Just as a learning moment. Generally many people are considered legally blind still have vision, even those that need a guide dog. They can have blurry vision, great centers of vision bad peripherals, or good peripherals and bad centers. There are many ways someone's sight can cause disability.
Yeah. But I kind of agree with the dog. Look how she banged into the other pole. If she knows where one pole is, she should be able to avoid the other pole as well, if she's paying attention. Elton was essentially orienting her in space.
@@jenniferhansesI agree. She DIDN'T make it through "unharmed" so to speak she definitely was right. He definitely earned his treat by trying to keep her safe
some people here don't get the point of a guide dog, he's not a pet dog in this moment, he's a working dog with a specific job. Encouraging wrong behavior can be dangerous.
But he's not doing bad behavior. He's making barriers and obstacles aware to her. She's punishing him for doing exactly what he was taught to do God talk about mixed signals
Reminds me of that story of the dog who got a beefsteak for rescuing a child who fell in the Seine, so he kept rescuing children…except this time he was pushing them into the water to rescue them and get rewarded.
A former manager was telling us at work one day, how each Newfoundland dog she had had, all did the same thing “accidentally on purpose”, knock her nieces and nephews, and eventually great nieces & nephews into the lake and then rescue them. 🤣 Then they’d expect a treat.
@@sandrarekker585 as a regular dog he should but as a guide dog it could be dangerous or annoying because he would do it more often to get treats and she don't want to stop so many times 💁🏼♀️
Omg my service dog does stuff like that. He’s always trying to predict what I’m going to do. He’s right most of the time, but sometimes I want to do something different, and then he insists that we have to do what I always do so he can get a reward. Nope, he doesn’t get a reward, but it doesn’t stop him from trying anyway, lol. 😂😂😂
My service dog in training acts the same way oh my God like don’t get me wrong she loves working, but she expects to get paid for everything she does and She’ll do tasks even if I didn’t ask for it it’s like she’s saying to me look I did something good now give me food. It’s so funny.
They're little scammers! Taught my dog to untangle himself when his leash wraps around a tree, now he goes to them, wraps his leash around and looks at me waiting for the signal to untangle himself😅
I love that guide dogs each have their own personality and aren't "robots" that do the thing they were trained for. I'm glad the handler learns their own dog's special personality and quirks and adjusts their own thinking to it. Dog's are so special.
i always love how guide dogs tails tend to fall preferentially behind their handlers as if in a protective curl it’s so cute and elton’s tail is the best for this
It is cute, but there's a (good) reason: Tail wagging to the right is the dog showing confidence or happiness, whereas a left wag is more indicative of them being frightened. So Elton is definitely happy being with Molly!
😂 oh Elton, he is such an amazing dog with great sense of humour and I must admit…he really is smart 😅 I love him for that and I wish I knew him in real life! Please give him a nice treat on my behalf ❤
My service dog has a warm heart for babies…. If one is around… she’ll give me a look, lower her tail with a very little flick- to remind me of how great she is with them. Her first baby interaction is when i was reassured she’d be my second service dog.
I tried to take you the pole way, but nooooo. You didn't believe the pole was important and got your hand whacked. You should listen next time. - Elton, probably.

YOUR HONOR, here is the video. As you can see, Elton is clearly the goodest boi and deserves much treatos, and he was DENIED after finding the elusive pole. We are asking for the maximum punishment.
It's a bollard, they are a type of pole to keep traffic from hurting pedestrians. If you ever some to Geelong, Victoria, Australia, there are a whole bunch of wooden painted bollards around the beach that are all shaped like people. From beach goers to old timey dressed ones. Even going into the gardens. It's a lovely walk. As long as Elton doesn't decide that he wants to jump in for a swim at points. (My mother in laws dog reallly looked like he wanted to do that last time we took him there!)
I just wanna say the Elton and my service dog in training have the exact same personality she’s definitely different than my previous dog in the same way that elton is different to your previous dogs my previous dogs just worked for me because they absolutely love working for me 100,000% and they don’t really want to treat this girl loves working with me about the same but she wants treat for everything she does she’s not a guide dog, but she definitely will do the same thing where she’ll do a task just to receive a treat not because I asked her to sometimes and it’s really funny her name is Leia and she’s my sassy little girl
I have the same bubble gum pink crocs! (But I wear two different colored ones at all times. I have pink, yellow, green, grey, purple, black, blue, orange.... I need to buy more...) Elton should always get a treat and a nose boop.
The short pole looks to be a folding version so maintenance vehicles can pass. The taller one is removable. They can both change and become entirely different hazards causing trips and falls. I don’t understand guide dog training, but it would seem that he has shown you something that will be a surprise concern at some point.
Speaking about accidentally hitting your hand off of a pole I was putting a rug back at work and it slipped and somehow I gave myself rug burn on the back of my hand
Maybe this is a typical guide dog thing? My guide dog guided me over a public place with a long rain gap in the middle of it. My guide dog showed the rain gap to me, I praised her and stepped over it and we continued our walk. A few meters later, my dog went back to the rain gap and stopped, I praised her and stepped over it. Than my dog showed me the rain gap again and again. After we stepped over the rain gap about 30 times, a man asked me, why we stepped so often over that rain gap and I answered, that this is necessary because of obstacels over all. The man said, there is no one obstacle over all. So my dog showed me the rain gap so often to get praised every time. I had it a few times, that my dog changed the street side, because this side is more difficult and she can be praised more times. When I sai to my dog, she sould go to the train station, my dog allways choose the more difficult way.
I am one with this animal. We just want to be appreciated for doing our jobs well. Affection and approval is all we really need, but a bikkie might be nice, too, once in a while, lol 🤗

That would mess up his training, its reinforcing unwanted behaviour
That will mess with his perception of what his job is. Think critically, Susan.
