.html
@@JeffRandallDrumming Thanks again bud!
That 1990 comment herta my feelings to be honest...
Likewise, boom kabaabomm..💥💥💥💥
Niiiiice. I'm digging your cymbals; what are you using? Thanks 🖤
Herta.... It looks so simple, but why I still don't use it? Anyway thank you for the idea, I can't wait to practice )
Sick! I’ve been so into learning these lately so glad to stumble on this one. By the way, random question: What cymbals do you use?
Yeah I know I'm late but from the thumbnail it looks like he's playing K kustoms. At least that's what the hi-hats are.

Rad my friend
Thanks man!
Delicious
🙏🏻
Not 1990! Haha gold. Excluding Carter Beauford of course... Dude is the herta king.
Yeah man, we can all blame/thank Carter for popularizing playing that lick down the toms! He just does it so well.
how do you combine it with a song about 130bpm ? this is crazy 😅, any tips ?
5:04
So seems starting w the two 32nds is the preferred way to play it based on your exercise and fill examples? || | |
Analyzing the way I've been playing them is I diddle the first two 16ths instead of alternate - replacing w singles is taking some getting used to ;-(
Yeah, I find that I can get more power from the alternating strokes!
Sick! Hey quick question about your cymbals. Noticed you use rides for crashes. Any reason you don’t use actual crashes?
Thanks Ryan! I got into using rides for crashes back when I started learning jazz in college. I also got into drummers like Steve Jordan and Ronnie Vannucci who use rides because of their darker sound and longer sustain. For that reason they tend to blend with the rest of the kit a bit better than brighter and faster cymbals. Plus they look insane! Haha.
@@JeffRandallDrumming very cool.. Thanks for the reply!
For sure!
Since when did the guys from Workaholics start playing instruments?? Rock on bröther 🤟🏻
6:19 5:55
It almost starts to sound like some kind of flam fill
You kan even add your kick if you want
That super awkward moment when you realise that you are so 1990 😳
isn`t a herta another name for a 32nd note
Jeff is this what John Bonham does on the last bridge in Stairway to Heaven?
It's close! Bonham swap's out the last right for a kick though. His is RLr K RLr K.
Great Jeff I appreciate it
Dang it I hurta'd myself!!!!
So that's the John Bonham feel.
He just uses them as throwaways.
That’s right!
I find it kinda weird doing it the way you are doing it bc although it's noted as a triplet and a 16th note you are playing it like a flam tap and a 16th note. I understand that you are accenting the first 2 notes of the triplet and then sorta ghost noting the third but it still sounds like a flam tap.
Что за groov? Ноты в студию! Пожалуйста!
i did herta myself.
gives me flam vibes
Dude, we need to do a flam fill video as well! Just added it to the list.
No lick is “ cheesy”. A song may be, a drummer may be but the lick? It just a series of notes. Nice video. Thanks.
It's not 1990🤣👍
Ok sorry but why is it called a herta fill?
Literally no idea! Let me know if/when you find out.
How old are you? You sound like 40
No no no, thats to cheesy and sloppy in my ears. Check out how for example portnoy plays the herta; the last hit is the loudest, r l r L! Sound much better i think!😊
