    Been on my 98's for a few seasons now. They are indeed killer! Double blacks on blackcomb, trees at big white, big open pitches and long groomers at sun peaks, powder at manning, and all of the sidehits at seymour.... I'm never really disappointed on this ski.
    For the deepest of days, I would love the blank or even something wider, and for upping my carving game amd laying trenches I'd love some GS skis, but for 90% of my skiing this ski is the clear choice.
    I'm glad there are others that appreciate this ski as much as I do!

    I bought a pair of QST 98s this year. I hadn't had a new pair of skis in a very long time (skied heavily in the 90s but hadn't been in 20 years). I demo'd several different pairs, including the Enforcer 94s, which I didn't really like. I thought I was the only person who wasn't a fan of the Enforcers until I found this channel. And it turns out you love the QSTs also! Great minds 😆
    But yeah, the QSTs are sooo much fun! Great on groomers, but even better in trees, bumps, and soft snow. Just a phenomenal feel.

    I just bought these yesterday at Snowshoe 40% off! I demoed about 10 different sets of all mountain skis before settling on these which were a clear winner by their ability to handle the ice and slop were easy on the legs. I’m excited to take these out west, and really see what they can do on powder and in the trees❤ love your reviews.

    Thanks to you and your reviews I was guided into getting a nice pair of demoed QST 92. my question though is that they did come with sliding rail bindings which I’m not familiar with. I guess those are adjustable demo bindings. Do you see any downside to keeping those on the ski or should I have them remounted with my fix findings from my old Rossignol skis?

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  10 месяцев назад

      Demo Bindings have the upside that they're easy to adjust and can make your skis easier to share with friends. But if you have a fixed pair that you like, the performance on those will probably be a bit better. I would talk to someone at a shop you trust too, because depending on which bindings have a better din range etc. Might affect what's a better fit for you.
      But if it were me I would put the fixed bindings on my new skis, and then use the demo bindings on an old pair of skis that I could loan out to friends from out of town or something.

    Recently discovered your channel and have found it super helpful! Been about 10 years since I last skied after doing a few seasons as an instructor when I was younger. So I’m back in the market for my own gear again. Last pair was K2 apache’s which back then were apparently an all mountain ski at late 70’s in the waist.
    My challenge is in a small skier 128lbs and 5 foot 3 (160cm) Would you recommend the qst 92 at 160? Or go smaller?
    I ski in Europe mainly in resort, so lots of groomers with the occasional off piste for part of the day.

    Elliot, did you ever test or try the QST 92? Any thoughts or impressions? I live in the midwest and think that could be a great all around ski. Groomers/soft snow/trees are where I normally ski.

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  10 месяцев назад +2

      I did not, but the QST 98 is so close with only being 6mm different, that I would have no issue recommending them, and in fact recommend them to my personal friends. If you like skiing groomers and want a ski that can explore the trees and powder I think it's a great pick, and right now it's at a great price at sub $400 and it's only a top sheet change for the 2024.
      But Full Disclosure, I have not skied on that specific ski yet, only the Salomon QST 98, which is very similar.

    Great review! Btw I’ve been shopping for a 90 ish mm all mountain ski that I can use in utah and Colorado as true all mountain… if I find powder it’ll float well, if I want to try some trees they maneuver well, comfortable in moguls, but most importantly I want it to feel at home on groomers carving, especially if I hit hard snow or ice. I have my carving ski and my powder ski and I love them, but man that powder ski kills me when I see a nice groomer. Do you think QST in the 90 mm range would fit the bill? Btw I mainly ski east coast so def want it comfortable there too. Thx!!!

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes totally! I have a friend in a similar boat, and I recommended the Qst 92 for them. Full Disclosure I have not skied it, but with only being 6mm's smaller than the ski in the video, I have little hesitation in recommending it. It skis great in the woods, and has good flotation while still carving well on the groomers. A very comfortable ski to carve on.
      For the East, just make sure you keep them tuned, so you can hold your edge on the "boiler plate" days.
      It's also worth mentioning, the Skis I actually bought, and that I would take back East to see family would be the Atomic Maverick 88Ti. But those are a little bit stronger in the groomed runs. Just worth considering, and being fully transparent. The QST's I bought are 106 and kind of a designated powder/ tree ski.
      If you want to see what I bought myself here's a video on my quiver for the 23/24 season: ruclips.net/video/Jh_AfVSsH_A/видео.htmlsi=zAlaXvLkTCFtEiyq

