    I'm doing this now in a very small 1/2 bath. I'm an experienced Handyman - Homeowner. The place was built in 1986. I have faced almost every problem. 1. Wallpaper on the walls 2. The Old shut off valves leak 2. The floor is not level. 3. The Wall is not plumb 4. The wall is curved. 5. finding studs is not always straightforward, especially with plumbing in the wall. 6. The sink base and sink do not line up so that the flat surfaces provide a good gluing/caulking area. This video provides some basic knowledge but there are better ones out there. Give your project a try but be aware that you will likely face a few obstacles that might require you to watch a few more DIY videos or even make you think "I should have hired a professional." If you take your time you will get it done.

      How did u solve the unleveled floor issue? Also, have you ever run into the issue where the piping and drain come in through the floor as apposed to through the wall?

    • @joelcummings8677
      @joelcummings8677 3 года назад +2

      @@rmggng the bath is so small that I just did my best to keep the tile lined up where it is visible. I can't say I am 100 percent happy with the job. The floor should have been floated to level it out first. But I am not experienced at that and didn't want to deal with the toilet flange being below the floor. I have not delt with plumbing coming out of the floor.

    I just use a black marker/paint (something along those lines) on the pipe and push the vanity to the pipes and it marks the pipe locations on the back of the vanity. No measuring pipe location and transferring those measurements to the vanity. I found my method to be very easy.

      😂😂😂 Its a parody. They were not serious. It was meant to be a joke. In car mechanics, to change a wheel bearing they charge $450 parts and labor. It is only a $60 part and you only have to unscrew 15 bolts. In reality a beginner it would take them 8 hours to change a wheel bearing if they are lucky. However, go on RUclips and watch a 15 minute video of how to change a wheel bearing. Do you see where I am going with this?

    Do not rush. Allocate plenty of time. Expect the worst and “ measure twice before any cut / drill/ hole”…
    Good luck

      +tga2848 I noticed that and it bothered me too. However, as Lowe's described in their response, this was one of their better problem-solving solutions without having to re-plumb the bathroom. To Lowe's, you've turned a *scary* project into something that looks fun, managable and is certainly less-threatening to attempt. Honestly I can't wait now to get started on my first of three bathroom projects. I think the hard part now will be designing the bathroom and picking colors and a vanity. (That's a switch!) I feel equipped! Thanks, Lowes!

      +Steve Stanley For what it's worth; I learned something regarding the the typical vanity that's purchased as a complete unit. They're fine butted against a back wall but if you're going to put them in the corner (like the above video) check your wall for square. I found that my wall, from the corner, out 22 inches, there was a gap of nearly a half inch. It's a problem trying to hide that because you can't shave the top to fit and you can't fill the gap with calk. If I'd known this beforehand, I'd have picked a top that came with a matching corner filler strip. I've decided to move my vanity away from the offending wall, which means space is wasted.

    • @Stanleyart
      @Stanleyart 9 лет назад +1

      After inspecting my bathroom, it appears I'm in the same boat. An uneven, un-squared wall with a square vanity top that was shoved in place and a rather large amount of chalking used to compensate the gap. Whoa, never noticed that before. But, thank you for taking the time out to share this with me! I really do appreciate it. You certainly saved me extra work and I can adjust my bathroom design much easier! Again, thank you and much respect!

    I wen to to Lowe's yesterday to get a bathroom vanity to take advantage of their bath savings event. Most of the vanity sinks were made out of a painted material they call "cultured marble". It's a bad quality material that doesn't last. You have to be very careful, because it looks solid, but when you tap on it you can tell it's either plywood or plastic. I had to go somewhere else to get a vanity with a porcelain top.

      GFCI protected outlets can be installed this close..and the protection need not be at this outlet: this outlet can be fed by another that has the test/reset buttons (ie the actual GFCI outlet). While we are on this topic, verifying proper protection with the correct features of a GFCI is also required: you want a GFCI that when it has reached its end of life, that it permanently trips, regardless of grounding (ie an older home with open ground two-prong outlets).

      This is not hard stuff agreed, however one might save money by hiring someone if they don't have a drill and some hole saws, proper tools etc.. and general knowledge about how to use them. factor in the inevitable multiple trips to the hardware store and an inexperienced person might have saved some time and money by just hiring a professional.

    this is so wrong - use a base cabinet in a corner - no furniture styles - the tiny gap between sink cabinet and wall is not acceptable

  • @electricbadgercollc8146
    @electricbadgercollc8146 3 года назад

    And what do you do when your vanity top does not sit flush with the wall(s) or the vanity cabinet. If you've done any home remodeling, you will know almost nothing goes this smoothly. The devil is in the details. What do you do when things don't line up. This video does not address any of the most common problems when installing a vanity sink, and therefore is really useless.

    This is what you get when you hire actors instead of professionals. Faucet in front of an outlet and sink sticking out into window. My Pro Tip: When installing a sink cabinet combo like this, go easier on the pancake makeup and scary eye-brow trims.
