Drink water every time I say "Originally" and "Actually" and you will become so hydrated that even Poseidon would be jealous. This video is dedicated to all the players that have stayed with the game for more than a year! I decided to cherry pick some of the most interesting balance changes that are nowadays taken for granted, so maybe someone who started playing now thinks: "No way Demo couldn't shred pallets when he released 💀"
Hey @MintSkull, at 2:40, that haddonfield match against the ada on the car loop. When was this? I played against a doctor on that map with that layout and as that Ada skin.
i think the wraith "bell giveaway" wasnt as impactful, since back in the day, the hooks had a special model for every killer, so u knew what killer it was anyways.
That is true in retrospective, but also the vast majority of the playerbase was new and average so some casual players didnt know this mechanic! In fact, I would have to confirm if this was before Myers release or not, because the hook change was introduced with Haddonfield!
It's cool to look back and see how much everything has changed. It makes me think about what'll happen in the future, and how we could look back and see how everything has changed in the present.
Wraith used to have a different walking animation as well. I remember when it was changed, nobody really liked it, everyone thought he looked so weird with his shoulders up and standing up more straight, but I think it was the right decision, he looks much creepier and more intimidating now.
He used to be a joke now it’s zero fun to go against him the moment he drops outta stealth he moves so fast you can do anything about it your getting hit
@@nickdavid1846 right I guess it’s a skill issue when the attack misses by a half mile and I’m struck despite the fact the dudes looking in the opposite direction
Another thing about no undetectable status effect is that you could see the aura of stealth killers (except myers in tier 1 as he was special). For example, you could see the aura of a cloaked wraith, a crouching pig, etc.
Absolutely true! Which makes the “He got nerfed now spine chill counters him” argument sound so stupid in retrospect. Confirms that no matter what, someone will complain 😂
Fun fact: Before the nerf, the deathslinger was able to fully aim down sights in 0.15 seconds, which i’m pretty sure was 0.05 seconds faster than the sniper from Team fortress 2
Freddy was F tier but had a unique gimmick. And TONS of potential for unique perk builds. Therefore he's 10/10 compared to the bastard lovechild of clown and hag we have now.
Alright I can give you that, OG Freddy was by far the most unique character archetype we ever had and played different to anyone we have had up to this day!
I only started playing this back in July of 2022 and it already feels like so much has changed! It's fun looking at what I've missed and how this game has changed over the years.
I love these kinds of videos, as someone who started to play back in 2021 there are so many Informations, facts etc. that are so interesting to learn about.
Thank you! You are my target demographic for this video, since I want people that play now to look back in the past and see how many changes they take for granted that werent implemented back then!
I still think crow bombs would be a neat Iri addon, without the injury. Consume 3 charges of dire crows to place a crow bomb that when a survivor runs into it, swarms them and sends 3 other dire crows to other survivors last known locations upon contact.
I actually forgot about some of these changes! I've been playing since 2018 and it's amazing to see how far the game has come since then. Personally, I think a good bit of these changes were necessary and have brought the game into a better state. It's crazy to think that some of these were actually in the game years ago.
Damn that makes me nostalgic as hell. Also funny thing about Myers and his 6m terror radius is that even after all these years if you go to his character info in the menu it still says he has it lol.
Now when I think about it, instant shooting with DeathSlinger was pretty busted. I used to main him back in the day's so hearing again about pre nerf Slinger sparked a little smail on my face
I loved this video as it made me remember things I forgot about. Btw if you do a part 2, I hope you put in that Victor couldn't open lockers when the twins first came even though he had an animation in files, meaning that you could go into a locker when Victor was nearby and the player couldn't do anything about it.
Adding that made the Twins pretty unique. If they gave a damn about the Twins, they could do a lot of fun things with their gameplay. Unfortunately they've just been shelved in Buggy Hell.
There's a reason why they made deathslinger aim down sight slow. Because back in the day when deathslinger was chasing you he would just spam m2 faking taking a shot and making you slow yourself down. So basically outplaying you buy doing nothing
16:03 I'm pretty sure I know the exact reason why the Lament Configuration icon was changed. On the PTB the survivor holding the box wasn't affected by chains, so when they picked it up the chain hunt stopped progressing. Players noticed that they could use just do like with Victor on the PTB and take the box "hostage," so the devs made the chain hunt continue to build up and eventually affect the survivor holding the box. Because of this, they had to change the HUD icon so you could tell the chain hunt progression just like you can with the circular chains icon when no one has the box.