      @@RicketySkiReviews thx for the response! And actually my current “all mountain “ ski for the east is the elan wingman 86cti which I love. I ski Snowshoe West Virginia regularly so almost no tree runs, just a few tight glades. I figured I’d still use this ski on average days at Snowshoe, but I tend to bring all my skis there since it’s a road trip lol so that’s why I wanted the ski to at least work on east coast terrain. My 106 Blaze is just too much 99% of the time in West Virginia. I’d want this ski to basically be a do all for my trips to Utah and Colorado. Like if I didn’t want to travel with 2 pair of skis , having 1 that would be good enough everywhere. I don’t like bringing the wingman out west because if I bring 2 skis (max I travel with on a plane) I usually bring the Blaze 106 and my 72mm carving ski, but if there’s not a pow day in the forecast I’d rather bring a carving ski and an all mountain that will float in some pow but still carve, because any time I use that 106 I love it off trail but I always end up back on groomers and I immediately want to switch skis lol. Would you think the QST 92 or the maverick 88ti in my case. Basically if I can only take 1 ski out west on a short trip. (I know the maverick is the clear choice for east coast) Note :I’m planning to demo both of these if I can this year lol. Thanks again and I appreciate your straightforward content!

Meanwhile, I found the QST 106 on the evo website with a 165cm size. I mainly ski in Whistler on the west coast of BC. • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  9 месяцев назад

      Great question, what setting are you talking? On the groomers if you like 176 stick with 176 because they feel true to size. If you're talking Powder/ Trees, they definitely feel shorter than they are with float and easy edge to edge turning so a 183 would probably be fine in that setting.

    • @user-iw1vc3tn8b
      @user-iw1vc3tn8b 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the answer. Thinking these would make a good Western ski (I have narrower Eastern skis). When I am out there, I am looking more off trail, but the reality at my age (old) it will prob end up 50/50 on/off. More concerned with ability to quickly turn on steeps/bumps than charge long choppy lines or groomers, so if they are pretty true to size I'll probably stick with the 176's.@@RicketySkiReviews

    Picked up a pair of the QST98 based on all the rave reviews. While all the praise is very true, at 6'2" 280lbs they are not an ideal ski for me. At lower speeds they feel great and float well but as I go to push at higher speeds they just do not have the power I need. While I can go fast, it feels much more out of control than what I want to ride daily. Glad I bought them, but won't be my go to pair.

  • @leander9263
    @leander9263 2 месяца назад

    15:15 is a heavier ski really going to sink in the powder more?
    I understand float from a physics point of view in that it has to do with displacement per weight and therefore density which checks out with the weight statement BUT consider this:
    An 80kg skier wears 4kg boots and has 2kg bindings (and some other stuff, don't picture them naked).
    Now they have a 1600g (say bent 110) vs a 2400g (some enforcer) as extreme examples.
    That weight difference should not matter on the bottom line with float. It's not only the skis that ride themselves down the slope.
    Maybe heavier skis don't float less. Maybe they only create that illusion somehow?
    Maybe for instance a lighter ski allows the leg muscless of the skier to pull the up more after compressing a platform mid turn therefore feeling floaty?
    What do you think

  • @EggsTeaSea
    @EggsTeaSea 10 месяцев назад +1

    If you're only going off piste when conditions are favorable (soft dry snow) you don't ever need a ski wider than 100. You also don't need metal HOWEVER don't be scared off of ALL metal skis. Some skis have metal only around the bindings for more support, but the tips and still flexible and easy to turn. But really, a light ski is all a ton of people need. The qst98 is about 2050g in 189, most people are skiing something wayt shorter so itll likely be in the 1700-1800g range which is perfect for these kinds of skiers.
    Another + of skis like the QST98 is that they are excellent for people who are new to skiing off piste but generally feel more comfortable on piste. This is *THE TREND* right now and for good reason. The Enforcers and Bent 100 are having their design flaws exposed by these nice accommodating skis that also have fantastic performance 90% of resort conditions.
    Other skis to look out for when wanting to demo QST98's but you can't quite find them: (These aren't identical every ski has it's niche but I'm talking about the skis with similar performance/accommodations)

    WE NEED MORE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Your channel is one of the only channels that actually critiques skis. Curated, Ski Essentials, etc. are just painting with a broad stroke over every ski they review with words like playful and all-mountain. I am not sure how anyone could differentiate between the Atomic Bent 110 vs insert any other ski Curated has reviewed because they don't talk about the specific use case for skis or really mentioned negatives. I assume they are just trying to appease all of the ski brands sending them skis every single year to review, but it does a disservice to so many skiers out there trying to find a ski that will work for them. However, this isn't unique to RUclips videos. I have a friend who, having only taken ski lessons before and being an absolute newbie, walked into a shop in Denver and came out with Atomic Bent 110s. The dude is just learning how to ski, isn't even touching powder or thinking about going into the park, and is now riding Atomic Bent 110s (They even had him on 172 length at 5'11'' at that. Talk about a horrible ski experience.).
