    6” of snow is not a problem with 71mm although the ski submerges as long as you have a little bit of shovel you are truly fine. Powder skis like 105 and up work for 12” and up. Don’t get carried away with all these widths. Just my opinion.

    To me it seems like you are mixing up red and yellow slopes. Red Just have steeper sections than blue but not as steep as black. I don't get what you are saying with 'you are on your own'. Reds are always groomed.

    Nice turns and shots up at Bogus! I demoed the ‘25 AX but found the ‘24 at almost 50% off with the Strive bindings. I loved the ‘25s. They ruined every other ski for me. Hope I’m not disappointed with the ‘24s! Your comments about the updates in the AR (which I think are the same in the AX) make me a bit anxious. But, I don’t think I’m a strong enough skier to notice the difference in the tips and tails to justify passing up on the price difference. Right now, Bogus is getting dumped on … so going to be a little while until I find out!

    I have the 2023 Enforcer 100s and have been riding them pretty hard on the East coast for about a year. I really appreciate your opinions on these. I found some of your descriptions of the ski's mechanics accurate, especially in the case that they are easy to whip back and forth without fully loading the edge. I never took a proper lesson or learned from an instructor so I apologize if my terminology is incorrect. I find the Enforcer 100 particularly useful in moguls and deeper snow. I have found that if you increase that edge angle and pressure by just a little bit in the carve that it bites down really hard and absolutely flung me into the next turn which I wasn't ready for after have upgrading from a really old pair of Blizzard Bushwhackers. Compared to the old skis and boots I was surprised at how little effort I had to put in to dump my speed in a turn. I find them stable at higher speeds in both groomed and variable snow, in fact they rip through deeper, heaver snow with little effort. I find that the time/effort it takes to get that edge pressure applied is a little slower(0.25-0.5sec) but when it does it is powerful. I agree with most of what you are saying however, I guess I like more of the pros than the cons on these skis and find it well suited for almost all trail and weather conditions on the east coast.

    What's also great about these, is if you ever decide to part with them, they seem to hold their value well. I know a slight refresh 24/25, but have bought prior season or two and they hold value so well. I just haven't gotten to the point I wanted to sell!

    So I'm starting to watch videos as I get back into skiing after a 10 year break, my ski buying was on a college budget so I realize I don't know dip sheep from apple butter when it comes to selecting skis.. but Im confused a little, I've skied some really deep powder on thinner skis and it worked good, just lean back and go right? These seem like they would work way better than any ski I ever used in powder.

  • @res_ipsa-REX
    @res_ipsa-REX День назад

    I just demoed the 2025 AR and the AX and I absolutely love the AX. I tried it in the 173 and 178 lengths and enjoyed the 173 more. I only carve at 45 mph or slower so the shorter length was fine. The 178 felt like the tips would get caught sometimes in the chop on a groomed run towards the end of the day. I did get the 173 up to 56 mph and it was stable when making a wide turn onto a cat track. I skied the AR in the 175 length and it was not as easy to ski. It felt like it needed more leg strength to do the same thing as the AX. I am 6’ and 195 lbs. Now I just need to wait for a sale since they are expensive.

    Please keep it up with these type of reviews. It is refreshing to hear an honest perspective that includes both pros and cons and not some re-reading of the companies description of the ski. I have, for the longest time, been on mostly progressively mounted twin-tip skis, but your videos on the Atomic Maverick and Nordica Enforcer (this one) made me more traditional/directional curious. I picked up this newest Nordica Enforcer 99 and in two days it has made me reconsider all the skis I've previously been on (Moment Deathwish 104, Deathwish 112, Wildcat 108, Praxis MVP 108, ON3P Jeffrey 101, Bent 110, etc.). I now see how versatile a ski like this can be -- it has amazing edge grip everywhere from groomers to steep hard pack chutes, is damp and stiff to really bust through crud, and is quite nimble and maneuverable due to the more forward mount paired with the increased tail rocker/splay. I found myself more confident in every situation vs the numerous other skis I mentioned. I was even dropping bigger features and getting more air on side hits with these than some of the more freestyle/freeride skis listed above.