Yall remember red skill check ruin? We’re gonna live forever was named “just a scratch”? Hatch standoff? Vacuums? Shack had 2 windows? Chain saw myers? 2 vaults at cow tree? Old undying? Old tinkerer? 80% speed self care? No hook mori’s?
Main thing is of brought up about Oni was the fact that he used to be able to do full 180 degree turns in his dash making absolutely no object or loop safe against him. This was then heavily overnerfed because it’s BHVR so he could barely turn at all and then it was put into a middle ground which is where he is now.
Btw, when The Twins was released on live servers, devs had no time to add a Victor interaction with locker, so if a survivor was in a locker, Victor could just pounce on locker were survivor was, and either pounce on survivor or down him. This was REALLY BUSTED back then, ngl
Know all of these.. But to add about Freddy, the only part of his original kit that made him F tier was the 7 second ( with no addons ) that you had to wait to put them to sleep in order to hit them. ( With addons, you could reduce it to 4 seconds. ) Something also to mention.. Being light burned as Wraith back then ( release ) was PAIN. The time it used up was extremely long. Something that ended up getting shortened but still felt long to me.. Side note, a unintentional buff at one point for Enduring. At one point during one of the buffs to Enduring ( something that was nerfed later ) that it not only at one time worked on DS. It also worked for being light burned as Wraith. Also, Unrelenting used to be something like 3% or so recovery from attacks. I can not remember right now for sure but at one point it was both hit, and missed attacks. ( Bit they where different in percentages ) Then later it was buffed.. Something that lead to the Machinegun build as it would be combined with STBFL that also worked differently back then. There is another machinegun build but it was specific to Huntress and it was addon based. Oh and, can not remember if it was PTB or if it made it live, but with the Hag, at one point she had insane recovery speed compared to other killers at base.. But to note, this was for sure a bug, not intended.
I mained Freddy before his rework, and I heavily disagree with the sentiment that he was F tier. People just didn’t know how to play him. He was pretty decent if you were playing with the 4v1 in mind, because you got permanent aura reads on sleeping survivors and their action speeds were painfully slow, forcing them to wake up via failed skill checks or other survivors. It was more beneficial to sleep as many survivors as possible, and in doing so I consistently did well as Freddy. Then sadly 2019 rolled around and he became the most boring Killer in the game. RIP old Freddy, you were decent and very fun.
Actually the ability to crouch over Hag's traps was added, because she received a massive buff in that patch so that she could move right after teleporting. Before this update you could only move or attack after like 2 seconds.
Another interesting thing about Nurse that’s often overlooked is that her blink attacks used to have completely accurate auto-aim. I think this was removed sometime in 2018 though.
To be honest, I think while old Freddy might be lower tier now, I think he was fine. Definitely not the worst killer at the time, as many were abysmal. A lot of people also forget he was stronger in his original PTB (which ironically I think was the best version of him).
I was a Freddy main before the change I loved the ninja Freddy build that make you have 0 TR when not chasing someone and there was a moment there where you could have a permanent 0 TR when furtive first came out.
another fun fact is that originally Oni and Demogorgon had different chasing themes depending on if you were playing the killer or survivor. They only kept the survivor POV chase themes and it's kinda sad, the Oni's one was a banger
I remember most about halfway through the video, since I didn't play from the very beginning, but I watched people who did! I remember the hubbub about Spirit's collision in particular. I main her now, but I try to avoid the MD Ring/Cherry Blossom add-ons unless I have a particular build I wanna try. Her add-ons in general are all pretty good, except for maybe the brown Zori and the niche-use Senko Hanabi. Twins, Plague and Trickster are all good examples of the devs doing a dumb-dumb for not realizing how they programmed their Killers made it easy for Survivors to screw them by using power exploits.
I remember playing trickster before they buffed/nerfed him. He felt pretty good to play in the beginning even if you had to hit survivors 8 times but at least you wouldn't need to go to lockers as often, wasting precious time.
I have a feeling I know why Billy has an overheat. It's commonly known that the Leatherface chapter was rushed and was poorly implemented on launch to an extent where even his addons were the same as Billys. I think they used the same basic code to implement his chainsaw with a few modifications to match Leatherfaces playstyle. When Bubba was reworked, they needed to change this base implementation however couldn't do it without impacting Billy. Hence the addition of the overheat mechanic in the same exact patch. Might need a tin-foil hat but to me it makes sense.
