Unless you have a very close relationship with the person and spend enough time with them to know exactly what they want or need and the size they are, don't buy specific items. Usually you just gifted the person the chore of doing a return and then looking for something at the same store which does not always work out. A great gift is cash. Then the person can buy whatever they want or need like groceries, gas, a new wallet, pay down a debt, etc.

East Coast daily driver?

I'm 53 y/o, 6', 200lbs, and skied my new 179 Octos for the first time yesterday at Timberline. Cold, bluebird groomer day and it was so much fun. 27 runs all over the mountain, including the top of the Mile to the bottom of Molly's. The Mile in November!?!!?!? Fast, maneuverable, no chatter. What a great ski and great companion to my 184 Corvus. Highly recommended!

Hey I have a question about sizing and ski to use as a daily driver/safe bet. I am standing at 155 cm and would consider myself as an advanced skier out on the East coast and considering a wider ski for my trips out west. The QST 98 seems awesome. Between 152 vs 160; what would be the best size? What ski would be a good option that may come between those sizes?

DOOOOOD! So I had my Hestra henrik windstedt mitts in the oven (turned off) at 150* with snow seal on. I told my wife they were in there for another 15’ or if she needed the oven to take them out first. She forgot and torched them. Ce la vie. No more Hestra’s. I ordered the Hestra free ride czone mitt on EVO as a replacement and now I’m worried that is a bad choice as people say they don’t breathe. I ski at mission ridge so I wanted a water resistant lining but I’d like your opinion.

I love the videos. I live in Utah and currently have a qst 98. I was curious if a qst 106 would be worth adding to the quiver as I have heard they ski very differently. If not the qst 106 what are some other recommendations for deeper powder days in Utah?

If you are searching for freestyle Skiis that have good value I would recommend the Völkl revolt line. Love your Videos Elliot I appreciate that you are honest unlike the majority of the ski RUclips scene which is sponsored.

Always Best Bang for your Buck: A 2 year old ski with chewed up topsheet but MINTY bases. Mount up, couple passes with an edge sharpener, how can you go wrong.

Some other ideas. The Nordica steadfast 85 appears quite competitive for the price. Another one I loved when I demoed it last year was the Dynastar M-cross 88, I instantly clicked with them. The new Rossi Arcade 84 was pretty good too and the price dropped compared to the experience line it's replacing. Rossignol (and Dynastar) are quite popular over here in Quebec and there was so many demo days to try them.

Hey! Been loving the videos and have helped me choose a lot of my gear. I am pretty hung up on boots right now. I know that boot fits are highly personalized and might be hard to give a recommendation, but.... So I am in my third year of skiing and would say I am pretty intermediate. I am also a pretty heavy skier, 240, and 6'2. I am coming from a very soft boot salomon qst 70. It might be a skill thing, Ive never had any lessons but I felt the boot might not be stiff enough to for me, but I might not know what I am talking about at all. I have managed to get a new setup (minus boots, still shopping deals and figuring things out) but I grabbed a Faction 3 prodigy and am hoping to find a boot that'll lend itself to some off-piste, freeride/freeski sorta vibe. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Splitting hairs on ski reviews because they are all very close within the same genre of skiing and ski conditions have more to do with the performance within similar abilities. Experts testing beginner skis does not make their review very valid and intermediates testing expert skis or race skis is laughable. Most people can grab a ski off the rack wishing their price range and type of skiing they want to use them for within their weight and ability levels and go have a ton of fun.

Question: I have an old pair of nordica dobbermann slr (156cm 11m radius). I love them but they are almost done. 1.5mm of edge left. Any recommendations for a new 11m radius beer league slalom ski?

New to the channel and love the content! As someone who is pretty new to skiing, I was surprised to hear that the Salomon QST 98 is possibly slightly *better* on powder than the Peak 104 but much worse on groomers. From my understanding, more width is better for powder, so why is the 98 worse for groomers but better on powder than the 104? Thanks!

I live in Utah and have the qst 98, should I add the qst 106 to my quiver or is there too much overlap between the skis. I hear the 98 is very different from the 106.

I’m not a skier (I snowboard, the rest of my family skis), but I see Nikolai Schirmer rip down very steep backcountry stuff on Crows. Not sure which skis he uses, and yeah he’s a pro, but I doubt he would use skis that couldn’t perform at high speeds.

Have you played around with MNC bindings at all? Recently mounted a set of Solomon Shift MNC 13s on a pair of 2024 Elan Ripstick 106's, wondering what your thoughts are on the platform.

LOL no Lake Placid because you're not familiar with New York skiing, yet you show New York as part of the Northeast.

Adjustable poles are really nice. I only got one pair of poles , and they are some cheap adjustable k2 ones i got for 30 euro (sale) . They came with regular and powder baskets. Where I ski I often end up stuck in some low land, and also just getting to different parts of the hill is so much easier with 110 -145 cm poles. If you land hard on the poles they might get a little shorter, that can be annoying, but also probably better than bending the pole. When the pow is deep you want shorter poles when going down since you sink down with feet, and longer poles when transporting out of that.

Love this debate, as someone who skis on 65mm, I'm all about carving and enjoy skiing on some of those icy steep runs on the east coast.

In regards to EVO used gear - my anecdotal experience is they underrate the equipment. Got my son a pair of used Dalbello boots a few months ago since they were CHEAP. Listed as "USED - Standard Plus" condition. The boots we got were basically brand new, nearly no scuffs on the soles and just minor scuffs on the sides so guessing they were probably display model or something. My son scratched them up more his first time using them.

I'm shorter and lighter than Rickety and I've tested the 176 and 183 QST 98. They ski very short and I preferred the 183. I'm also not nearly as good a skier as Rickety, if that helps.

hi, can i ask for ski recomendation Im beetwen 2 bind adn 2 skies, dynafit rotation 12 vs salomon shift 13 and salomon qst 98 and elan ripstick 96. I want to make 1 ski quiver for skituring mostly focused on downhill that i can take for few days on rest too