  • @Ceemysix
    @Ceemysix День назад

    IMO you needed to be on a longer ski. Just my opinion. Most manufacturers for some reason chart their ski length too short for some skiers. At your height and weight with your race background should add extra length to that factory recommended length. Hopefully DPS sends you something one size longer.

    People impressed with this should also consider the Intuition wrap liners. I went from tongue liners to wraps at my last boot change, and I find them a significant improvement for shin comfort. The only drawback is that they're more difficult to get into my shells than stock, but that is at least partly due to the newer boot having a very stiff instep area. I have to world cup them to step in & out.

    Wood flexes easily and is relatively soft. Metal doesn't flex as easily. Of course, he is showing a sheet of metal that is 1/100th the thickness of the wood. Now, take that metal and glue a sheet on each side of the wood. It will greatly reduce how much the wood flexes. Think about it like a sausage casing. The meat doesn't resist breakage or flex without the casing. Now the casing on its own, uncooked and without filling, is just a floppy skin. Just like his floppy piece of un-bonded titanal layer.

I am embarrassed to say I still rock ‘em. But will be upgrading next year. I never thought much about what the booster straps were until I used a friends boot with velcrow and I have to say the booster straps are awsome I was lucky all along having them and not knowing what they added until I tried a boot without them.

    Late entry... What about the Mantra 88 vs the Maverick 88Ti? Maverick more forgiving sounds like?

    • @mcleanirish
      @mcleanirish 2 дня назад

      Get the Mantra 88s (aka Kendo 88s). They outperform the Mavericks in almost every way (in my opinion). Skiied the Mavericks and liked them a lot at first, but they are very unforgiving with crud and with backseat. It has a soft shovel and a stiff tail, and it demands perfect skiing in imperfect conditions. More enjoyable in softer snow, but the Kendo is enjoyable in soft snow as well. I needed a stronger ski than the Maverick. Feel like the Kendo is a stronger version of the Maverick - it is sturdier, has a much stronger shovel, and has a higher speed limit. The tradeoff is the Kendo is slightly heavier and not quite as nimble at slow speeds, but honestly, you can manipulate it in most situations and you don't really notice the extra weight (it actually makes the ski much more damp). I also do not find the Kendos to be nearly as unforgiving as the Mavericks. You will grow into the Kendos better, and the more you ski it the more you'll see how much this ski can really do! It is truly an amazing ski

    I love it when a brand reveals a new topsheet for the next year and I prefer the older topsheet so I can happily buy the older one on sale. Or sometimes a brand reveals an updated construction/shape for the upcoming year and I prefer the previous version. The tough part is when the updated version is better and then I have to pay a high price or wait another year. I have been on the forums looking at sneak peaks of 2026 gear and I really don't understand why the industry does this. Why reveal next season's product this season?

    Going to a Bootfitter was probably the single biggest “purchase” that improved my skiing experience. I went to Nick’s Bootfitting near Mt. Snow 2.5 seasons ago because the boots I had (Tecnica Mach 1 LV) were killing my feet and I wanted something I could tour in. Got set up with a pair of Cochise boots 1 mondo size down but with a mid/ normal last. Got some insoles, had a little punch work done, comfort and performance dramatically improved. The lining is starting to pack out, I’ll probably get some Zipfits and use them another few years. Go to a fitter in the offseason, see if they have something on sale, let them work, enjoy your ski life more.

    I replaced my Atomic Hawx strap with the Patriot Footbeds Tru-straps a few years ago. I like them. Anyone else try them?

    For the dad with 90 flex boots- Nick’s Bootfitting near Mount Snow is great.

    Just put on my booster straps. they help a lot. Even if you don't carve they are still nice to really tighten down your boots

    RE: Booster straps. As far as I know Booster's patent has lapsed and other companies are now able to make effectively the same thing. Having both, Tecnica's power strap to me looks exactly like the OG booster strap with the added bonus of having the hook to disconnect the strap.