Technically Huntress has a special terror radius too (of 20 meters) with the lullaby going up to 45 meters, it makes sense why the Pig was nerfed as she was normal speed when standing up meaning the smaller terror radius had no sense
I'm still wanting Nemesis to be able to damage generators with tentacle at teir 3. Maybe it would work like Knight's guards. I mean, Nemmy already can break pallets, so why not?
5:00 I'm not sure if this was included in your other video, but another fun fact about doctor is that his old ability was either shock or punishment, not both simultaneously. Therefore, you could camp a survivor with shock as your power and spam left click. This would mean if anyone tried to grab a survivor off the hook, they themselves would get grabbed for unhooking. There was no cooldown or swinging animation for the doctor, so this was uncounterable.
I play DbD since 2016 with some shorter and longer breaks and I'm really impressed by how much it grew and improved, that game was an absolute shitshow back in a day. Looking back at it, I'm really amazed that it didn't just die in a few months after release.
As an ex freddy main. I feel like his old power could have worked if they gave to it constant aura reading during chases rather than only outside of chase, that way he had actual anti loop and a reason why he couldn't instantly strike a survivor. Man... I miss old freddy =( Also, about the clown one where he used to be slowed down by his power and you said that also freddy and skull merchant shouldn't have the slowdown. Skull merchant yeah its arguable, but freddy USED to move at his normal speed while placing snares but it was removed and made him move at 4.0 instead because many complained "he was op"
Great video as always. I started playing DbD when Freddy was released (because Im a Freddy´s fanboy) and I mained Freddy! I did not care that everyone thought his power was weak. I learned to use it effectively and had great matches most of the time. Remember that when survivor were sleeped they would have a speed penalty of 50%!!!! on all interactions! Survivors were BEGGING for me to sacrifice them. It was so funny!
Holy shit that artist change, I didn't know they changed that into live release so I've actually been playing against her this whole time thinking the idle crow would damage me if I ran into with a swarm on me
I misread that final change, and thought you meant Artist used to affect people with the anti-AFK Crows circling them. I always thought that would be neat! Or at least SOME way to let Artist interact with the Crows from the realms, but I guess not qwq Good vid
Brand new part being able to instantly repair a gen, we'll make healing speed being op, hooks didn't respawn when broken by saboteur or a toolbox, noed not being a hex perk, instant blinds and the list goes on. What beautiful and horrible memories
As I was watching this video I was like: "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, I remember these things like they were changed yesterday" and then you mentioned the Doc change and I remember exactly when that happened because I was a doc main before they got rid of treatment mode. Good times
@@MintSkull well i know 9 and 2 of them from you so what does it make me? A psychopath?.... A Twins main?.... A Pinhead main?..... Cause it means the same
I don’t know why but I always remembered that 4.4 m/s killers such as hag and huntress used to not have a full lunge like trapper or wraith, they got buffed during I think spirits mid chapter to fix this to make all killers have the same lunge
I feel a very important fact to remember that nobody else seems to mention is that way back in they day, you could ONLY unhook survivors from the front. So if a killer just stood in front of a survivor, there was little to no chance of them being unhooked.
Heres one about oni i remember. In the PTB, oni during blood fury litrerally breaked pallets faster than BS and Fire up max stacks. It was stupidly fast. And i remember BHVR nerfed his flick attacks and nobody liked that and thank god they revrted that.
Back then it was anything that made the survivors mad got taken away unless it was the hillbilly cannibal cash grab Nerf purchase but now it's anything that makes us killers mad is usually changed
Playd since beta, stopped for a long while after the release of clown, and been coming back to the game frequetly.. I can never stick to the game for long but i managed to rack up 1000 hours and legacy for Meg as i playd a shitton back in 2016, nice to watch these types of videos and know all the old stuff, and see what happend with the new stuff!
I think another fun addon change for demo was rat liver. Literally the day they announced it was being nerfed because it was overpicked. There was so much backlash they announced a middle ground (raising his natural movement speed while shredding) and lowering the addon to compensate. I think this was the quickest announcement of a change for a killer. Speaks how fast people can get something changed for a killer. Demo mains weren't really vocal but they were then.
Damn, I feel old. I literally know all of these because I have been through it. I still have the moonlight add ons in my account. Stacking 4 moonlight add ons to make it pitch black. You couldn't even see the claudettes crouching right infront of you.
11:01 They should of kept it in the game, it was nerfed because survivors didn't like that they could be outplayed at loops with it. It was his strength to counter act the fact that he had no map pressure.
@@randymarsh4748 it could definetly be outplayed, so you telling me that if you get a good huntress and you can my dodge her shots you want her nerfed because YOU can't outplay or react fast enough against her? That's basically what happened to slinger. Again he has zero map pressure, but was good at a 1v1, now he's neither because of the crying.
@@XenoVT nah it was just to easy because u can instantly snap onto a survivor, now it requires a bit of skill. Hitting huntress shot especially on mid range is much harder than hittig one shot with slinger... shit was easier than call of duty and anyway how can u react to something that instant? u could try to read the killer and predict but react naaah
In the clown's case, you literally gained no distance when using his bottle before ( as in, the slow down your bottle caused on the survivor was negated by the fact you slowed down as well)
I've heard things about old Freddy but I still don't know how he used to work back then, what was forever Freddy and such, so I would love a video talking about him!
basically you had to pull survivors into the dream world which was incredibly unique once targeted a special animation would play of said survivor being pulled an they would see you sora fade in and out usually you got free hits this way also you could see any survivor aura permanently as long as you were you were in the dream world survivors also suffered a 50% action penalty but since self care was strong back then basically you’d hit a survivor an they’d start healing to get a skill check an since the process wasn’t fast it was be non stop of you putting them sleep an them waking up
@@christianftt3136 Oh I see, well Freddy's power nowadays isn't too good anyways, would be cool if he gets a rework (with another mori and Robert Englund's model hopefully)
Honestly an unrelated thing that surprised me still is that BHVR has NOT changed the Trickster UI when you are hit by a knife, it still shows 8 cuts so it really messes with me, it's strange that they still haven't reworked the UI to match 6 cuts instead of 8
Mint!!you missed one!! remember when survivors could easily avoid Victor by jumping in a locker before they added his ability to hold the locker shut for a short time!!!!
Executioner needs another change to his power where he is required to send a Survivor to a cage in order to perform a final judgement on that Survivor. Make the killer unable to skip parts of their power. Imagine if Clown could just slow you down without throwing a bottle.
nah hes not skipping anything.... getting the survivor tormented is what the killer has to do dor the mori so ur example with the clown bottle is bad. basically the Mori is just a replacement for the cage since a Mori is cooler than a dead on hook survivor going to a cage and dying instantly
Are you still down to cover Freddy's old power and subsequent redesign or are you waiting for them to rework him first so that you can cover 4 eras of his changes?

looking back from late 2017 (when i started) to now is honestly crazy. and yes i remember about 95% of these changes WEOW.
As an ex freddy main. I feel like his old power could have worked if they gave to it constant aura reading during chases rather than only outside of chase, that way he had actual anti loop and a reason why he couldn't instantly strike a survivor.
Man... I miss old freddy =(
Also, about the clown one where he used to be slowed down by his power and you said that also freddy and skull merchant shouldn't have the slowdown.
Skull merchant yeah its arguable, but freddy USED to move at his normal speed while placing snares but it was removed and made him move at 4.0 instead because many complained "he was op"
I started play dbd in 2019 just after plague came out so I knew most of these but I some of them surprised me. Thank you for sharing this knowledge
The community will never forget the old Legion...
Moonwalking legion strats 😂
Thinking back on all these old things makes me feel that nostalgia again hahaha
Great video as always. I started playing DbD when Freddy was released (because Im a Freddy´s fanboy) and I mained Freddy! I did not care that everyone thought his power was weak. I learned to use it effectively and had great matches most of the time.
Remember that when survivor were sleeped they would have a speed penalty of 50%!!!! on all interactions! Survivors were BEGGING for me to sacrifice them. It was so funny!
Goddd you are taking me down memory lane rn Mint
I’m glad the video worked! I wanted to share that experience to veterans and even new players 😄
wow this really takes me back XD
Small thing, but I love the use of MK8D's Waluigi Stadium for the music, while showing how much something has changed.
Holy shit that artist change, I didn't know they changed that into live release so I've actually been playing against her this whole time thinking the idle crow would damage me if I ran into with a swarm on me
6:00 Holy hell the amount of pallets
Would love a comprehensive old freddy video from you, really enjoyed the way you covered Doctor.
I misread that final change, and thought you meant Artist used to affect people with the anti-AFK Crows circling them. I always thought that would be neat! Or at least SOME way to let Artist interact with the Crows from the realms, but I guess not qwq
Good vid
That Lament UI looked clean af, the way it span as the actual box does
Brand new part being able to instantly repair a gen, we'll make healing speed being op, hooks didn't respawn when broken by saboteur or a toolbox, noed not being a hex perk, instant blinds and the list goes on. What beautiful and horrible memories
As I was watching this video I was like: "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, I remember these things like they were changed yesterday"
and then you mentioned the Doc change and I remember exactly when that happened because I was a doc main before they got rid of treatment mode. Good times
And still people complain and say dbd back then was better, it was not lol
Come on man i played this game since October of 2018 and not even that much, how should i know what changes were made at the strone age
Same
Only certified old heads remember all of these extremely niche changes!
17:33 Thanks!
Heres one about oni i remember. In the PTB, oni during blood fury litrerally breaked pallets faster than BS and Fire up max stacks. It was stupidly fast. And i remember BHVR nerfed his flick attacks and nobody liked that and thank god they revrted that.
I havent played in a while, this is actually how I learned the Huntress' Lulluby was no longer directional.
I'm not veteran but I find thoese really interesting. Nice video man
This man forgot how Blight was actually a chad goblin on release.
Best was using Prayer Beads with Spirit and the ''Machine Guntress'' Build (Tinkerer and both wind up addons).. Good old times :D
16:03 soul
16:13 soulless
Killer shack used to have 2 windows way back when, and survivors at the time could fast vault infinitely on any window.
As someone who’s only played for 2 years I found some of these facts WILD
I swear i didn't even know about Artist change and i still believed touching idle crow would damage me until i watched this video.
It was his strength to counter act the fact that he had no map pressure.
its not called outplaying when the other side cant react to it or outplay it themselves
Hitting huntress shot especially on mid range is much harder than hittig one shot with slinger... shit was easier than call of duty
and anyway how can u react to something that instant? u could try to read the killer and predict but react naaah
I remember everything except of spirit's collision while phasing and pinhead different hud.
i still find it hard to believe i both mained and did pretty well with pre-rework freddy
Those times where Victor couldn't search lockers and EVERY survivor just jumped into one while being chased by him. #NotLikeThis
In the clown's case, you literally gained no distance when using his bottle before ( as in, the slow down your bottle caused on the survivor was negated by the fact you slowed down as well)
Gosh I remember when demo couldn't shred pallets and it was an ultra rare addon
I've heard things about old Freddy but I still don't know how he used to work back then, what was forever Freddy and such, so I would love a video talking about him!
basically you had to pull survivors into the dream world which was incredibly unique once targeted a special animation would play of said survivor being pulled an they would see you sora fade in and out usually you got free hits this way also you could see any survivor aura permanently as long as you were you were in the dream world survivors also suffered a 50% action penalty but since self care was strong back then basically you’d hit a survivor an they’d start healing to get a skill check an since the process wasn’t fast it was be non stop of you putting them sleep an them waking up
@@christianftt3136 It sounds like a very interesting game mechanic, and that Freddy sounds pretty powerful. Why would he be at the lowest tier?
@@elpabloeshue well mostly because he couldn’t end chase at all like i said all you had to do was leave the dream world and his power was useless
@@christianftt3136 Oh I see, well Freddy's power nowadays isn't too good anyways, would be cool if he gets a rework (with another mori and Robert Englund's model hopefully)
Honestly an unrelated thing that surprised me still is that BHVR has NOT changed the Trickster UI when you are hit by a knife, it still shows 8 cuts so it really messes with me, it's strange that they still haven't reworked the UI to match 6 cuts instead of 8
I played during this time but I didn’t pay enough attention to remember these, I only remember Freddy’s old power.
another W video from MintSkull
Mint!!you missed one!! remember when survivors could easily avoid Victor by jumping in a locker before they added his ability to hold the locker shut for a short time!!!!
This felt less like a facts video and more like an evidence file on bhvr's incompetence. Either way, I enjoyed the video.
15:51 i liked square icon more
They could fix Victor hostage situations by simply making him down the surivor if he's on them for too long
That's so sus 1:10. She literally used it exactly as you hit m1
Cool videos, the only thing that disturbs me during watch, is when the killer on the screen does not correspond to the killer you talk about.
I don't know why they changed the lament configuration HUD I think it looks way cooler with it looking like the box itself
Sorry I'm late, another good vid as always
You still can't recall Victor on mobile as far as I remember.
